Our Launch Control series has unearthed some of the most incredible custom car builds in South Africa, and this latest beast is no exception.
When we heard that there was a Hilux running around Johannesburg with a Mercedes-AMG C63 engine, we just knew we had to film it., and here it is!
Quentin Boylan is the mastermind behind this wonderful Frankenstien. He owns Colt & Toyota Spares in Pretoria (ctspares.co.za/) and he has a fiery passion for building exclusive, one-of-a-kind daily drives and supercars.
This is without a doubt one of the maddest, neatest engine swaps we've ever seen. The whole conversion has been executed brilliantly and the exterior looks purposeful without being over the top and shouty.

The X Class wasn't really offering anything special besides the Merc badge. Only explanation brand snobbery 🤔.
Mercedes knew better. The fact that you can doesn't mean you should. They'd run at a huge loss meanwhile pleasing few enthusiasts, the car would cost too much.

There's a lot of crazy conversions this side of the world yeah, and the people here love 2JZs. There are a couple of BMW E30s with it and a few bakkies (pick-up trucks) with it as well

I own a C63 but if Mercedes put the glorious 6.2L in a 4x4 pickup truck. I would 100% buy one. Props for this guy doing it 💪🏼

Its called the Tundra... in the US, TRD generally does a supercharger kit for every truck Toyota sells, for the first couple of years or so. Magnussen (sic?) do a turbo kit for the 5.7L v8 toyota tundra too btw. Brings it up to 600+BHP at the wheels. This is just beautiful craftsmanship tho.

This is mad genius, I loved his first AMG bakkie and this one is even more sick and I understand if the man wants to limit making these machines for others...making his an exclusive. I'd kinda want that for myself lol but I want such a "sleeper" and I'm no machanic at all.

I'm impressed that the d4d gearbox is able to withstand the insane torque from the 6.3👀🤣
It’s actually not that much torque, diesels are brutal on gearboxes. D4D has 370 lb ft very low in the rev range, whilst the 6.3 AMG has about 460 lb ft higher up in the rev range.
@@yjkader ya I suppose, though it's still more torque than its normally supposed to hold up to, albeit it's probably the same gearbox used on the 4 litre v6🤷♂️😂

Mercedes should've developed the X class on their own from the outset and they should've also made a 63 version. Would've been epic. I hope they are watching this. I hope Toyota is watching too because then maybe they'll make a high performance Hilux. They probably won't but just maybe.

This looks and sounds spectacular. Glad he didnt add unnecessary things. Looks menacing. Alloys suit the car to a tee too. I would've blacked out the chrome in the grill just to give it a bit more "get the fuck out of my way" attitude. 😅. Impressive stuff 👌🏿

A Toyota Hilux Bakkie with a AMG 63 motor should be quite a vehicle. The Hilux should give some hot hatches a run for their money. I wonder what Toyota South Africa thinks about it. What a brilliant build.
