Phil Collins is a Musical Genius
A moodical denius.
Ahhhh your a genius... look. To meeee you’re a genius, to O’Malley you’re a genius, but to a genius you’re NO genius...
😍
LOL
That is a fact
When Phil Collins ruled the world
welshhibby still does
@@stewartfan717 i wanted 2 say exactly (!!!) The same... that he rules the world all time long.
When I was a kid, he owned the radio.
Same here in austria.
@@outrun2outnow heyhey from vancouver
One of the most gifted and consistent talents of history, he owned most of the 80's and I listen to his music from then on the regular....love it!
Me too, I love his music
Phil Collins is one of the reasons I’m glad I grew up in the 80s, born in 75 😊
Phil,Genisis, KISS, and Meatloaf, were my jams as a kid.
You know, if you were born anytime after that year, you would still be able to enjoy it and listen to it just as much as you did then.
78 but i love genesis more the classic drummer lead then it was the america has talent and then the bebber!!! i will continue crying
Ditto!😎👍
You was 10 I was 5 years old
Some critics today look back at Phil Collins' 80's work with scorn and disapproval. They hated the era of synthesizers and drum programming. I think he showed what could be done with it by someone with real talent. Between his solo stuff and Genesis, he was on a streak of writing catchy pop tunes not seen since the Beatles 20 years earlier. I host karaoke a couple times a week, and Phil Collins is one of those rare music forces that unites the room, from young and old, from men to women, from white people to black and beyond. If 80's sounds aren't your thing, that's too bad for you, because this guy knew how to entertain the hell out of us.
really? fuck i hate music critics, they always find a way to rip into shit. Some Phil's tracks are easily the greatest tracks of all time (including this). As an 18 year old, I srsly wish they could have clubs that had 80s music in it like this. Would make my night immediately.
Candy Coated Poison Yeah, I had been reading some not-so-flattering stuff about him (the Oasis lead dude said some really stupid stuff about him too) and I just don't get the hate. I just played this song tonight and it wasn't more than 5 seconds into the song and the whole room was going nuts because they identified it together immediately cause they love the song. Some people thought that music got "plastic" in the 80's with the advent of digital technology, which has led us to today's auto-tuned top-40 (which I'm not a fan of) but there's some sweet-sounding stuff from back then, which was a decade with a lot of neat experimentation in it!
Jason Marcel
wow...that plastic comment... i get what they mean but it's ridiculously stupid. What do they want, elvis presley and tom jones esque singers? They're suitable for funerals but cmon...musics all about sounding good, and if it does, its doing its job. People over complicate the simpelist shit.
Candy Coated Poison so damn true bud
totally agree...
Phil Collins was a maniac in 1985! This list has at least 4 or 5 songs of his on it. He was truly a great solo artist as well as his days with Genesis!
No jacket required was without a doubt his most successful record of the 1980s if not his entire career. :)
1985 was a great year in music
In "Don't Lose My Number," struggling director Max Stone, along with his witty screenwriter Riley Parker and resourceful producer Harper Lane, stumbles upon a mysterious envelope that leads them to Tommy, a man on the run from both criminals and corrupt officials. What begins as a search for inspiration for their next movie turns into a thrilling and comedic real-life adventure. Using their filmmaking skills to navigate a series of dangerous and humorous situations, they uncover a conspiracy involving valuable artifacts and corrupt figures. Their chaotic journey is captured on film, ultimately becoming a blockbuster hit that blurs the line between reality and fiction, proving that sometimes the best stories are the ones that happen off-script.
As a teenager through the 80's I always liked Phil Collins' music, but I never considered going to his concerts because I was more drawn to hard rock.
One day suddenly, my older brother was given two free tickets to the Phil Collins concert promoting the "...But Seriously" album....So we went - And it was one of the BEST All-around, entertaining concerts I'd ever attended ! (Maybe second to Def Leppard's Hysteria tour)
Phil's one Fantastic entertainer and always has a phenomenal band ! He has a Great stage presence - singing, musicianship and a sense of humor that is Always present and makes you feel like you're a friend just hanging out !
I would Definitely pay DOUBLE today's ticket price to see that concert again.
My girlfriend dragged me to a Bon Jovi concert in the early 90s and I have to admit that was the best concert I ever went to. They just rocked the place for 2 1/2 hours. Sometimes acts are huge because they deserve to be.
This will always be one of my favorite music videos. It just skewers the genre so perfectly.
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
Feeling those feelings
Same
Another copy paste again
No doubt
That's because...we're getting old sigh
Just one of the reasons that Phil Collins is so great.
he's awesome!
funny video!
This is one of the best songs of Phil Collins, nice song.
Happy belated 71st Birthday 🎂 to Daryl Steurmer

