- *OUTDATED* The "Gotrek Bug" has been fixed as of v.12, the 10-turn Black Crag Rush may work in theory, but they changed grombrindals unique passive is not available until level 13 now so it would be more difficult.
Thanks to:
St_Trollmore for this excellent guide!
Thingymbob for explaining the duping bug* and discovering the unit transfer variant
The John of Strategy for ALSO discovering the unit transfer technique completely independently, at the same time, and for perfecting it with the 100 Gotrek Save*, amazing!
*Gotrek Duping Bug no longer works as of 1.12, but 10-Turn Black Crag still works
Thanks to everyone who has contributed and continues to contribute to the Dwarf Science streams and threads over the past few months (and there have been MANY contributors. )
Love your work Gentlemen!

If you like this guide chuck me a thumbs up!
If you have some Dwarf Science to share,
chuck it in the comments
"I was able to get 7 gotreks" is not a sentence i ever thought I'd hear
...Sorry? :)
Vermintide? No no. Gotrektide? Yes yes!
Haha imagine Vermintide 2 but with just Gotreks boiling up out of the sewers!
Gotrek fighting side by side with Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, Gotrek, and Gotrek. that's an honorable death
Let's face it, noone else is worthy to stand beside him.
Certainly not Felix.
this is a really funny and useful guide.
but Gotrek's cracked me up the most
Glad you enjoyed!
Anu! It's a game!
SCIENCE:
I can say two things from my experience with Grombrindal.
1. If you're willing to wait an extra turn, you can engage the army from the Bloody Spears, deal damage with your missile infantry, and then withdraw with everyone once the greenskins get close. The battle will count as a defeat, but you won't lose any troops as long as you didn't concede defeat. This allows you to deal some free damage and get a grudge issued on the Bloody Spears army, which you can settle the next turn. I like to do it, because it can speed up getting those 8 grudges to unlock Thorgrim. Additionally, if you get a reward like Raise the Banners for settling the grudge, you can get even higher ranked dwarf warriors and quarrellers early on. Money is another possible reward for the grudge.
It's up to you whether you'd rather settle the extra grudge, or take the Pillars of Grungni on turn one.
2. You can actually win the first battle without taking any casualties. It's tricky, but here's a step-by-step guide:
I. Hide everyone except the gyrocopters in the left corner of the map.
II. Waste the enemy archer ammo.
III. Snipe the lord with the gyros.
IV. Bring everyone except the warriors and regular miners out of hiding. Bomb the greenskins.
V. Put Grombrindal in front of the missile units and the miners with blasting charges.
VI. When the orc infantry gets close, send the gyrocopters into melee along with Grombrindal. Make sure they attack any orc units not blobbing around Grombrindal. Use 'Grombrindal Has No Fear' to buff the gyrocopters.
VII. Khazukan Kazakit-Ha!
This will give your missile units and miners with blasting charges more time to fire and route the enemy army. It works because as long as none of the gyrocopters die, they're fully healed at the end of the battle.
Yes!
@@MercytheMad
A similar strategy works for the second and third battle. It can even work in the battle at Mount Squighorn. You just have to be clever about when you send the gyrocopters into melee.
The Spiffing Brit - "Did you say Exploit?" 🎩
Nice work Mercy, your skills are an exploit themselves! 🏅👏✌
Thanks! 😄 Although I do get a LOT of help
Love these kind of guides, always end up starting a campaign to try it
That's awesome! That's exactly the effect I'm going for :)
Ty man, you just answered the old question: "why Gotrek is unkillable in the lore?"... when he dies another one takes his place. Kind of like a stunt man
Hahaha. 100% Lore-Accurate :)
A Stunt(y) man
@@IronSquid501 i can't believe that i didn't see this pun
Lol. That's bad. haha
As ever, oh Emperor of Exploits, quality video, hope this one didn't take too long to make! I will definitely be giving this a go with sea battles etc
Yes! Someone just told me about the Sea Battle application, that could be pretty ridiculous for some factions.
Here I am watching this now 50 turns into a grombrindal campaign that I started 5 days ago... Fuck me why didn't I see this then 😂😂😂
Sorry! Probs my thumbnail sucks.
Don't worry the algorithm has brought me to this place of pure imagination!
