As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

    The only power tool I have is a drill but I'll still try to make this for my sister who needs a new desk.
    I'm just starting to learn how to do diy projects like this and I just hope I can make accurate and clean cuts since all I have are a couple of handsaws.

    Great design an nicely done . A suggestion would be to use rigid insulation board when cutting large sheets. Makes it safer and also easier on the back

      It's a piece of cake! You can do it even with an old handsaw and some hand hammered nails. Never let budget be a restriction on your ambition.

    The video started already onto the process of the project, and I felt like I had missed some steps at 8 seconds into this video. I have never done a DIY anything, this video is very intimidating though I Houghton it might be cute to use this technique for a light table.

    Pre-drilling into the 2nd piece of wood can prevent cracking/splitting of wood.

      You don’t have to predrill with pocket holes.

    @Anika’s DIY Life I made a plywood desk and would like to have a smooth finish instead of seeing the grain. I considered covering it all in joint compound the way you did in this video. Has the joint compound held up nicely to this date? No cracking, etc...? Thanks

      Yes. No issues at all! You really sand the joint compound down to the point where it is only filling the gaps in the grain - it will look like white embedded in the plywood.

    I bought your pattern and wonder about the special instructions for plywood you mention? I have all the cuts done now ( the easy part😉) and about to assemble

      Westley Cary 3/4” plywood isn’t really 3/4” thick. So you have to adjust for that. Check #7 in this article www.anikasdiylife.com/pocket-hole-tips-and-tricks/

      Thank you! I found it there shortly after asking!😂 Going together great so far. I did see that 2 1/2" pocket hole screws were used in the instructions but the only screw listed in the materials sheet were 1 1/4 phs. Is that a misprint?

    Anika -- Questions regarding the 2×2 lumber: 1) Nominal size is 2×2 but actual size used on this desk is 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" . Please confirm. 2) What type of wood was used for the 2×2. Looks like a nice quality.

      Thank you for purchasing the plans. That’s right. The actual dimension of the 2x2 is 1.5” x1.5”. I used select pine from Home Depot with nutmeg gel stain.

    Dang Almost bought my wife a vanity table just like this but it was all MDF and they wanted a lot of money for it. Ended up buying a slightly cheaper MDF vanity LOL I should’ve seen this first I would’ve just built it

      The first one is just a miter saw. Its one of the most basic power tools.

      It's a miter saw, circular saw, drill and pocket hole jig. And a circular saw could do what a miter saw does. They are completely beginner tools. If you think a Kreg Jig is not a beginner tool, I would highly recommend looking into it. It will open up your world to building things easily! I have lots of resources on that if you are interested.

      Anika's DIY Li. A kreg jig is over $140. A circular saw does not make accurate 10% cuts. I have tried. U have tools that would take the average person years to get.

    Those are not basic tools, most people have a circular saw and a drill! Many of those tools are expensive
