Czeslaw Niemen is the godfather of Polish rock, still immensely respected.
The text of this song is a poem from 1922. It was written by the famous Polish poet Julian Tuwim. I think that Niemen perfectly reflected the atmosphere of this poem

Dear Teacher Paul, this song was sung a lot years ago, but it is amazing for nowadays. I heard it on the postcard plates of my parents. During the comunism, we hadn`t to contact with "West". Somebody make these postcard plates , who was a substitute for Western culture. Pozdrowienia !

4:00 You hit it perfectly. I'm 24 and this is the one of songs of my parents. Everytime when I hear it I want to dance to this song at "the first dance" on my wedding. For nowadays teens this song is too old to appreciate but I think it's matter of time. Thanks for reaction 😊
Actually there is not that lot of comms so im gonna add up. He is just a legend in Poland and ... its just beautiful. I remember that my parents when I was a kid played it a lot, so for me his music is more like childhood.

Czesław Niemen had a vocal range rarely seen in the world and he used it with ease. I think it's the best, but for those who are persistent at the beginning (5 minutes) and then it's a trance phase :-)
Trivia :
- At the beginning of 1964, Niemen composed his next hit "Do you still remember me?" Marlene Dietrich, who was visiting Warsaw at the time, liked it so much that she recorded a new version of it, with her own German lyrics.
- At the end of 1974, Niemen received an offer to join the English band Blood, Sweat and Tears, then enjoying world fame. He rejected this proposal, citing artistic differences.
