I read a comment where the person stated that they wanted to move to Ghana but because of corruption they've changed their mind. My question is that is there any country that Is corruption free? It so which country is it? Listen here in my opinion, every single country has some form of corruption, what you need to do is be wise, do your research have documentation on every transactions you've made with the other person, also make it legal through the court system, don't do side deals with no one. By doing so, you will not be taking advantage off.

No but there are countries that only function on corruption and they are all in Africa. That’s why the only jobs are for business executives. Show me where an entire village in Africa can go to work every day and support a family. 3/4 of our motherland don’t have running water and flushing toilets. They don’t have sewer systems to take waist away. Western countries and very North Africa has that but sub-Saharan is as advanced as the Old Testament

Many other countries had wars and invasions as well and they still moved forward. I am ashamed to say we use that as an excuse because the corrupt want us to believe it because it keeps the corruption to continue without having to answer for it and the people have nothing to show for it. Maybe electricity one day maybe not the next still in 2023

I had a nightmare time in Ghana, including three attempts on my life, after completing the building of a property in Accra. I’d been visiting Ghana since 1998. People thought I had money and decided the best way forward would be to kill me. I am also of Jamaican birth living in London. I left Ghana and those who tried to harm me moved into my property. It was a very protracted process, but after about 3 years of trying to find an honest Ghanaian lawyer to fight my case, I got my day in court. It took 8 years, but I got my property back and sold it at a massive loss to an Englishman. I’ve travelled all over Africa, but I will never again invest a penny anywhere on the continent, as there appears to be no infrastructure to support diaspora peoples trying to settle there. I can’t believe this is still happening to people. So wrong! I lost around £60k but I’m alive and well and continue to travel the world.

Wow! I am sorry that this happened to you. You were fortunate to left out with your life. In May,2015, there were two African American elderly sisters who repatriated to Ghana from Detroit,United States. They legally purchased land for to have their home built . There were some Ghanaian villagers who were jealous of the sisters and didn’t want them to live there. They wanted their land but the sisters fought hard as they could to stay there , won their case in court and keep their land. One day,two male Ghanaian villagers attacked and murdered the sisters. The men had poisoned their dogs prior to killing the sisters.Jeanette Salters was 75 and her sister was 60. They loved Africa and was hoping for to live the rest of their lives there.Your experience sounded similar to the sisters.

One of the programmes I mourn for, is Kwame Nkrumah's MASS EDUCATION PRIGRAMME.
In the 1950s and 60s, important information was shared with the general public. Today, with all the radio and television stations, public education should be a lot easier.
When people do not understand or teach our history, they will not truly welcome our brothers and sisters who are returning home after so many hundreds of years.
We should NOT see them as strangers but as our own family returning home.
Sadly, honesty and integrity are lacking in some people, but let us continue to push through.

The lesson I have had after living 9 years and 5 months is Angola is that we have to stop seeing Africa as a paradise!!! First of all, you have to be sure about the country and city or even the neighborhood you are going to live in. Lessons to learn from this lady’s story: Never pay money to any Real estate developer when you have not seen the house completed in Ghana. You have to go and see the house as completed and have a walk through then get a real estate lawyer to go through all the paper work and explain it to you before you make payment. When it comes to the payments, never give them all the amount . Ask for a payment plan. There were a lot of mistakes this lady made by trusting the UK office . Hello brothers and sisters! This video is a very good channel to show how real Africa works...I myself am a Afro-Brazilian who decided to start a new life in Angola (also an official Portuguese speaking country like mine) and I got frustrated when I realized that corruption is the norm when it comes to business over there. The best way for you to do trustful business in Africa is through trustable people you have already known on the ground because the companies in the private sector are involved in corruption with connections to people that represent the law and order. Maybe I am being not fair to the entire Africa because I donÂŽt know all the 54 countries of the continent, but I have some experience on Angola, particularly on its capital city, Luanda. I came back to Brazil and I am still interested in living in Angola, but if I go back there again, my mindset will be completely different of the former one, when I was too romantic about living in Africa.

I've know people to have just gone on a simple holiday and then telling you they've bought land for ÂŁ3000 from some village chief, and when I criticise the move they start talking about my negative energy. Plus just like Gambia, a new government can come in and tell you that you no longer own your property. I don't now why people think buying land is so free of problems in the US,Uk etc. If you don't follow proper procedures in buying land anywhere in the world more than likely you will get scammed. Even with proper procedures you can still get beaten out of your land or home in the US. In Pennsylvania someone offered to sell my family land that he did not own. In another situation someone I know thought they had bought 100 acres of land. What they didn't know was that 30 acres were ensconced in other's land without any access to it. So they really had 70 acres. I know of another situation in which a mortgage company failed to pay the bank the full mortgage even though the owners paid in full. Soon 50% of the property was auctioned off because property taxes were not paid. The owners assumed the bank was paying the taxes. It was only pure luck that the owners found out four years later that they no longer owned 50% of their property. If five years had gone buy they would not have had any way to get their and back. I recall another case in which the nw owner was given the wrong place to send his payments. If her had not caught it he would have lost his land even though remade all his payments on time. All of this happened in the US.

From my experience with Ghanaian developers, most of them try to complete their buildings within 24 months. Some stay within this time line but as I said, provision should be made in the contract signed. They may omit it just so they have that freedom but it's up to the buyer to insist. One thing buyers don't know is that they can edit the contract agreement where needed. If they would not budge then move to another developer.

