like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, czcams.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

Great example, of how irritating these devices can be, or rather how irritating the users of these devices can be, when installing them in a home if everybody is not on board with this new invasive technology. As I learned when I brought one home a few months back, annoying my family with this listening device.

To end a call on Google Home Mini, you tap and hold one of the two sides. On the standard Google Home speaker it's just a tap on top of it.
Furthermore, you don't have to wait for the LEDs and sound after you say "Hey Google". You can just talk to it like you would to a person, disregarding the delay. Google Home will understand what you're saying just fine.

I purchased both just because $29 each only have the mini so far and it is wonderful.
I really love mine it’s great. Alarms work well, same with reminders. My family mainly use it to cast things to the chromecast, which helps because we can accidentally choose the wrong device since we have 4 of them in the house.
Can I ask if the device has to be plugged in to use?? I want to use it in my room whilst plugged in, but I also want to take it outside with me to use as a speaker for when I'm outside my patio to listen to music.

I bought 10 of them. My house is 3500 square feet. It's great playing music throughout the house.
I paired them with Hue, Nest, Wemo, Roomba, and tv.
But, with all that, cable wifi really slow down. So I upgraded to 1gig internet speed and bought 3 Google wifi. Everything works great.
I also changed the Google wake up command to "hey Ghoul" or "Ok Ghoul"
i have trouble with wake up command.....i say hi google and it does nothing, I want to make my own wake up command thanks for mentioning!

Thanks for actually covering HOW one of these can be useful. Most of these videos don’t begin to explain WHY you may actually want one. I’m still not sure it has enough features to be much more than an occasional novelty use for me, but this was the first video that tried to show how it may actually have potential for everyday use.

Can you use Google Home mini as a microphone? For example to record meetings, or to dictate into Google Docs?
Everyone who has one of these I suggest you plug your device into a smart outlet. The reason is, you can set your smart outlet to only turn on during times you need your Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you don't do this, your device will constantly use your bandwidth and at the end of your billing cycle, you might use up all of your data with whomever you have your internet through. This happened to me twice and when I researched this, this is a common problem. Mine only turns on for 15 minutes before I go to work and for a few hours after I get off. On weekends I keep it on a bit longer but also your Google Chromecast dongle should be plugged into a separate smart outlet. Just something to think about in another video.

Using the Google home mini for alarms is super convenient however there are a few shortcomings that I hope Google can resolve in a future update.
1. If there is a power outage it would be nice if there was a back up alarm run on a paired phone so you aren't running late for whatever you've got going on. This is one key feature that makes me not trust the Google Home Alarms as you never know when a power outage will hit.
2. If you set alarms for specific dates e.g. 7:30 a.m. on the 13th of December and 7:30 a.m. on the 14th of December, when you go in the Google home app to see what alarms you have it just shows up as two alarms for 7:30 a.m. It should display which date these alarms are set for if they are a specific date.
3. It would be nice if you could actually create alarms in the Google home app as well.
I've sent my feedback to Google and if you agree I'd encourage you to send feedback as well, the more people that request it the more likely that Google will implement it! 😁

I purchased the google mini and got a Tp wifi link with it.I set the link up to the tv lamp so I could either turn it on/of via google mini voice activation or via my Android mobile.I have wifi at home but no phone.I was messing around with my phone at the local shops which is 5 kilometres away and for some reason opened the Tp link app.I was pressing the on/off several times just curious to what may happen and sure enough when I got home the Wife said that the wifi link was faulty as the light was turning on and of while she was sitting watching the box.Anyhow I have no idea how that works but am going to purchase some more.

The Google Home Mini actually has a pretty good speaker. It can get louder than some of the speakers at the same price. I got it on sale for $27 at best buy and it definitely is worth. The only MAJOR flaw is that it has to be plugged in to work.
$27 whoa, that's cheap. Pity everything is so much more expensive in New Zealand. I bought an echo dot in Feb this year shortly after their release here, cost $89. By the way, echo also has to be plugged in to power to work, but I don't imagine it's stand-by current draw is very much as it's only a 5v usb charger/power adapter.

I'm getting my grandparents a few of these. I bought myself and my mother each one as a cool little toy to play with. She brought up the point that these smart speakers can improve the quality of life for some people. Finding out about the weather is very helpful as well as finding the phone feature. And if paired with smart lights and door locks, that can be a lifesaver for people with disabilities or have less mobility. That can help to reduce with accidents that happen at night by being able to turn the lights on and off. And if they do have an accident but don't have their phone on them, they can call someone on their contact list to get help instead of waiting who knows how long you be found.
