every single time I watch a Tabi Eats video, I think to myself "I want a Satoshi of my very own." but seriously, I wouldn't turn down a Shinichi, either. you two are adorable.
It's interesting, here in the U.S. @ Trader Joe's we sell copious amounts of two breads, one called pain au lait a super soft white bread and the other is 'sliced French brioche'. They're the same bread in two differing shapes. Its primary buyer are Asian Americans. I recalled a documentary (or was it here on your channel?) that discussed a bakery in Japan that sold American origin Japanese cakes. It told how during the war several American products were introduced such as cheesecake and white bread which became adopted and adapted into Japanese culture! I thought it was such a cool story.
You guys make me SO HAPPY🤗. You are a joy to watch!!! Can I tell you?...I think my favorite would be a warm fried chicken sandwich 😋. That looks so good!!! Thank you guys🥰💖.
Nice video guys! I just discovered a Japanese bakery in my area. In the USA, the Japanese bread and Koppepan are sort of new. In our traditional Japan towns, we usually have a manju store but not a bakery or sandwich store. Now in our newer Japanese market places, we are starting to get more modern food items. I want to try the koppepan here now. Thanks guys!
Phillip Arpin I’m in San Jose. We have a koppepan bakery in the Mitsuwa market place on Saratoga Ave. it’s called Clover. I’m not sure about LA. The Jtown in LA is more touristy. There might be one out in Torrance or the Sawtell area. Maybe look in Yelp.
There's something about the combo of potatoes with bread that is very enticing and comforting. Whenever I make kopytka, which is a Polish dish similar to Schupfnudel and gnocchi, I leave aside a bit of pressed potatoes, put them on bread with some butter, salt and pepper and it's sooo yummy. :D
The 'snow' one w/ whipped cream, powdered sugar, orange and cherry reminded me of American "ambrosia salad" (which is usually whipped cream with oranges (mandarin or normal), pineapple, sweetened coconut flakes and miniature marshmallows...and often some other fruits like maraschino cherries and grapes and bananas, etc., and maybe pecans or walnuts).
in case anyone is watching this much later and wondering how to get sandwich bread not to sog out: You have to put a fat on the bread before the filling. Usually Butter or Mayo (which is made of oil, egg yolk, and vinegar) because fats are hydrophobic; they repel water. So if you coat the inside layers of bread in a fat, it will repel any water content of the filling. This is also why in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, the pro move is to cover both slices of bread in peanut butter (which has a high fat content) before putting in the jelly.
That strawberry-butter sandwich kind of floored me. It seems very decadent! As a Nordic person I'm used to sandwiches being open-faced and savoury, but I can see the appeal of something like these Japanese delicacies you've showcased, too! Our style of sandwiches are perhaps simpler in terms of ingredients, and seldom heated or toasted... but I can definitely see myself eating something like the potato sandwich bun - reminds me a bit of a British chip butty!
Well it's not that bad, the idea of putting something sweet and salty together works very well. A very nice combination of flavor. If you had asian food or even other type of bakery you would probably had that kinda flavor before but just didn't notice or think about it.
This video is sooo interesting. I love how a simple sandwich can hide such captivating flavours! I think it's awesome, thank you guys for sharing. I hope to recreate some of these at home!
The sandwiches looked tasty and interesting. The rum raisin and mint chocolate chip think I would enjoy since I can't eat ice cream anymore and they are two of my favorite flavors and the potato is not to strange to me because I used to eat home fries on bread as a kid lol
I would like to try each one. I love your videos. You give us a glimpse into life in Japan, whether it is through the food or your trips around your beautiful country. Thank you.
the sandwiches looked delicious and very fresh and with your usual panache and passion you brought the humble sandwich to greater heights thanks you guys for the usual fun video
I like to try the egg salad. When I was working nights in the South Texas oil fields, I used to pack egg salad sandwiches all the time. But, I would add crushed ritz crackers to it. Along with mayonnaise, a little mustard, salt pepper, and a dash of paprika.
This and your latest Mos rice burger reviews are my favorite. Just because you can see the joy of the flavors on your faces. Love it. Now I want to teach myself how to make this bread.
I just like listening to you guys talk. I love the way Satoshi talks. It's clear he is Japanese speaking English but you can still understand him and its soothing. Shinichi sounds native English. I wouldn't guess he was Japanese.
It’s funny. I rarely eat white bread for the last 20 years. Always whole wheat with seeds and such. I’m just so impressed that Japanese eat these things without overdoing it. Americans need to figure this out! Video was so interesting.
Hello, Shinichi and Satoshi! This was so much fun to watch! All of the koppepan sandwiches looked really delicious. This is probably not a surprise, but if I could try one, it would be the Matcha An sandwich. It looks amazing! All the savory sandwiches looked so good, too. Would you ever go back to Gosetsudo and get some of the ones you haven't tasted yet? It would be fun to watch. Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing you at the livestream!
