This video should have millions of views. It's sad that for perhaps the first time in history we have two of the all-time greatest wrestlers sitting side by side talking kayfabe! My god, 30 years ago this would have been absolutely impossible to ever imagine! It's sad that most of the fans who really truly appreciate this either haven't found it yet or just aren't around anymore. This would have been earth-shattering back in the days when cable TV ruled all media.

Since there are Professional Wrestling Conventions, Meet and Greets at Wrestling Shows, Panels, WrestleMania Axxess Sessions, SummerSlam Axxess and other Professional Wrestling related events around North America, Europe and Asia, these instances happen far more than you know. I remember meeting and talking to NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race and AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkle a number of years ago at WrestleMania Axxess and my Brother and I were like Kids at a Candy Store. Tough to compare Rasslers from different era's simply because so many factors existed.....good and bad. Same really goes for any sport. I will say Ric is a Legend...as is Harley and Bruno...nuff said on Who's The Greatest.

    • @pulsarstargrave256
      @pulsarstargrave256 Před 2 lety +3

Yeah but I thought Bruno had lot of nerve to say that about Flair! Yes, Flair had his trademark "Flairisms" but you can say that about a LOT of wrestlers, and some fans might be disappointed if they aren't there, what prevents matches from being repetitive are the order in which they appear and the finishes! And part of the fun about Flair was figuring out which dirty trick he would use to escape defeat! Whenever he won fairly, we were pleasantly surprised!
I was a bit of a Bruno fan, too and his matches were "Kick, punch, kick,punch.....badguy takes control, Sammartino gets angry, " kick,punch,kick....swing to the ropes, bear hug, badguy can't take pain and submits! IF a heel escapes with an eye gouge, Bruno found some other way to win! And this was the "same" for many nights but we. LOVED it!
To me it became more of a WWWF/WWF v. NWA clash of STYLES! Standig up and walking around against down on the mat grappling and body slamming! I grew to prefer the NWA or " Southern" style but occasionally liked Vince Sr.'s preference for having Babyface champions!

"And I consider this a SPORT"....that last sentence by Harley shows the respect Harley had for the business and to what extents he would go to protect it. That's why guys respected him so much and he was so revered as the NWA World Champ.
Compare this with guys in the business today. The guys and girls today are not serious about this sport. I heard one pampered indy girl named Jordynne Grace call it a "Performance Art". That's why wrestling is where it is today, in the absolute worst shape possible. Yet these marks in the business and Dave Meltzer pat themselves on the back thinking what they do works. I am sorry but it doesn't snowflake.
Wrestling desperately needs Harley today to teach these guys how to work, how to respect and dedicate themselves to this business and how to not insult it. Also, the world needs more alpha males like Harley. Nowadays a lot of men seem to be pussified beyond hope.
Rest easy Mr. Race. You did very well. I am proud to call myself a fan of the sport of professional wrestling because of the work of people like you, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Bruno and others.

Hate to break it to you, but wrestling wasn’t a global phenomenon back then the way it is now. You can take every dime that the territories made throughout the 70’s and 80’s and put it all into one bank account and it wouldn’t even be a fraction of what WWE makes in half a year. The business is in a better place now than it ever has been.

Hard for my Mid Atlantic roots to admit, but Hogan eventually surpasses Flair.... but up to that point Flair ranks ahead of all the champions of the 60-90's in terms of charisma and ability to sell. Globalized the "sport". Never thought of AWA and WWF as global so that would hold back Gagne and Bruno. Alot of worthy champions, but Flair, Dusty, and Graham were the true visionaries and entertainers.

By November 1993, WCW decided to once again base the promotion around Ric Flair. This was seen as more or less a necessity after prospective top babyface Sid Vicious was involved in an incident with Arn Anderson (which resulted in hospitalization of both men)[43] while on tour in England eight weeks before Starrcade and was fired. Flair then placed his career on the line against Big Van Vader for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Flair won the title at Starrcade and was once again made booker.[44] That did not stop WCW from suffering massive financial losses in 1993, however; a staggering $23 million.[41]

What do you want from a champion? I like the talkers from the 80s, and I think guys like Flair, Piper and Lawler are great entertainers. But some may like brilliant ring work and high risk moves the most. Others may like scientific wrestling technicians. Some just want to see the most impressive physical specimens or the craziest gimmicks. We can debate who was the best champion, but there is more than one reason people might think a champion was the best!😎

It doesn't matter what you like, Bruno. Ric Flair promoted the business better than ANYONE else. His matches were not designed to make him look good. They were designed to make his opponents look great and to promote future events. Race and Sammartino were from a very different era. Flair held the NWA title for so long because no one else could do it. Flair could wrestle for 60 minutes every night. He could do this for months at a time. Most guys didn't want that responsibility. Flair embraced it and excelled at it. You can say what you want about Flair as a person, but no one can deny his talent and promotional abilities.

I think the “real” reason why Bruno didn’t care for Ric was because of his “crazy, wild antics” outside of the ring & us wrestling fans know what those were.😁 Did Bruno respect Flair cause of his hard work in the business? Yes he did! Did Bruno respect him as a person? NO & that’s why Bruno has no problem of saying negative things about Flair! Let’s understand something, these old timers like Bruno, when you’re a champion, you are supposed to carry yourself as a champion, in & outside the ring & that’s including in public! Ric was coming up in wrestling in a different time period, the 70’s & we all know that era were crazy times so pretty much Ric just road with it. Again, that’s my take on Bruno…..But in my eyes, Flair is still the best & hardest working Champion of all time!

Everyone says Flair wrestled the same match. Flair wrestled over 30 years, night after night, week after week, 6 days a week. No one saw Flairs every match. He wrestled differently in in younger days compared when he got older,. He had cage, tag matches etc. Any wrestler will have the same moves and holds in their skill set. You can't have that many moves, holds etc plus he called the matches on the fly. Bruno was kick, bear hug, stomp and punch.

Ok, when you think about it….. what makes the greatest champion ever?
Who sold the most tickets; who sold the most merchandise, who drew the biggest houses and most consistently!!
It has to be the Hulkster plain and simple!
Hulk could work with practically anyone, could mix it up if he had the opposition to do so with, he had such a long run at the biggest point in history for wrestling, more people watched the weekly shows than what watch in an entire month today!
Why? Hulk Hogan!! It was a phenomenon, even billy Graham said it, it was like beatle mania, the world just couldn’t get enough of the WWF at the time.
