Never felt bad for the environment when watching roadkill till this episode
It takes about 6 1/2 years for my truck to burn as much oil as they did in 2 days.
Completely agree. The SBC and engine knowledge between those two - yet they drove it as a smoke show and for what... Is this the content that gets people to go beyond the pay-wall for full episodes? Weird.
China is the real environment problem anyway
@Blackie BMW Motorwerks and what about Greta... So you tell me
@@Mike.hobbies China is ONE environmental problem...the US is, also.
I am almost disappointed that they didn't just buy a barrel of 15w-40 from tractor supply, and roll down the highway with the barrel in the bed.
Or just run a hose from the valve cover hole into the cab so they could just keep pouring while driving.
@@N-Lee That's what the original Cannonball Run van crew did. They stopped in the next town from where I live and bought all of the tranny fluid they had in stock. He was pouring it in as they drove coast to coast.
No smoking that bad it needs straight 40 weight
...with a direct feed from the barrel to the motor! It'd save a lot of time...😁
Heck missing the roadkill episodes so much, I get they don't wanna put it all on CZcams but sucks there's still no way to watch the full episodes outside of the US

@@richardsamuelgustavo oh, my bad.
Man, how did you guys pass up that perfect opportunity to test out the latest and greatest in engine sealing snake-oil?
I can relate. One time in my early 20’s I got a ticket for excessive smoke. Little S10. Also no insurance and an invalid license. Cop let me go but said I couldn’t drive. Passed him about 15 minutes later and got the same ticket in the mail about 2 weeks later. Lol. Glad those days are behind me.
you do know this is all bs why would anyone watch this garbage
@@avgeek1930 so salty
I used to have a diesel truck like that - I think it was running more on oil than on diesel. Had to refill the crankcase more often than the tank. I sold for $600 to a farmer years ago, and I think he is still using it as is.
Why wouldn't they put some Lucas or some other oil additive to slow down the oil consumption?!?! Because Roadkill...😆
A quick stop somewhere to swap in a fresher small block would be cheaper.
exactly, they did it with the Elky in Summit's parking lot.
Smoke? What smoke? In the 70s, nobody would have noticed.
This is such a bummer of an episode but well done to the production & edit crew for honoring Mike's dad.
It was a good episode but had a unfortunate ending.
Yea I was gonna say that clearly needs an exhaust clamp. Good call, state patrol. I miss this show a lot, too bad it's only in an app now. Won't ever happen, nice try, MT.
At this point I would’ve used smokeless 2 stroke oil with some Lucas lol!
The oil changes itself!
Reminds me of a Pacer a friend drove years ago, couldn't say what year. He had a funnel on the dash with a hose running to the valve cover. Passenger's job was to dump in a quart every 5 miles or so..
Lol!
I think that is how the old Indy cars did it right? They had a mechanic ride with the driver to do things like that.
My “first car “ was a ‘74 Hilux, same blue color as under the hood of this one. Seeing this brings back memories ✌️
I had a Firebird that burnt oil that bad.I ended up putting gear oil in the crank case, that worked pretty good.😂😂👍👍
I had a Lincoln MKVII with the 5.0 motor that started using oil (nowhere near that bad though) and I switched to 20-50 which was like molasses and it cured the oil consumption problem. 😂 😂
Unfortunately I can’t watch thiss anymore in Australia 😭thanks motor trend
That was so cool that you can see the air slip stream off the tailgate and the roof of the truck. NASCAR could learn some stuff by putting smokey motors in their cars!
I bought a brand new 1975 Toyota Hilux SR5 Longbed when I was 18 years old back in '75. Loved that truck. seeing that body style brought back memories!
Just like the smokin' 305 I had to pull from a 71 Chevelle last summer. Lady plays the blues...
That truck is in desperate need of a 4 link or a IRS
Wow roadkill on youtube for the whole world to see this must be a dream
Should have put five quarts of Lucas oil in it and call it good!
And a block heater to start it
It's a testament to the SBC. Runs fine with no rings.
It's a small block Chevy not that hard to make it run good
Yup if it was a ford motor theyd just give up.
@@getchasome6230 not at all but ok bub
@@thatmaverickguy859 You're technically right because the show IS about driving unreliable cars until they break.