If you liked the butter and jam all that much you should visit here in the South ! Southern USA. We have biscuits served with butter and jam, jelly , marmalade or even honey or sorghum! Mmm makes me hungry thinking about it.
Loved this Everything looks great Loved seeing Simichi when he liked the food and just as much when Satoshis face when he tries to be polite but hates the peppermint so funny
Great video guys those all looked good it would be hard to choose what one to have they all looked so yummy. Really great to watch all those sandwiches made me want to try all of them too
Tartare sauce goes with Fish (as in fish & chips) not Chicken. Anywhoo, on a side note, can I just say I've just found your channel last night and I can't stop watching, love you guys!
I agree with Zatoshi! Mint and chocolate - no way! Egg salad is not common in Norway, my first encounter with it was in Japan in high school. I love it, especially with kyupi mayonnaise!
Love this koppepan video. The Japanese people are so creative in using the fluffy sandwiches. They all look so good and yummy. I have to agree with Satoshi about the mint chocolate sandwich, odd combination. I don't even eat it in ice cream form. Hello to you two.
Gosetsudo looks excellent! Everything was honestly appealing, and the Hokkaido influence is interesting. I want to try the jam with butter and chocolate mint ones. And it's kind of strange because I'm more of a savory person. The uji matcha and fruit ones looked good too. But the korokke ones are calling my name. Thanks for this video and have a great weekend! P.S. Keeping everyone affected by the earthquake and typhoon in my thoughts. P.P.S. Please vote for TabiEats in the Best Food Video category of Saveur magazine’s 2018 Blog Awards. Thanks!
When we were kids, my mother used to make fried potato sandwiches with ketchup. I loved them. Whenever my mother made spaghetti, I used to sneak into the kitchen and make a sandwich with cold spaghetti.
my favorite is falafel in a pita bread,or guacamole in a bun,or tousted bread with greek yogurt on top ,and home maid strawberry jam on top, with a black strong coffe to drink
Making a note to try this place out on my visit! Do you guys have a mega list of must try foods and places in Japan? Glad the rest of the sandwiches were not wasted. Lots of CZcamsrs eat a bite and you are left to wonder if the rest is thrown out.
LOL I am from the Midwest in America and my kids eat spaghetti sandwiches every time we have spaghetti. We eat a lot of egg salad too. However, the sweet sandwiches are weird to me. I bet my kids would like them though.
thanks for a great vlog ,have to say the bread looked great you got me at strawberry and salted butter , you carnt go wrong ,sorry if i have been one of those who commented about italian food , point taken . a recipe with leftover spaghetti that my husbands grandma used to make was make an omelette with it if grandma did have many leftovers she put dry bread and then coverd it with what you call marinara sauce you can put mozzerella chese and put under grill grandma didnt it is one of my husbands fav dishes even after 45 years
That was interesting. My friend have often thought I was slightly strange because of some of the things I like to put in a sandwich, but I now think I might have Japanese DNA because a lot of those sandwiches appealed to me - especially the mint choc chip and the rum and raisin (I've never tried these in sandwiches, but I must sooner or later). I have often snuck into the kitchen after a family meal and put leftover potatoes (usually just plain boiled, or maybe mashed) in between two slices of bread and butter for a quick snack. I like the idea of that spaghetti sandwich too, and I often have bread and butter when I eat a Pot Noodle (UK equivalent of Cup Noodle) so I can make a little noodle sandwich. One of my personal favourites is a fried onion sandwich - with lots of black pepper ground over it and a blob of HP Sauce. Very messy to eat, but also very satisfying.
I just discovered this channel, and I am in LOVE with you both!!! I will be binge watching all I can.. now do you eat the savory sandwiches hot or cold?? I would LOVE to try the potato one warm: thanks for the great content
Watched the video this morning, went to the station this afternoon to get one to try (peanut because I’m in Chiba). About to try it with my afternoon cup of tea.
All those sandwich looked sooo delicious. My favorites were potato sandwich for savory, and matcha and atsuki beans for sweet one. PD: Here in the Dominican Republic we do make spaguetti sandwich but not as a meal, is just a personal combination a person can make with its own plate of spaguetti xD I enjoyed those spaguetti sandwiches a lot as a kid!
>potato sandwich
as an Irish man I NEED this in my life right now
every single time I watch a Tabi Eats video, I think to myself "I want a Satoshi of my very own." but seriously, I wouldn't turn down a Shinichi, either. you two are adorable.
D H I think we should all have a Satoshi in our lives!
@@angemaidment5640 wouldn't it be so nice?
@Barbara Western men in general
Veronica Boerks I’m a western man and I agree.
👀
Satoshi's reaction to the rum raisin 🤪 You two are so sweet!

