- Anker's Roav Bolt allows you to more easily access Google Assistant from the car. You can make calls, send messages, navigate the road, set reminders/calendar events, play music and much more!
In this video I walk through the setup process. It is required that your car has an AUX input or Bluetooth already in the car. I do show how you can use the device with an FM Transmitter as well.

Love the roundabout way you got it working. Sounds like something I'd do
Finally finally I'm a truck driver I've been needing this forever I have to physically touch my phone to get Google Assistant to work now I can use my voice
You can use your voice to open Google account on your phone
Pro-tip: I use routines to shorten any "Ask X to Y" commands. In example of your garage, new routine so when you say "Close my garage" google assistant does "ask my q to close my garage" (or however its actually spelled)
Fart on aux
Thanks for bleeping out out the google commands! lol
Still activated my GA 😭😭
Lol I have a Fire tablet with alexa and echo dot

Wait... a guy named “Tech with Brett” drives a car without Bluetooth?! I smell a new car video coming soon...
I am sure that his car has Bluetooth. He said that it does have a place for an aux cable to plug in. This device connects to the phone via Bluetooth but uses an aux cable to connect to the car.
@@SmartHomeButler Actually the Aux cable it in an FM transmitter
Michael Gauthreaux that is what I meant. Oops
Haha! Because I have so much tech in the house I have not been able to afford a tech car. But yes there are plans for that in the future...
@@TechWithBrett TESLA TIME!
This looks pretty sweet! It can be frustrating using Google Assistant in my car even though my phone sits directly infront of me so anything that helps is a winner
I've had the Roav Bolt for almost a year now and honestly I like it. I travel for work and it's made things easier for me on the road.
Azan room googled and found Badwords ashi in lig
Yes
I have had mine for about a week. I have enjoyed so far. This device is so much better than google auto, I know I've used both. The sound may be a little weaker than if your phone was plugged directly in.
Wow, I’ve been looking for something like this!
Game changer. Thanks, Bret.

This is dope! Will need to check this out 👍 Thanks man
I decided I would not get this, thought it would be useless... until your review. Now I want to pick one up and try it out, thanks for the help.
Man TY, this vid is right on time. I purchased the Garmin Speak & I love the device itself, but after a week of testing, and being sent out of the state when asking to navigate home, or getting directions to a business named after any word I spoke, I was going to return it today!!
While I don't want to use Googles Eco System in my car and I LOVE the GARMIN & ALEXA paring even tho it only works with Apple devices, this takes me back to my original thoughts of just needing a better mic connection between my devices. Great to know it's not just MY system.
I have been using the Bluetooth fm transmitter as that was my first purchase, I have a van and was able to plug it into the back of my vehicle, use a USB extention cable and run whichever device back to the front, or now use the double USB & Car Charger cup holder I found on sale for 10 bucks at Autozone. I can now plug the FM trnsmttr into the one CC port and my camera or other devices into the other or either of the USB ports. This also now gave me 6 to 8 varied ports to use...lol.. yet I still could not get my Garmin Speak to hear me over the wind and traffic noices etc.
I saw a vid from Pixels Cracked where he was setting up an Infotainment System and used a FM tranmttr with a mic on it and I am wondering if you've tried this as it seems it would be a much more reasonably priced device, and if so, maybe you could do a vid on this because every single vid I've seen on the GS, Roav, and other Alexa enabled devices have spoken of the exact same problems. SO LET'S GET TO THE NITTY GRITTY OF THIS ISSUE as I think Amazon is delaying the Amazon Auto until it is figured out and we spend quite a bit of money otherwise. I'm going out to test some mics myself today and will be checking back with you
Exceptional video ! ! Incredibly informative and helpful ! This is the product I’ve been hoping for, and your video demonstrates its use perfectly. THANKS !
Best review! This is what I need in my car 🙌🏾
Love the review, this was the first and really only video about it. Thank you, awesome work.
Brett you find you're way round everythin....our content is a real eye opener.
That's the goal! Thanks for watching!
This is such a good solution to a lot of problems I have in the car (mostly it not hearing me)
This looks like a really cool product man. Thanks for showing it off.
Your work-around setup reminds me of the ancient hands-free device I made back in the day of cassette players. I cut the plug end of an old wired headset with the tip for both the mic input and the headphone output and spliced on a small corded mike and one of those cassette shaped converters you could plug a portable CD payer into to play through the cassette player on your radio. Sadly they've all done away with the headphone jack on all but a cheap Motorola model I think. And even then the last few that still existed I think only had audio out and no mic input.
I've had one of these for a few months and works really well with my 12 year old Ford Territory (Australia) and compares well with my much newer built in Android Auto Ford Sync 3 equipped Ford Escape. Apart from the screen of course. I love it and makes my older car feel up to date and agree with Brett, is something I've wanted for years. Thanks for the review Brett, awesome as always.
I have "ok Google" turned off on my phone because I use the speakers at home and want the speakers to repond and not my phone. If you have the hot word turned off can you still use the button on the Anker to activate the assistant? I don't want to have to turn on and off the hot word detection on my phone when I get in and out of the car.

