  • In this video I show you two ways you can chop samples on the SP404sx. This will also work exactly the same if you are using a 404a as well.
    I hope you find this useful and if you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below!

    Great video my dude! You’ve really helped me overcome the learning curve of the 404sx. Is there a way to truncate both the start and end of a sample to create a perfect loop?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +6

      You can use the mark point twice. Press it once for the start and then again for then end whist holding the sample pad down - then you can adjust and truncate, that's how I would do it! I might do a video on that actually

  • @borissagideyev5278

    Stoked you've been posting again man! Is there any big difference between recording in a sample through the line and using your computer to load them?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety

      not really man no - i just use my computer to downpitch and timstretch so then I just export that as a wav and import directly onto the SD card - there wouldn't be much difference just using the rca input though

    Any idea how to copy samples on an original SP 404. I have an old model and don't have a [FUNC.] button :( I looked all over and checked the manual with no luck. Thanks!

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety

      Hey man, i think you can only resample on the OG, there is no copy function!

  • @SKYE-ex4rs

    just curious where do you find your jazz samples? i take it there royalty free ? its fine if you dont wanna spill the secrets but i have trouble finding good samples that aren't copy written.

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +2

      I will do a video on how I find samples on CZcams soon man. And royalty wise - Chop, repitch, timestretch ;)

    @jeanmichel5417 Před 3 lety +2

    Man I don’t have much fun as in the beginning with the sp 404. It’s Always like find a sample, modify it, add drum, do a little structure, how can I break this ? What more can I do ? Cheers 🍻

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +1

      I know the feeling man. I have struggled to take my beats past the same situation you are describing. Have you tried exporting out to a DAW and finishing your beats in there? I have been adding my laptop into my workflow more recently and getting better end results

    • @jeanmichel5417
      @jeanmichel5417 Před 3 lety +1

      spvidz Yes I work on ableton also, but like I can do anything the sp can on Ableton, I thought about doing drone music with sp only will see haha thank for the answer :)

    • @musgoone
      @musgoone Před 3 lety +2

      There are a lot of ways to make beats, challenge yourself. For example: record sounds from around you and play with them, record your voice to make vocal samples, reverse samples, experiment with different generes of music... I hope I gave you some ideas, much love.

    • @jeanmichel5417
      @jeanmichel5417 Před 3 lety +2

      Musgo One Thanks mate good idea

    • @senhorlampada
      @senhorlampada Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah... I was gonna suggest what Musgo One said. So i'll add: treat it as a multitrack recorder. So Pads 1-4 could be 4 sections of drum, 5-8 bass and 9-12 a melody. Record instruments or mobile apps. Use the onboard mic and try sound design with this.
      Then mix and match what you did before with new stuff ;)
      Oh yeah... and when Rec is armed, hit BPM and define your tempo. So when you stop recording, it will auto-mark the ending

    What's the benefit of importing vs. recording the sample via line-in?

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  Před 3 lety +1

      I downpitch and timestrech my samples using Ableton so then it makes sense to just export that as a wav and import it!

      I agree - making beats should be a personal experience, I appreciate the feeling when you hear a sample you like and want to flip it though - I used to be the same. What I have done to combat that is slowly built up a stash that I can dip in to and make beats whenever. I keep adding to it regularly!