Those look so good! You should do another selection of these again sometime.

You in Los Angeles? I get out there periodically if so. Can you tell me some good Japanese bakery locations?
Phillip Arpin I’m in San Jose. We have a koppepan bakery in the Mitsuwa market place on Saratoga Ave. it’s called Clover. I’m not sure about LA. The Jtown in LA is more touristy. There might be one out in Torrance or the Sawtell area. Maybe look in Yelp.
Oh darn. Yea, little tokyo is terribly touristy. Thanks though.
The strawberry jam and butter sandwich caught my eye.
Yum! Your videos never fail to make me hungry! 😊

It's so good
My mum’s English and her comfort food is a chip (French fry) sandwich with hp sauce
always made potato sandwiches as a kid w leftover breakfast food when grandma was alive
That roasted potato one looks sooo delicious
Yummy! 😋

Who said anything about it being bad? I'm well familiar with salty-sweet, but strawberry jam and butter is a combo that would not crop up here.
This video is sooo interesting. I love how a simple sandwich can hide such captivating flavours! I think it's awesome, thank you guys for sharing. I hope to recreate some of these at home!
I love your shirts, they suit you both very well! And the sandwiches look so yummy 😋
Love watching your videos!
Been voting non stop since last week for you guys.
Aww thank you
The sandwiches looked tasty and interesting. The rum raisin and mint chocolate chip think I would enjoy since I can't eat ice cream anymore and they are two of my favorite flavors and the potato is not to strange to me because I used to eat home fries on bread as a kid lol
Please do more of these sandwiches! I’d love to see you guys review all 27!
I would like to try each one. I love your videos. You give us a glimpse into life in Japan, whether it is through the food or your trips around your beautiful country. Thank you.
I love japanese bread
I end up buying 5 breads Every time i go to the bread shop because there are just too many great options
the sandwiches looked delicious and very fresh and with your usual panache and passion you brought the humble sandwich to greater heights thanks you guys for the usual fun video
Oh my goodness this is making me so hungry now, the bread is so sooooft, the fillings wow I wish I could eat those NOW😍
You should try the Japanese School Lunch Restaurant!!!!! Please!!!
Other people have tried that. It was boring. Search on CZcams and you will them to watch.
I like to try the egg salad. When I was working nights in the South Texas oil fields, I used to pack egg salad sandwiches all the time. But, I would add crushed ritz crackers to it. Along with mayonnaise, a little mustard, salt pepper, and a dash of paprika.
I love learning Japan words for describing food!
Strawberry jam and butter is THE BEST thing ever!!!
That bread looks incredible, love you guys videos, Japanese sandwiches are just so much more interesting than English ones 🤩
Back when I could still eat bread... strawberry jam and butter was one of my favorite sandwiches. Also peanut butter and pickles.
Yes, I agree with Satoshi:
Mint and chocolate is the worst ever!! Finally there's a kindred spiritl, LOL!!
All the best to you!!
There are mint chocolate foods I will eat, like a mint-flavoured chocolate, but not sure about putting it on bread.
Mint chocolate ice cream is amazing
Wow Japan really has the craziest selection of sandwiches! So many options! So many flavours and styles!
Im a british woman in England but i always make Hokkaido milk bread. Its so fluffy, soft and stays fresh for a long time.
Please please please do another of these videos! I'm so interested in these sandwiches! !! They look so awesome.
This and your latest Mos rice burger reviews are my favorite. Just because you can see the joy of the flavors on your faces. Love it. Now I want to teach myself how to make this bread.
Yummy! Koppepan will be on my list now when I visit tokyo this winter!😁
These look amazing. I'm loving the diversity of these sandwiches! Wish we had stuff like this in Ireland
I like this channel because you try things that I would never even think about. But now, I certainly would want to try those sandwiches.
I just like listening to you guys talk. I love the way Satoshi talks. It's clear he is Japanese speaking English but you can still understand him and its soothing. Shinichi sounds native English. I wouldn't guess he was Japanese.
Shinichi lived in Hawaii as a kid/teenager.
Awesome fillings! The bread looks so soft. Yum☺
It’s funny. I rarely eat white bread for the last 20 years. Always whole wheat with seeds and such. I’m just so impressed that Japanese eat these things without overdoing it. Americans need to figure this out! Video was so interesting.
That bread looks Heavenly!!!
Yes the mint and chocolate chip yummie
My favorite is ALL of them, lol. Again, you guys have all the good stuff in Japan :)
Hello, Shinichi and Satoshi! This was so much fun to watch! All of the koppepan sandwiches looked really delicious. I want to eat that bread with homemade butter!! I love potato sandwiches and that one looked amazing.
Tartare sauce goes with Fish (as in fish & chips) not Chicken. Anywhoo, on a side note, can I just say I've just found your channel last night and I can't stop watching, love you guys!
Miss A. De Jonge for me, tartare sauce is better on chips.
Satoshi is so cute. He is so real. 👍
I agree with Zatoshi! Mint and chocolate - no way!
Egg salad is not common in Norway, my first encounter with it was in Japan in high school. I love it, especially with kyupi mayonnaise!
I am new to the channel and just wanted to say thank you for sharing all of your eating adventures! 😁
Everything looks delicious!
Hello guys I am becoming a big fan of your channel. As I am looking to visit Japan next year.
I make my own egg salad. I don't know how you all do it Japan but it is magical.
Love how they describe everything and genuinely enjoy eating..... Making me hungry
LOL I am from the Midwest in America and my kids eat spaghetti sandwiches every time we have spaghetti. We eat a lot of egg salad too. However, the sweet sandwiches are weird to me. I bet my kids would like them though.