This has always been my favorite Phil Collins song, ever since I was a little kid. I was probably 7 when this song came out. MTV was relatively new and played the hell out of this video. My mother always used to yell at me to turn the TV down. I recorded it off the radio on my cassette deck and wore that out too. I still jam this song at least twice a week now, at 43 years old.
I can't watch the Singles Collection tape anymore--if I go one more time it's sure to break. 😁
Me too I remember my dad pickd up his album same weekend we just got a new vhs and we watched gremlins and bmx bandits and life could not got any better god I miss the 80s
Im 35 and i feel the same
No Jacket Required is in my opinion the best album by Phil Collins.
It's his best selling album by a mile 25m. Most were in the US too, propelled by heavy exposure on MTV. This was probably broadcast 15,000 times.
Dear Phil, your music is one of the major impacts on my life, the other one is Genesis. People called me lightweight or even worse. Anyway I am 44 now and whenever I am shaken or blue i am listen to your tunes. Thank you for that!
That beginning is still PRICELESS!
Everthing comes at a price
Fun fact: the guy with the shades, pitching ideas, was Phil's keyboard player - Peter Robinson.
Of all the songs Phil did as a solo artist this is my #1 favorite, this song doesn't seem to get played to death on the radio stations as the majority of his hit songs
I know, right? Hell, throw me some _Testify_ once in a while to break up the monotony!!
One of the best artist to date in my opinion! Great entertainer!
Most underrated Phil Collins song for sure.
I met this man 1982 as a child. Probably one of my fondest memories. I absolutely love this guy and his music.
No way I was born in 1982 that's amazing I miss the 80's so much thank you Phil Collins for making the 80's a big part of my childhood. Long live the 80's baby. 🥰🥰😁😁💯💯💖💖💖💖

Phil is a legend! More heart and soul in his amazing vocals than 90% of other artist
Phil Collins' music reminds me so much of my childhood. My mom and uncle use to listen to him and I became hooked.
He has got me through life adore him

same, hearing his music always puts me in a good mood and helps me remember good times
So many memories too long ago.
That's why I have a strong liking for 80s music too, my dad had his music playing all the time when I was a kid, so hearing these brings back childhood nostalgia
I love the music by Phil Collins let's not talk about politics or who's in the white house right now or any of that let's just enjoy the music relax and forget about all the stupidity with our country right now
The beach scene is pure gold!
All of the video allusions are clever. As an EJ fan, I love the beach bit.
Fun Fact: The woman that smiles at him was actually his real life wife at the time.
This song is pure gold
The same one who's break up/divorce inspired ''In the Air Tonight''?
@@CallicoJackracham no that was his first wife. This one I think is Jill Collins who is mother of Lily Collins. Although I'm not sure if that is her in the video
The summer of '85. Great time to be alive and this song was constantly on our portable radio/cassette players. This song premiered in July of '85 (Live Aid!) and would hit #4 in September. This and Take Me Home are my favorites from No Jacket Required. The '80's were more than generous to Phil both as a solo artist and with Genesis! Thank goodness to for Sirius XM 80's on 8 when they play songs like this all the time. It never gets old!
I was at Live Aid Philly, and when Phil arrived via helicopter after taking the Concorde from the Wembley show the place went berserk. Great memories.
I wish I lived to see the
Summer of 1985
I had the record single. Played it to death.
I will NEVER dismiss PHIL COLLINS ever again.I completely forgot how great he was in the eighties.in between geneis and his solo stuff,he's the best.
I am from the 90s, but I would vow for 70s and 80s music any day!!! Philip Collins is love !!! Greetings from India :))

