I like to imagine that after decades of being the cue card guy behind the scenes at 30 Rock, Wally decided during quarantine that he wanted some upward mobility in his career. But he had already reached the top of the ladder in the cue card game, so he met with his manager (the producers? idk) and negotiated himself a recurring role as the loveable cue card man with speaking parts, along with a fat pay raise. And you know what? Good for him.
I get the feeling they never did it before because they were playing it a little more straight before the pandemic but now that the show has become a little more loose Seth is pulling in things from his SNL days. There's a great series of behind the scenes videos under the umbrella title "Creating SNL' and one specifically about Wally and the cue cards. You should check it out. I'm not sure Wally has much time to do anything more these days. Making cue cards looks very stressful and now that more SNL alum have gotten talk shows as well as people like Amber who spun off from those shows that all rely on Wally for their cue cards it's no wonder Wally took his Zoom call from bed. He must be shattered. He used to do cards for Letterman too. Now he has to cover Fallon, Seth, Amber and SNL. He gets the laughs for his little cameos but I don't think most people know just how crucial he is to multiple shows. It's all kind of taken for granted. Maybe that's why Seth brings him out. He won't get the day to day recognition he deserves to keep these shows running smoothly. Sounds like a simple enough job but after seeing the SNL video it's a crazy amount of work which he does over multiple shows. So he won't get applause for his main gig but he does get audience appreciation. If you made it this far thank you for sticking with me as I figured out what I was trying to say and still didn't quite get there. Here's the cue card video. I thought it was fitting that our leaders stood up and applauded Zelensky for his leadership and resolve. I'm pretty sure they did it because none of them would've had the balls themselves to stand up to a bully like Putin... even with all the allied help and military equipment at their disposal.
Let's face it, the average person is a wimp... inclined many of our so-called leaders.
But being on the right side of history has a special force behind it... This is why authoritarian regimes are ultimately doomed.

It's funny how we keep getting reminders of that Ashlee Simpson SNL screw up. I can't forget it because I WAS THERE in the audience that night. The studio went quiet and nothing seemed to happen for a few minutes. From the overhead monitors we could see the live feed was just dead air, just the SNL logo with host Jude Law's photo. Weird night.
Zelensky is a natural born leader. He's inspirational and he leaves all of our leaders in the dust. He deserves the no fly zone, no matter what happens. We should be doing more.

Zelenskyy is proving that Congress CAN agree on something. The Ukrainians struggle is yet another fight to save democracy. To stand by Ukraine and then vote for legislation that guts democratic rule is very telling.

Zelenskyy’s speech genuinely made me cry. The amount of carnage that country has seen… it’s heartbreaking.
Edit: Jesus Christ some of y’all need to chill. It doesn’t matter what a person’s skin color is. The fact of the matter is thousands of innocent people are being slaughtered. Zelenskyy wasn’t being manipulative. He was showing just how bad things have gotten. Did he show that video in the hopes it would spur NATO and the US into implementing a no fly zone? Obviously. However, he’s smart enough to know that likely wasn’t going to happen. Which is why he presented the alternative of simply being given the equipment needed to defend their skies. By asking for something unattainable, then asking for something reasonable, he ensured his receiving the reasonable request. Like it or not, war is just as much a mental game as it is a physical one. I refuse to believe none of you would use manipulative methods in order to ensure the survival and independence of your people.

He wants our American soldiers to die in their airspace and on their Ukrainian soil. That’s what he’s asking for and that’s what will start World War III. That’s not peace. I know all ACL can’t always be very long, but anytime you can give us a good 12-15 minutes or so, that would be great. It is by far my favorite segment and along with my puppy, essential to saving what shreds of sanity that I still have.