If you’re going to have “starch on starch”, roasted potatoes (hot) are amazing on fresh bread. With mint sauce.
Love you guys!
Very yummy! Glad you guys are back making videos! 👍👍👍❤❤❤

All of the sandwiches looked great guys, such weirdness with the mint chocolate chip but id eat it still
Butter and Strawberry Jam is delicious!
I'm drooling watching this.
I will have to try these when I come to Japan!!!
That was fun! 😊
Egg Salad (Egg Mayonnaise in England ;) ) is my favourite sandwich!
I'm with you on mint and chocolate Satoshi. It takes away from both.
First! My son and I love watching your channel! Every time you say “mmmmm” I get hungry for fluffy bread sandwich! #WeLoveTabiEats
Thanks for watching so early!!!!!! You rock!!!
And thanks for being a "First!" person who actually had a comment instead of just being a lame person who just yells "First!" and that's it! ;-)
shouting first was lame 10 years ago.

I love sandwiches so this video was amazing! They look simple, but so good!
Satoshi should try mint jelly with roast lamb! 😊
Oh my, I wish we could have a shop like that here. I would definitely try all their sandwiches, they look so delicious 😍😍😍
The icecream sandwich looks very interesting and tasty! Thank you for sharing!
finally Family Mart open in my country...gonna test all the meals there
Watched the video this morning, went to the station this afternoon to get one to try (peanut because I’m in Chiba). About to try it with my afternoon cup of tea.
This all looked delicious. I know my bro would totally enjoy the mint chocolate chip. Keep up the great videos 👍🤘🤙
I was always interested in fruit sandwiches
Spaghetti sandwich with mayo on fresh white bread is delish!
Hahaha, love your faces when you bite into something really good to you!
Here in the Philippines we love matching spaghetti or any kind of noodles with bread.
All those sandwich looked sooo delicious. My favorites were potato sandwich for savory, and matcha and atsuki beans for sweet one.