The gotrek exploit cracked me UP XD
Nice video Mercy keep the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Mercy, ty my friend, gonna have a loads of fun with this. Love how you always go full honest mode, then turn back for exploit. P.S. Gonna hunt Grimgore with 12512 Mohawk clones now.
Lol. It is kinda stupid but it IS actually kinda fun, to do once at least. You can also just use 5-6 Gotreks to help you get started and then disband them after a few turns if you don't want to "taint" your campaign too much.
Taint is what I do best brother. Dwarf campain start can be really tough at the begining
. Had no problems with Ungrim (steamrolled north), but with Thorgrim had to restart 5 times. Always end up at war with 3-4 factions and then defence mode 100 turns and I cannot move from mountain area. Now I will Rock. Hard...
Ahh ty for the guide, I wanted to play Dwars for the achivement, now it will be easier!
Glad I could help!
this is amazing. I love your work lol. keep it up man
Thanks, will do!
tried it worked on first try been trying to do this campaign 3 times before this guide always turned into a stalemate between me and grimgor. it was so satisfying killing off his faction.(whose the best now grimgor!!!!)
Glad to help :)
Awesome work Mercy! Personally I tend to turtle in the starting province, but I really like the aggressive approach. :)
I'm a turtler at heart, but I think I need something more if I want to confederate all the Lords. My ideal would be to pull off some amazing rush-confederation strategy at the start, get all my beardy-boys and then just contract back into an Iron-Hard-Kingdom-of-Dwarfdom and watch the world go by.
Great job on this! The addition of the Gottrek cheese had me cracking up
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just a quick suggestion - playing on VH campaign Turn 1. You can get 300g from Zhufbar for Non-aggression, 300g from Prospectors for non-agg & access, 700g from Reikland for access. Probably can get 300g 'gift' from Barak Varr every few turns. Should work on legendary if you wait until diplomatic action is green before trying to get it.
@kevak 123 Thanks for the tip. I must admit I do sometimes forget to check diplomacy on Turn 1, sometimes you can get some sneaky cash, although it tends to be a lot harder on Legendary.
If a gotrek dies in the forrest and nobody is around to admire it, can you still duplicate him?
Haha. Thanks for all your help with this one mate. Hope you are happy with the result.
@@MercytheMad Marvelous work as always.
You are a gentleman and a scholar, and your mighty beard of defense is glorious.
haha, thank you, good sir!
I followed your guide and turn 7 after I declared war to Grimgor, he used underway to come between Grombringal and Karak Dron ^^
That's annoying. Well you can either chase him down and kill him first or let Grimgor do some carnage, keep going and take out black crag, and then chase him down after.
Very nice video editing!
Thank you very much!
Thorgrim: I been doing nothing but duplicating Gotrek for 3 days!
Haha, sorry!
Nice thanks for sharing this
My pleasure
This is amazing!!! 🤙🤙🤙
Awesome, thanks mate ;)
This is madness... and I like it!
I'm glad you liked it!
Attack of the clones
Haha, yeah.
great video and great exploits as usual.
Much appreciated!
It is entirely possible that the extra Gotreks were created by a powerful "Doppleganger" Rune, that or drinking a barrel of Bugmans XXXXXX.
Yeah my headcanon revolves around how Gotrek becomes the spirit of ...Grimnir? or something..so this s the earthly incarnation....of...I don't know ...I just kinda hand-waive the rest of the details :P
very cool. Love the nasty exploit!
Haha, glad you enjoyed :)
Go go gotrek rangers
kek.
You can also clon Gotrek with Bretonia and Empire and separete one form another using the ambush stance, tested at least with Reikland. They appeared much later though.
@Manuel Corvo Belda I suspected ambush would work, or retreating from Rebels, but I had not tested it. Thanks for the confirmation! Gotrek spawns as soon as you build a tavern type building. It's the public order building for Empire and Dwarfs. Not sure which specific building you need for Bretonnia
@@MercytheMad Ohh I didn´t know, thank you!
Sadly, this guide now needs some small updates. Mighty Beard of Defense is locked behind rank 12 now instead of 8 *but* the addition of a Master Engineer at the start does help the early game. Not to mention Runes of Fear for routing Greenskins even easier.
@Siliuse Yes, sadly this one didn't remain current long. The essential 10-Turn Black Crag strategy still works though, it's just harder as you don't have Mighty Beard of Defense yet when you take on Grimgor (although you MAY be able to gt some helpful runes in time) ....strategy remains the same though.