Black people (or any other group) in America are not systematically running land and real estate scams on one another here. Nor is any other group. In those infrequent instances where anyone tries to defraud you, we have systems in place to hold people accountable. Judges are not in bed with local officials. In general, we do not detect a foreign accent and then proceed to take advantage of people based on that accent. When have you heard of a Black American selling an African immigrant land under fraudulent circumstances, and if he or she did, not being held to account?
What happens to African Americans in Ghana and Africa, is part of a cultural mindset, cultural practices. Even with the issues we have among one another in America, this is not one of them.

If they feel no especial sense of responsibility or loyalty to their black customers, then I may as well buy from an Arab, Indian or Chinese. I know COVID and it's impact on the supply chain has devestated many developers (a good reason why Ghana needs to manufacture more of the things it needs) but, as someone said, it's not an excuse for the lack of transparency and honesty. This company could show good faith to their customers by upgrading fixtures and fittings for free, for example. It would be a nice way of saying sorry for the delays and BS.

This is very sad, and I can identify with her in so many ways, because I too was born in UK, and I might be a little bit older than her, but I am from that generation. We were brought up in a UK where even though the white people didn't' particularly like us, if you signed upon the dotted line, and were given expectations or a contract, things were done decently, in order, on time, and all above board. So she took a lot of things at face value, she went into her Home purchase in good faith. She expected that within reasons things would be done as they said they would be done, it is not unusual for there to be delays in a Building project, but usually you are going to be given accurate explanations, restitution and compensation when necessary. She had every right to back out of the Contract. I don't know if things have changed in the UK, but just a general observation of her character leads me to believe that she is a person of her word. It's bad enough when White people betray us and rip us off, but when it's your own Black people, it hurts especially hard. I am sorry she experienced this, and while this may be common in Ghana, I still chose to believe that it is not a hard fast rule, I believe that there are many people in Ghana who conduct their business with integrity, and professionalism. Perhaps she should have gotten more information about who she was dealing with, prior to making a financial commitment, but I doubt if there would have been much difference. There are two kinds of people in this world, there are the givers and the takers, my dear Sister, was taken., and the Takers can usually spot a giver a thousand miles away.

Thank you for being honest about your people so many blacks in the diaspora like to portray their countrymen as better or more moral than blacks of other countries. You are very rare. Plus with the internet it is easy to find out the truth about every country the blacks live. So some can no longer portray the holier than thou attitude, God bless you! Until blacks of the diaspora are honest about the dirt. We will never be clean.

There ‘s corruption in real estate wherever you go but the extent of the corruption differs, especially when the lawyers representing you are in league with the courts and the builders to milk you dry and you have no recourse. Africa is on another level where that is concerned, and you have no legal system to turn to because they too want their slice of the pie. Craaaazy!!

Same stories in Haiti 🇭đŸ‡č. It’s sad because so many people want to invest in their home country but there is so much corruption on every level. It’s not the US where you can take them to court even the police and judges don’t care about you; you live and learn. God bless this woman and may she receive seven folds.

They want 300k for houses etc. It makes no sense. A judge even tried to kill a man to steal his house. Sometimes just enjoy where you are, because some people want to live amongst nature and their people, but it's not possible

Ghanaians got to understand that integrity is a good currency.
So much dishonesty permeates in every fabric of the society despite Ghana being a great place to live.

This lady is very realistic. That she could admit that she met some nice people and got support from them. Is just unfortunate that she fell in the hands of wrong people. And wrong people are everywhere upon the face of the earth.
    Let's all watch out

Now, for those oxymorons that keep forgetting why some of us in the diaspora are very hesitant to make the move back or invest in various countries in Africa. There is the answer to your questions. This is not unique to Ghana only. Take the smiles and friendliness at face value. Keep your eyes pilled.

This is a ridiculous argument. If you don't want to go to Africa just say it, plain and simple. Don't look for excuses. You speak like there is absolutely nobody you can rely. Are you going to tell us that nobody from the diaspora bought land or house in Ghana or Africa ? Are they geniuses or special? I can already tell you have a weak mindset, so no need to ask you if you tried to get in touch with other investors so that they can help you do the same, which is what people usually do if they are real about it. They don't come here and make weak arguments like the one you wrote.

Thank you for your two cents worth. Weak mindset. I don't think so, mate. I am off to my Home country in February to see family and work on my projects and create employment.
My statements are based on personal experience. Not some mere speculation. I don't need to go into detail or have a go at my family in a public space.
People shouldn't be so comfortable with the idea of under-delivering and lying and cheating as a way of life. There is no excuse for it and you, my friend, sound like the police at the local checkpoint. You need to take a chill pill, mate.

@@OuzNZ You ask me to take a chill pill, while you are the one talking about family members under delivering ? what a joke. You clearly said it, your relatives are the problem, so don't come here acting like this is Africa's fault. There are people in Africa who don't have that issue, so don't come here acting like you said something meaningful.

@@OuzNZ You and the people who agree with you, check your families, don't come here talking about "Africa". You guys do not represent the entire continent. As a matter of fact, my sister who is living abroad asked my brother to take care of her building, he did what he was supposed to and told me that she was happy with it. So again, if people around you are the problem, just say it, don't talk about the continent.