As I’ve seen in the video, It worked perfectly fine.
I noticed it works better than Siri on the AirPods, mainly to read and send messages.
This device deserves a 10 score
Great review!
Also, you the real MvP for blocking out the trigger words :)
I suffer through it during my editing so you don't have to!
@@TechWithBrett well, know this, it's very much appreciated!
Does it need to have an aux cord connected in order to work or can it work without the aux connected
Has 170k subs. Does not have bluetooth or aux in his car. And a broken windshield. Damn the youtube money really is bad nowadays.
OT: I have the same issue with my phone not activating assistant. But $49 is a bit much.
I know the google home mini is always on sale somewhere, this could be too.

@@mahthiamlirw2628 what
have you considered reviewing different android auto car radio replacements?
Really good in general. It excelled in 2 areas. First it showed the most difficult installation (instead of the easiest) & second he didn't say "Hey Google" 10,000 times ;)
Exclant review, I know there was something out there i could use. Just like in your car. Thanks for the review, i am in the process of getting one as soon as i finish here. And I know some other people that will get excited about this also. So I will be sharing this video with them..Until next time, Bret.
Thanks for the shares and glad you found this helpful!
Definitely
Loved the video! keep up the great work your doing.
Brett, have you run into a problem setting up speaker group in Google Home, when you have a chrome cast built-in and two google mini speakers?
Nice video! By the way I live in Riverton, and work downtown. Enjoyed your videos in the past subscribed now.
great video. I've wondering about this product.
I have 2 of them one in a 2018 Tesla Model X and one in a 2011 MB E350 convertible. Both have Bluetooth and both cars are so much better with this device. Bolt is awesome. I wish my google home in my bathroom worked as well. Roav works seamlessly with AppleMusic and it reads my texts. I don’t understand why I’m in the shower and I can’t get google home to do either of those on its own. Best Buy has them on sale for $40. If you are the fence buy it you will love it!
So you need to have your stereo always on AUX for it to work? If you are listening to Radio or CD, it work work?
Super helpful video! Thank you!
Hey Brett, I purchased this right away after watching your review, but I have a hard time pairing this to IPhone XS. Do you think it has to do with the firmware? Also time to time, there would be delay in response and sometimes it would not reply at all.
Thanks for the review .
Hi Brett, did you ever tried the ismartgate? (Smart Garage Opener , compatible witj Apple Homekit and Google Assistnt)
Thank you, best review I have seen for the Bolt. Having the same issue of my phone not being able to hear my commands, sometimes even after yelling them. I also still wanted to be able to use my car speakers for output from Bluetooth which other reviews never seemed to mention. You answered every single question I had. I honestly just wanted a better mic, but the some of the other added features come in handy as well. Will be picking one up soon, would be sooner if Amazon carried it.
Just got one, how do you increase the assistant volume separate from music volume?
You can also just buy the Roav Smartcharge F0/2/3 etc. and install Android Auto on your phone - changed my driving life when I tried this!
So you don't need this device if you just use the FM transmitter you mentioned? My mom's car doesn't have Bluetooth or an aux connection.
@@angiehc77 correct, the roav devices which are better value put out a variable FM signal which your radio will pick up so you can pass audio to your car stereo
The uses of smart assistants is so limited unless it's totally integrated into your car - if you done have Bluetooth like me, you also don't have that tech in your car ;)
@@Ib_h7 my mom wants to use it for calls while driving. It would not only have to be a transmitter, but a speaker and mic. So would she still need the Roav Google as well?
I just purchased Roav Bolt thank you for all you information you very helpful I read the reviews I have a iPhone and I kept saying that I can’t use it with the iPhone but I have to do is download the Google assistant there’s some things that I can’t use with this but there’s a lot of things I can thank you yes and a lot of my questions
The FM transmitter is a good idea, because it you are playing music with the car radio it will interrupt it. I will do this, such a good idea
good day.
I have a question about this product. Suppose you listen to the radio, and the navigation on your phone means something. Is the sound of the radio muted or something? Thanks in advance.
Is it possible to make this use the Hands Free Profile (HFP) Bluetooth protocol for prompts?