Phil make me wish have grown in the 80's :(( THIS is music!
Krawser Krip me too! 😕
Krawser Krip you have no idea how awesome the 80s were, man. Great tv, movies and epic music.
I am glad I didn't live in the 80s the more I learn about events at the time. The cold war at its height, economic troubles, the list goes on!
I for one will NEVER forget it, Im such an asshole about it too. I live on nostalgia so it seems!@
Yeah as opposed to 9/11 and terrorist attcks of this day and age?
Converse sales went through the roof thanks to Phil
I was blessed to see this amazing musician later in my life and twice..God is good❤
Same here 20 years apart exactly at old Wembley 87 with lady diana and 07 in Rome...both were like 300k people. Just Insanity. Never have I walked 16 miles to a concert because that was the closest spot to park
This never gets old!!!!
Phil Collins was truly a man before his time. Proto-hipster in the '70s and such a troll in the '80s. And one of the best drummers in the history of rock.
Great blast from the past. I remember seeing this video all the time over the summer of '85 when yes, MTV was worth watching.

4:33 the best part. Phil would’ve made a good Mr. Wonka
I wore the cassette out in one car, years later still have my CD
I like that even though they covered up Daryl Stuermer's awesome guitar solo with the sandwich bit that Phil made sure to give him a nice name check in the video.
I am proud to say that being a teenager at this time and age (19 yrs. old), I have been blessed with the proper taste in music. How I wish I was born in the early 70's so that I could have lived the 80's and all the wonderful music that flourished at the time. While I do still believe that some music today has quality. Nothing....and I mean nothing will compare to Mr. Collins and that of those musicians of this era. TRUE MUSIC. TRUE LEGENDS. DONT LOSE HIS NUMBER BILLY!
Luis Galarce ...Proper? I'm sure the adults of your gen called it stupid too.
Luis Galarce Good thing music is timeless :) It's like your there when you feel it ya know
^ agreed. Not all music in our time is bad. I'm into some pop, edm, rock, etc. However, these are timeless classics.
2022 and here I am still listening to Phil and still loving his music every bit as much as I always have so thank you Mr Collins for sharing your amazing talent with us all
I’m listening to Phil Collins Don’t You Lose My Number near the end of November 2022
Honestly, Phil is an artistic genius in his own right. Regardless of anybody’s opinions on him and his music, he whipped up a bevy of tunes that to this day continue to entertain his fans a great deal. This song is just one of them.
Just about everything he does musically has turned to gold. What a natural talent gifted by God.
I knew Mr Collins music, but today i have heard this track on the radio for the first time. What a great sounds ! 🙂
Phil Collins is an unsung Great vocalist
Great song, this is my favorite Phil Collins song from his solo career
Without a doubt, one of the funniest & best videos of the 80's. I also luv how Phil & his band re-created "The Road Warrior" (with Phil playing both Max & the bad guy) & other pop artists (The Police, Elton John & The Cars) videos of that time.
One of my favourites from Mr. Collins!
***** Nope, not lonely at all. But thank's for your concern anyhow.
***** unsure what you meant?
+KoolCat ! I thought the beach scene was Elton John when I first saw it, but now I think it was a reference to David Lee Roth's video for "California Girls". I'm also wondering if there are other references that we missed.
+JayTemple Believe it or not, it's both, he used both California Girls and Elton John's I'm Still Standing, though both had the same theme.
This Song Went To Number 4 On The Billboard Hot 100 Chart In 1985.
+Raymond Malcuit Jr. It also hit number 10 in my native Australia but ironically never charted in Collin's native UK.

THANK YOU KING! That has been driving me nuts for years!
I wish I was in the 80s things seemed so much better then today
excluding the pandemic, most things are way better today, being a teenager in the '80s was a lot of fun though
Charles Patrick Don’t lie. Everyone is a snowflake now holding a phone up. Things were more innocent and fun then.
@Julia Lourdes Yes! Smart phones mixed with social media have not been a good combination on society. (People forget that these two could have existed independently of each other.) I still remember the first time I realized someone was accessing Facebook using a smart phone. I was in a bit of shock. That was probably spring of 2010.