@@getchasome6230 and it burned 4 quarts per mile
@@thatmaverickguy859 Yup, some annoying smoke was the worst of their issues with the chevy motor. You cant beat em
had a 77 toyota truck long bed like that one bulletproof with its original drive train that hobbled thing is sad to see
I can relate to this a bit . I was pulling a trailer in my old caprice up a LONG LONG hill, saw a bunch of smoke, didint care. If the rings let loose oh well . Now I can’t see the traffic behind me. I pulled over. I blew a seal,it leaked all over and caught on fire. It burned to the ground it took 20 minutes for the fire department to arrive. We had gotten the trailer disconnected and pushed it back . They had to carry it away, nothing left.
do they still make stp . it worked great on my friends oil burning vega
You guys should put a 302 engine and trans from a late 90s explorer & do all summit bolt ons
That's custom, you can't get that on any truck.
Awesome quote, Finnegan
Freiburger is not in shorts and sandals. This must not be the authentic Roadkill.
Need to make Your Motortrend app accessible to us in Australia 😤
Good one boy's, but my old VW diesel had you beat by a mile it smoked so bad all the cars behind will hit the shoulder or hit the brakes hard total blue cloud every time you start it and had to be juiced ! Even more exciting was when it did start smoking it went wide open on its own on the freeway it wind up to about 85 blowins 85 blowing such a cloud and throttle was stuck wide open because it cranked case began to recycle it would lose about a quart or 2 in that episode and no kidding I was afraid people would wreck behind me cause there was 0 visibility !!
It would slow down only after it sucked up a bunch of oil and then I suppose you could turn the key off and hopefully that would shut it down but as I recall there was no way to shut it down until it blew through the oil... I discovered all this on a trip to Canada and guess what we made it back home as well I discovered all this on a trip to Canada and guess what we made it back home as well...
Good old smog, makes me homesick for the 70's!
Love little trucks, had an 87 S10 with a 327ci and TH350 it was so much fun.
My buddy and I drove a 1970 IH Scout from MN to CA about 15 years ago, it burned a quart of oil every 50 miles or so. We quit checking, just pulled over and added it with the engine running. The entire back area was full of empty oil cans when we got home.
had n old chevy with a straight six that had broken rings, it burned oil at about 50:1.... had to stop every so often to fill up the oil and check the gas level..
And now I know why you guys bought the 3rd gen the night before
Can I get some ROADKILL DECALS from you guys for my semi truck?
It completely sucks that ppl outside of US can’t get full episodes anymore.
I’m really disappointed that they don’t putt full episodes on here anymore and this is all we get
Cant even watch a 10 minute clip without 5 Commercials 🤦🏻♀️
It is sooo sad that i cant have motortrend on demand in austria 😭😭😭
Ha ha i was genuinely surprised they just kept running it, I thought for sure they'd pull half the engine apart in a carpark somewhere and fix the leak 🐨
Yeah, same. If I had an engine that burned that much oil I would’ve just plummed a bottle of oil to the crankcase breather valve to feed it oil from inside the cab.
Abt a quart for every mile or just fill a tank w oil, & feed it to the motor. Or just yank the motor, & drop in a junkyard 5.3.
@@michaelbenoit248 ha ha, you should be on the roadkill team 🤯
Kinda funny I once did a Ny to FL run in my turbo B20 Integra and it literally burned all the oil like every 100 miles. Fault to the turbo tho. Switched back to all motor in FL and drive back to NY no issues. Sold the motor to a friend and then it was introduced to a turbo again. Made great power and lasted for a few more years until gaskets went bad. Beast of a motor lasted even more years after gasket replacements and my down country burning every last drip of oil lol kinda says something about Honda motors tbh Honda ftw
Too bad i cant watch the episodes from my country 😑
Shades of a series of $100 beater 1960's Chevy V-8's and a Plymouth slant 6 I had in college and just after (total of about 3 years). Every 100 miles or so, put in $5.00 gas (about 9 gallons) and 2 quarts of supermarket brand non-detergent $1.29/gallon oil. I recall both Chevys only had 7 working cylinders in their last months. All 3 ended up local junkyards after I got done with them.
I had an 84 Nissan/datsun pickup that smoked so bad I put empty quart bottle on pcv to dump back in motor. Could see the Tappanzee bridge when I drove over it. Lmfao but made it 3hrs home
Yeah id love to sign up! UNFORTUNATELY CONTENT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA
Should have left the original Toyota engine in it!
small block Chevy is where it's its at I got a block from 72 its sweet
Cool story
meh the sbc/ ls stuff is about as interesting as an EV...
