that how many pure bowlers have become captains in the history of cricket
    14
& now when Bumrah's captaincy has also started a whole lot of controversy
we need to revist this idea that fast bowlers or even bowlers for that matter can't become captains
so as we look into the statistical angle of the trends behind this decision and the historical significance behind this
the difference the captaincy of pat Cummins - the Australian captain has made
ANd the various reasons why bowlers have been kept away from captaincy
from feild setting issues to selfsh nature to even the fact that batsman are more in the team
we seem to have completely side steeped the actual qualiteis that yo require in a captain
    leaadership
    cricketing IQ
but all that has been pshed aside
    tp the pont
that Umrah - who is the eiptome of a hard working - ever evolving stalwart of India
who spearheading the indian pace attck has consistently brought applauds for india
    through sheer grit and perseverance
From comparisions to virat kohli to angles of coach Rahul dravid
from the litany of ndian captains in the past
    from venkatraghvan to kumble
    we try to understand
why exactly does BUmrah's captaincy matters.

Lasith Malinga (fast bowler) was the T20 World Cup winning captain back in 2014. And that was the major tournament win for Sri Lanka since 2002. I personally think having a bowler as a captain isn't gonna effect the team in a bad way, specially since it's a sport based on teamwork.

If a batsman screws up, the team can rectify. but if a bowler screws up, it is hard to come back. Imagine this, 15 runs required in the last over. Captain has an over left but is doing badly, one more bowler has overs left, but was doing well. Can you rely on the bowlers to be objective and not to go for glory? You can say that about batsmen too, but batters have a chance to change the strike in middle of the over, but bowlers can't.

    • @Victor_Trumper
      @Victor_Trumper Před rokem

Well that's a very lame argument.... Many batters have sacrificed their spot for their team... The most prominent one being ganguly, he sacrificed his spot for sehwag. Once one becomes captain, they tend to put their team's result first.
So you are saying bowlers don't have impulse control? All they care is glory. That's messed up. Just blatantly wrong.

    • @gsnksojwnw
      @gsnksojwnw Před rokem +1

@@Victor_Trumper no, I'm saying if a bowler goes for glory, it's an entire over. When a batter does it, he can salvage it to an extent. I'm not saying they will, but if a bowler loses objectivity, it'll be much more painful than if a batter does

there's probably a reason why batters are made captains. The chance/risk of injury to a bowler is higher and especially if you are fast bowler it goes a few notches up. 100% cricket is rigged towards batting.... Like a century which is more common than a 5 Wicket is celebrated and remembered more...
    Man of match lists...etc..
But when it comes to captainship regular availability is a valid reasoning along with couple of reasons you listed...
That's why the previous mindset that bowlers should not be captain is not relevant in today's time....
A fast bowler may not be in playing 11 where track favours spin or vice versa but some batsman are sure in playing 11.
Bumrah was consistent part of playing 11 hence desicion was made... Anil kumble etc...
Also bowlers have shorter career span than batsman (in general) thus changing captain every now and then is also not a suggestive option.

When a batsman hits a six, it's a spectacle, people cheer and clap
When a bowler bowls a dot ball, it's overlooked
For some reason bowling and fielding have never been appreciated enough in cricket throughout history
Batsmen have always been the face of teams and cricket itself
I believe This is also part that lead to batsmen usually being captains

I don't think bowler as a captain is a good idea because he has to do a exhausting job of fast bowling and then his body and mind is not capable of taking decisions Australian bowlers are different they are very fit you can see the tiredness of a indian fast bowler after just bowling 4-5 overs

Man I don't know about your current job, but you have a real chance in sports journalism, please think about it, there is one CZcams channel 'think school' which is kind of similar to your channel but instead of sports it has videos of business studies, I strongly feel you will also reach to that level, you just need to increase frequency of videos i.e. think school posts video every two days