Just because I prefer to listen to the radio in my car and Android doesn't use HFP except for calls so you can't output navigation directions etc to your car speakers unless if your bluetooth device is selected as the media input. Oh and the stream of the radio station I like is really bad quality so can't even do that
Does roav bolt fix the audio delay BT in my toyota corolla? I have this 1-2 sec delay on my audio on google maps, youtube, music etc. because when I drive I normally rely on google maps turn by turn voice.
Thank you, Best review
Hi Brett,
I have the Roav Bolt in my car for about 3 years now. I suddenly noticed that in order for me to hear the assistant response, i have to press the Bluetooth icon on my android OS Radio. I never had to do that in the past. it would automatically pause the radio and switched to the assistant audio.
You might be wondering why am I using the Roav Both when I have the Android radio, but i find it more useful, the Google Assistant hears me better and it is much louder and responsive.
Should I be paring the Roav Bolt directly with the Assistant on the head unit or with the Assistant on my phone?
I absolutely love this Thing!! I can't get Android auto on my car and this is the perfect solution out there. Little buggy but livable and it can only get better. Downside of using the auxiliary connection is, music content (album cover, artist and titles) won't show up on your infotainment screen. I recommend using Bluetooth for everything. Killer in car product I must say.
I ended up trying out Bluetooth and my audio quality was much better with my FM transmitter. Thanks for the honest review!
@TechWithBrett really good to me as a pill container as it wouldn't fit any of my prescribed meds either of you
Nice & cool...great review...
Thank you Brett
Hi there, i realise when u ask make a google request, you video seems to skip (edited). May i know is there a bad delay of 3-5 secs for google to response to the request? There is alot of delay on ios reported by users in their forum, so was wondering if android is also as bad. Thx there!
I'm sold. Been having issues I'm the car a month or so after I got my S9
My phone still went off when you said ok google
Great video Brett. Down the line can you compare the Roav to the Echo Auto. Thanks
I'll add it to the list of things to do!
Do you always need to be on auxiliary in order for this to work? For example, I listen to a lot of am radio so would I always need to switch from am to auxillary?
Yes, you will need to switch back and forth between the two. You can also see if that station is available through the Google Assistant and play it on your stereo that way.
@@TechWithBrett Thank you! Great video as always.
@@TechWithBrett Yeah, but that would mean streaming and burning through your data plan :-(
Dude...This...is...MONEY!! I'm curious the pros and cons of this device vs the new Android Auto thing Google is coming out with for devices. Thanks for the review Brett! As a side note, we need to catch up and do lunch or something..it has been too long. Let me know!
That is a great question. I believe this will still be useful to have better voice detection but I might have to do a re-review once that is available. We totally should, just let me know...
When using it through hooked up to your car Bluetooth does it use the mic off the ROV bolt or uses the mic on your car stereo ?
It uses the mic on the Car stereo for the Audio call from what I have noticed.
Does it hiss when it's in idle like when you charge a phone and use aux?
Can u tell me what kind of phone cradle for your car u have plz I would really appreciate it looks pretty cool
"i'm going to do a review.... but i don't actually have the equipment to do the review."
Hey
Lol 😂
Hi, great video, is it possible to work with more than one phone? meaning, my wife can enter the car and also use this?
So, if I had this connected to my car via bluetooth, then had my phone connected to it via bluetooth, would my phone have to connect to the car as well to play music or would the anker play the music?
If you ask it to play CZcams, will it play on your connected Android phone?
Hi Brett, do you know if this device will be on Spanish, and also on the nest hub?
Also if this device will have multiuser or only one user capabilities?
Nice video and greetings from Costa Rica
Great question. Spanish is now available for Google Assistant so it will work on this this device. It does not work with multi-users. You would need to reset it and pair it each time you switch users.
hi i have a question i connect my roav bolt to my phone but he doesnt hear me just music play
Long tap and say, "Dude! Where's my car?!!!"
Yes
Any options for google home in the car but a 3.0 chargin capable or better? Thnx in advanced! 🙏
If you have another outlet you make need to get a separate adapter.
very nice show When I leave my car, the viva blue light still continues to stay on. Will this drain my battery?
When I come back the next day, I still see the blue light on is this normal?
I think $49 is a little bit high $30-35 would be a more fitting price
At least it's down to $40 now
Yes I absolutely Agree