I haven’t watched roadkill in so long I miss you guys come back to CZcams 🤧
Best day at work ever
God, you guys are living my dream!
I’ve always wanted to take a beater on a road trip just to see if we make it to our destination, and what it takes to keep it going when (or if) it breaks down.
Lookit all that room under the hood! I wonder if my Dodge 383 would fit? 😂
Yes with a Dakota bellhousing
@@rustedratchetgarage6788 Huh? Dakota's never came with big blocks. And the SB bolt pattern is different.
Best Day at work ever )))))
THAT WAS CRIMINAL!
Cool truck man I hope you fix this one
Hard not to conclude that it was better with a Toyota engine.
Anybody got a spare Lexus Ls400 engine/transmission available?
I can't stand when they put a Chevy motor on a Toyota
I mean you want a seized engine and no movement or slow movement with oil smoke
The old Toyota 4 bangers blow smoke like this in their old age too, but they're working much harder at those speeds!
Also it was an LS before, but it got swapped for a broken small block
Common to swap in junk before selling if you had something nice in there before
@@samuelaguina8402 yeah, it might actually make the car better or something, cant have that, 2jz yo!
BRING ROADKILL BACK TO CZcams NOW!!!
You can see the airodynamics on the truck with all the smoke 😂😂😂😂😂
Lmao at the smoke smoothly riding off the top of the truck like is doing 250mph through a wind tunnel.
This truck is a worthy successor to the Mazdarati. Rear mounted big block mopar with zoomies, please....
Probably could have got a junkyard 350 for the price of that oil.
Maybe I missed something but why are you blurring out every logo on all the advertisements in the background?
No oil in cylinders reseated the rings! 😂
Yeah don't pay for the app cause road kill and dirt everyday won't upload for months at a time. And that's the only reason I pay for the app
I wonder why they never showed this episode on motor trend.
Small block Chevy ) most reliable engine. Fact check that )
I love watching you guys do this.
The magic is clearly gone.
I would have loaded a case of Restore(tm) at that supply stop.
I went through 24 quarts on a trip from California back to Idaho once. I think it was a rear main.
Where online in Australia can I watch all these episodes I did have motor trend but it's no longer available in Australia 😭
London Ontario to ThunderBay Ontario in a 1980 Ford F100. 64L of oil in 1400kms
The editors blurred it, but you know that I know that you know that it's Quaker State oil.
My dad had a Buick that leaked so much transmission oil, he rigged up a funnel to add oil while driving. All the way from Iowa to California.
Typical Roadkill. Not typical cops
Like we always say here in Missouri fill up the oil checked the gas
There goes the entire Jurassic period onto the atmosphere.
beautiful truck
U should have put restore in it!
I love how they got pulled over by FHP when they were still supposedly in GA.
It did not like that burn out at all
Hilux toughest truck in the world !!!!!
that was a nice truck stock but that's a pretty sweet setup
Love yous 2 together makes this brilliant like old times
Jeez at a quick glance I'd mistake that for a chevy luv. maybe because my dad has one that exact red rust color
Hi guys I live in Greece how can I watch motor trend on demand ?
I use to have a car that did this. Had the thickest diesel oil i could find in it and still burned it bad
Dude claimed the rear was from a Mustang...he was quickly corrected.
It’s a still 8.8
Did you find the source of the oil leak or consumption?
Oof.... That hurts to look all that oil that's just going to be burnt and possibly not because those spark plugs are pretty much garbage by like the 12th quart of oil
Also would hate to hit a decent pothole an catch those dodgey looking caltrat bars wouldn't end well
I don't understand why they had to remove just about every Roadkill episode off of CZcams there's a total of maybe six I get you want to have a subscription service but now there's no other choice
I'm liking the front of this little gem. Grandpa had a mid 70s Datsun very similar. That thing deserves a crate motor! You spent 25% of that cost in oil alone to get there.
Vw engineers would say it's normal🤣
I've driven a chevy with a small block that smoked and it never brown down sometimes it moked because it got low on oil and will leaky or valve you just add some 10w40 that will do the trick.
Wow what an awesome truck. Sell it to me bro
Ever heard of STP? It works.
Is roadkill still available in Europe?
