  • All of the lines are 10lb test and those included are PowerPro, Daiwa J-Braid x8 Grand, and Fins.
    We tested these lines a while back when they were brand new off of the spool.
    But now we’re testing their castability after hours of on-the-water use.

    You introduced me to J-Braid. I hadn't heard much about them prior. You could add PowerPro Super Slick V2 on the next go-around. Ever thought of a reel casting distance contest? Same line, same rod, different reel of the same size? That could be fun.

      I did a prior test of PowerPro SuperSlick vs. original PowerPro a while back, and the original PowerPro won. Details here: www.saltstrong.com/articles/powerpro-super-slick-vs-original/

    Yes power pro Maxcuatro is all I use. Would be interested to see breaking strength and castability on that. It is supposedly 25% thinner.

    I’d love to see you do an ‘apples to apples’ comparison of braided lines… test the 4-carrier lines with each other, the 8-carrier lines with other and then compare the two winners from each category.

      They already did a casting test comparing 4 strand vs 8 strand power pro and the 4 strand power pro cast like 8 or 10 feet further. Personally what I'd like to see would be a 3 way casting test between the regular j braid, the 8 strand j braid, and the 8 grand.

    Enjoy your experiments or field tests. Would really like to see one on "microwave guides." As I understand the rods with the guide is suppose to cast further.

      I did a test on PowerPro SuperSlick v2 against normal PowerPro in a prior test, and the regular PowerPro won. Details from that test are here: www.saltstrong.com/articles/powerpro-super-slick-vs-original/

      @@Saltstrong that’s crazy that their 4 carrier outcast their 8 carrier. I bet it can’t beat their Maxcuatro. Around the same strength but much thinner. Although I like a 8 carrier braid because it doesn’t transmit as much line guide noise to the bait.

      @@rmorris75252 SSv2 is what I use on everything except my heavy grass rods. Maxcuatro for that because it cuts vegetation better. Thinner to cut and 4 carrier is rougher like a saw.

    I made a HUGE mistake prior to joining the Salt Strong Community when it came to purchasing new fishing gear last year, (I spent THOU$AND of $'s on purchasing new gear, and took great advantage of the members discounts within the Salt Strong Tackle Store too). Back in the 1970's when I used to fish as a young boy, I was always told to buy the strongest and heaviest lines to provide a secondary protection for the strength of the rod. We didn't have braid lines back then, so when I purchased new rods, and 5 or 6 new reels, I went with 30lb Braids, 40lb Braids, and even 50lb braid lines. I CAN'T go out on boats to do deep sea fishing, so I'm fishing banks. There is NO WAY I'm going to reel in a 50lb+ red fish LOLOL, let's be honest, LOLOL. But serious question. Is there such a distance difference in the poundage of the lines used, when casting with let's say a Power Prawn lure with a eight oz helix hook?
    I'll happily this comment within the Community if it'll help 👍

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  Před rokem +1

      Yes, there is a very big difference in casting performance from using a 10 lb braid vs. using a 20+ lb braid for those of us who use spinning tackle. Here's an experiment showing a test of 10 lb braid vs. 20 lb braid all else being equal: www.saltstrong.com/articles/casting-distance-experiment-10-vs-20-braid/

      @@Saltstrong BIG Thank You for this reply, and to our members within the Salt Strong Community too. Orders for 3 new line replacement reels of 10lb Braids, and one of 15lb. Again, thank you very much. The link to the casting video you provided proof that bigger lines don't mean anything in casting distances, which to me was a surprise 👍

    Theres no point in doing this if you don't measure the diameters.
