Bharata explained the 'Theory of Rasa' in his Natyasastra. He proposed the maxim or rasasutra "vibhava anubhava vyabichari rasa nishpattih". Later on Abhinava Gupta popularized this theory as he discussed it in his Abhinavabarati.