Hi Brett this isn't yet available in UAE
We search in all stores they are not selling online also...for uae...
This is great my husband and me were looking for something exciting like this for our car as we are enjoying Nest mini we just brought for our home
When is this available in the UK
Your review is AWESOME as always. Keep up the great work. By the way, I can’t stop watching your videos.
Much appreciated! I'll keep them coming!
Good thing you reviewed it. I needed one.
My car's Bluetooth is so old, although I keep a stable connection, whenever I receive a call it rejects it straight away.
I see this as a possible solution to my problem as it seems this acts as a 'bridge' between the two.
Does it go into pairing mode when you leave your car with your phone or do you unplug it?
Thanks for the great review.
I think its waiting for your phone to connect
It just turns off with the car. It will only go into pairing mode when you hold down the Google Assistant button for 12 seconds.
They should make the charger plug and the mic/button two different pieces connected by a chord that you can hang on your air vent, not everyone has a car port in arms reach.
This device looks very interesting, though!
You talked me into buying another new gadget. I love it, with one exception. Using the RoavBolt, I can't get it to recognize and use a routine I like. However, when I try to use the same routine, talking straight into the phone it works just fine. Am I doing something wrong or is it not designed to work with routines? Thank you.
Sorry about that Paul. Does it give you an error? It should work the same way interacting with Google Assistant anywhere else should. I'll see if I can find out more details.
@@TechWithBrett No Error that I can see. The command is "play 980," which should take me to a local AM radio station. On my home units and when I talk directly into the phone it works perfectly. When I use the Roav Bolt it beeps loudly and connects me to my CZcams music and plays songs I'm not familiar with. Thanks.
Does google maps also work for iphone?
What's the use-case? Google assistant on my phone bluetoothed to my car works perfectly without this?
What FM Transmitter do you recommend? The Scosche I've been using sounds awful. Also, can u use the bolt to connect via Bluetooth to the FM transmitter instead of via aux or do you recommend aux?
The KM24 has worked well for me: czcams.com/video/btrKav53G4I/video.html
When I was connected to it through AUX I did have a constant humming coming through the stereo. I recently just paired the Roav Bolt completely through Bluetooth and the hum is completely gone and has been working great! The only issues is phone calls are routed to the KM24 and it doesn't hear me since it is in my center console box.
How did you manage to pair the Bolt to the FM transmitter?
LOVE IT!
How did you get it to work with a FM transmitter
Does the Bluetooth lag from your phone to the bolt? Esp when maps are announcing directions.
No it doesn't. Even when I was parked and watched a video I had no issues.
This is awesome!
If they cant make it simple most people will look away. As you described its quite troublesome. Thanks for sharing anyway; the concept is very interesting.
Thanks for sharing a option to have Google assistant in the car. 👍🏻

A little late to this. If your head unit supports bluetooth, all you need is to install Android Auto on your phone and have it auto launch when bluetooth is connected.
How do you go to tutorials to google assistant help for learn what lights mean on roav bolt?
It has now been a little over 3 months since you made this video. Do you know if you are now able use youtube music? Thanks for the video.

No one has ever let me know....well i finally bought one of my own. And yes it does work with youtube music. Thanks.
Sorry I missed your reply! The issue I was having was fixed. Thanks for letting everyone know.
lol, what a setup. :D
Aha! My google assist never works in my car on my cell. Lol. I thought I was doing something wrong. ANOTHER google gadget I need. If you are playing music through pandora and you have your navigation on as well, will it still read your turns and directions, etc over the music?
Hi Breett nice video like always.
I have a suggestion, can you testing google home mini in the car and whether it has the same functions as a bolt, tnx.
I have in the past and the hardest part is you need a dedicated internet connection. I setup my Hotspot and after 1 day of just listening to music it used 1GB of data. I definitely recommend using the Bolt over a Google Home Mini.
If i use the google assistant of my phone connected to my car bluetooth, i dont need that , is that right??
A tech channel with a car without Bluetooth
Question: Does this device link to Spotify accounts?
If I unplug it do I need to repair it everytime? If I bought two and paired two different device one for each can I unplug it everytime and it stay paired.
You won't need to, it will stay paired and will keep the memory so you could switch between the two in one car. That is actually a really brilliant idea.
Does it work well with Android auto on the phone?
Can it answer or tell notification about social apps like whatsapp or others?
Like the Hondas in y'all's garage 😉. Do y'all still have both? We have a 2004 Accord but I've been eyeing the 06-08 Pilot