Now this is what music video should be all about. Entertaining and a lot of fun while a good song is playing.
This track should have been included in GTA V !!!
Max Musterbeispiel maybe in another open world game similar to GTA

I was born in 2003. And for almost all of my secondary school years, my mom would frequently play this disc of Phil Collins' "Serious Hits... Live!" album, that was recorded during his concert in Berlin in 1990, while driving me to my classes. Between "Something Happened In The Way To Heaven", "In The Air Tonight", "Do You Remember", "Can't Hurry Love", "Sussudio", "Against All Odds", "Easy Lover", "Another Day In Paradise", and this song that was my favorite on the whole disc at the time, this CD alone is the one reason why Phil is my favorite 90's artist. Love that guy.
My favorite Phil Collins song and video
Funny how in the beginning of the video he references The Alamo...Phil Collins is considered one of the world's leading historians' of The Alamo and at one time he held the largest private collection of Alamo artifacts but has since donated most of it to their museum.
Great song and great sandwich.
Phil Collins without a shadow of doubt an absolute LEGEND. Such beautiful music 🎶 never fails to get me singing along, I grew up listening to him and I will forever be a fan.
I don't know how it's even possible, but soft rock music can make me kinda nostalgic for a world I've never been and never seen. It calms down and gives a feeling of infinity of time as if our life is not so short at all. It gives me meaning and desire to keep living through this difficult time
"The Alamo"... first reference from Phil. NOW it makes sense. I visited the Alamo back in 2017 and saw a sword on display that was actually from a large collection that Phil gifted to them a few years back.
Mark Colegrove Yeah Phil is pretty much obsessed with the Alamo. He became interested in it after he watched Davy Crockett as a boy. He makes yearly trips to San Antonio to visit it & even released a coffee table book showing his massive private collection of Alamo artifacts. He also talks about the history. I have a copy of it & it’s a pretty impressive read.
I was there thr same year, too, and saw it.
PHIL'S FACE EXPRESSIONS ARE SO FUNNY

David Lee Roth's version, that is.
Yeah I know, grew up in the 80s, had to take the good like this with the bad like that.
@ReaktorLeak 🤣🤣🤣
I still want to know which girl in the video was Phil's wife at the time. My money's on the girl in the beach scene who they show smiling at him.
"Okay, you're at the beach!" Great tribute to David Lee Roth's California Girls. Also, this is a great video and song. I miss the 80's.
+funnyfokker25 I actually think it's a parody of Elton John's "I'm still standing" video

Cool man
Didn't really listen to his music. But he owned the radio for several years. It's sad to see him the way he is today. Makes me feel old. Hell I am getting old!
Not sure Phil Collins would've been able to be a huge pop star in today's climate, and that speaks to how much modern music prioritizes youth and 'image' over actual substance. Phil Collins, Billy Ocean, Luther Vandross...they were part of the 80's fabric and it's because there was room in the mainstream for more mature sounds even if the sound was still fun.
maybe why the 80's were the best era of music, people cared and loved the artists, weren't a throw away era. Loved Phil Collins since I can remember, was 11 when can't hurry love came out, lead me to genesis and his concert drumming which is other worldly
umm hes not that far off from modern pop
...fuck today's music.
Old man syndrome
I think a lot of that has to do with MTV. When music was mostly listened to by radio, a lot of music fans didn't even know what the artist looked like. It also didn't matter because music was lived, rather than watched. What I mean is, people were more likely to go out to parties, clubs, etc... whereas everyone today is glued to their devices.
I've had the exact same thought myself. You can throw Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Christopher Cross in there too. The music industry used to actually market to adults, as well as teenagers. Remember VH1 in the early 90s? Wonder what that channel is like today. It was kind of going to crap 20 years ago.
You will never be as cool as Phil Collins
love this song Billy don't you lose my number watch this video in high school I'm a big Phil Collins fan
