    My coach used to call the open-hip splits "lazy cheat" cuz it's easier to achieve compare with the squared one. But I didn't know about the injury part. Thx for bringing this up. And for those who comment on ballet dancer's splits, their hips are squared, they only turn out the knee( if you take a look, their hips are not tilted to one side; only the knee and the sole are turned out).

    • @rachelplummer2668
      @rachelplummer2668 Před 3 lety +23

      Turnout comes from the hip flexors(or the “sockets,” if you will). If dancers force their turnout using their knees or ankles, they are bound to get injured. Please educate yourself about proper ballet technique!

    • @rachelplummer2668
      @rachelplummer2668 Před 3 lety +18

      Ballet dancers have to stretch and strengthen their turnout muscles so that they can maintain proper turnout while maintaining proper technique in all other parts of the body. Turnout is best served with square hips :))

      Yes ballets still have hips square but instead of their toes pointing to the ceiling there toes is turned 90 degrees like u said knees
      They have different rules but the closest sport to Rythmic Gymnastics

    Artistic gymnastics coach here. Thank GOD someone is addressing square splits. I have students come in all the time and show me their splits and they’re horrifically crooked. It’s a bad habit a lot of people get in. A bad habit that can hurt your body and mess up critical skills. I’ll definitely be recommending this to my gymnasts

    This is exactly the video I've been looking for! No one ever corrected me as a kid, but I definitely figured out my hips were totally open and twisted as I got older. Even something as simple as kicking up to a handstand had my hips discombobulated and retraining my body has been quite the challenge. I saw the IGTV you did on square splits a while ago and this is the perfect follow up. I've been watching you for years and years on here and it's been awesome seeing your videos blow up on TikTok!

    The type of the split can be absolutely different for everyone. It depends on what for do you need it. If you compare gymnastics, ballet and yoga split you will see totally different shapes and the only thing which unite them all is 180 degrees from one leg to another one😉 And I do professional pole dance for example:) For us pole dancers it's not that much important, because we bend our bodies in super crazy shapes time to time, perfectly to use both kind of splits 😁 and just to repeat all tricks for both sides 🙃🙃
