Suspect Steals SUV and Tries to Get Away by Hitting Parked Cars and Narrowly Missing a Family

Seattle, Washington - On April 1, 2024, just before 7:00 p.m., Seattle police officers were first called to the 2600 block of 11th Avenue East in the Portage Bay neighborhood, after a woman reported her Honda CR-V was stolen from her driveway. The woman worked with police to track her SUV to an alley near the 2200 block of Minor Avenue East in Eastlake. Seattle police carefully arrived to the area, seeing an uninvolved family nearby and the suspect getting in the stolen SUV after spotting officers. The suspect tried to get away, pulling out of a parking space and hitting an empty baby carrier, a police cruiser and two parked cars before coming to a stop on top of one of the cars. He narrowly missed a toddler.
The 36-year-old suspect got out of the stolen SUV and tried to run from Seattle police, but he was tackled to the ground. He continued to resist being arrested and was struck and tased by officers before he was taken into custody. Three officers were injured. During the investigation, police recovered tools used to steal vehicles, drugs, an unloaded 10-round magazine, as well as other items. The suspect is lawfully prohibited from having a gun or parts and accessories. He was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, vehicular assault, hit and run, reckless driving, obstructing a public officer, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm and violation of the uniform controlled substance act. He also had an outstanding warrant. He was taken to the hospital before he was booked in the King County Jail.

It depends on the police department and state in particular. Some state departments allow for uncensored body cam footage to be released to the public, others don’t.

Nah. Cars represent 5 years of payments to get the title. Old clunkers maybe 3 years would be fair, and new cars 5 years would be fair. Also an additional year per each $100,000 a vehicle was worth at the time of theft. I say this because over a 6 year period I've bought 3 totaled Gallardos for around $20,000 each and I'm nearly finished building a Franken-Ghini. The last thing I want to see is some chump crash it because he won't face major consequences.
