  • The essay ,Structure, Sign and Play In the Discourse of Human Sciences, by Jacques Derrida shows the shift of thought from structuralism to post structuralism. Derrida puts forward his idea of center, multiple meanings, free play, deconstruction and so on which paves way to the development of post structuralism as a theory. Watch the video to learn more.

    I absolutely loved the subtleness in the explanation easy to understand yet it tells all the complex theories in the same manner without degrading it's meaning. Thanks a lot it saved my exam paper. Loved it.

    Thank you sir, your class is really fantastic you not only giving the class but also making a comparison between the text and the present situation. It's really a big thing. Nowadays most of the teachers not making such comparison they just teach what the text is saying. The interesting thing is that in you class we students begin to think about the past and the present.👍👍👍👍your class is quite interesting 👍👍👍thank you for your effort.👌👌👌👌

    What is the definition of "free play " here?

    • @IreneFrancisEnglishLiterature
      @IreneFrancisEnglishLiterature  Před 2 lety +4

      Free play simply means that there are no fixed rules in a structure. It opens up a possibility of multiple centers and multiple meanings. Doesnt mean that there would be no centre. Or no meaning. Just that any element of the structure can at some point own the central position. In the context of language, the earlier idea that 'a signifier points to a signified' ( i.e a word will have "a" meaning ) is rejected. A word can have any number of meanings. Why not? That's what Derrida means by 'freeplay'.