@@MercytheMad I think the biggest part that no longer works is the rush strat where you underway straight to Black Crag and usually end up fighting the 2-1 fight. Without Might Beard auto resolve isn't in your favor, though the fight may be winnable you won't wipe out the garrison.
The safer strat still works from when I tried it. Rune of fear sapping enemy leadership really helps to trivialize early greenskin armies. Most infantry auto-route after one hit from the irondrakes and the copters can snipe lords/grimgor well enough. The only complication was that Grimgor confederated with The Scabby Eye through diplomacy so I couldn't finish him off for good.
I'll be trying this rush strategy later but I probably won't do the Gotrek cheese, not that it's not tempting. Grombrindal is definitely an easier start than Thorgrim. I find trying to rush to Black Crag with the high king to be alittle bit more work for sure.
@Justin Bowman yes the Gotrek cheese is not required at ALL for this Black Crag rush, I only used one Gotrek in my campaign and it was fine.
The real game changer for me was choosing Grimnir's Strength buff (I never used take this buff) . Super-Buffed Dwarf Warriors are awesome! I'm a total convert, Grimnirs all the way for me from now on!
Mass production of Gotreks XD
haha yeah. CA patched it now though.
You cloned Brian Blessed. Amazing. I want to play dwarfs now. Everyone needs more Brian Blessed in their life.
Brian Blessed makes a fantastic Dwarf. Maybe a bit too lively for an authentic Gotrek(not gravelly and menacing enough) , but I enjoy his version of Gotrek a lot anyway.
beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Send in the Gotreks
There are very few problems that cannot be solved by more Gotreks!
11.29 what the actual lol
Lol, it's stupid isn't it ? :P
Do to the voice sounding nothing like the book's descriptions, I always called him Faux-trek anyway.
Yeah true, as much as I love the voice in-game I would have imagined him a lot more rumbly and Grim and not so lighthearted.
@@MercytheMad He sounds like your jolly uncle at Thanksgiving.
Do you think the black crag rush is a better strategy than the traditional dwarf campaign? Seems really fun, although maybe a little difficult once its taken
Yes, I think it is the best opening that I know right now.
You can decide whether you try to hold Black Crag or just contract back into Karaz-a-Karak after you destroy Grimgor. But as long as you wipe out Grimgor that is one major pain in your campaign GONE right from the start.
Amazing guide.
Gotrek-spam aside, if you wish to confederate other Dwarves I discourage removing GS so early. Being at war with Grimgor boost insanely your diplomacy with other Dawi and most of whom you will discover way after turn 10.
2/3 months ago I managed to remove them with gromby by turn 18/19 (quarrellers, enhance movement, cheaper army by valaya) and that was amazing, but by turn 30+ no Dwarves would confed because no good relations due to lack of common wars. And no, Wurrzag's faction does not give the same diplomacy boost, unfortunately.
Ended up with karak hirn and Belegar declaring war to me :(
You can follow the same guide, take Black Crag but just don't kill Grimgor, that way you will be much stronger but still keep him around?
@@MercytheMad yes and no. I mean, the idea is good but I think it depends if other Dawi will smash him or not... Even in the guide, on turn 10 there was a Karak Azul full stack close to black crag: that means 1 or 2 turns before smashing the last of Grimgor' settlements.
Did you try sea battles ? I can't get it to work. It just locks char and puts notification on center.
Nah I didn't try it, apparently others did and it doesn't work for sea battles.
Looks like Thin-gym-bob to me.
He is all thingys to all men-ys :P
Does Gotrek bug works with other quest markers like sea encounters or food merchant?
EDIT: @Marcin Swoboda
Update: Sorry, that's actually a 'No' to Sea encounters. (apologies, someone had told me it works on "all blue circle quests" but that has been proved wrong now.)
I know it works on Imrik's Dragon Quests though. (you don't get multiple dragons though, just the buffs.
You cna apparently do 2 or more separate se encounters in different places with a Single battle however (so Like sent a single lord to one skull reef and send your army to another one, trigger them both while a dialogue box is up and then just fight the one battle to get both rewards (I have not tested this though)
@@MercytheMad Skull Reef here I come :D
the most overpower of this gotreks is that any race that can have this little power one , can make this exploit , and that is super super super broke ! XD
Yeah sort of , it's a bit more complicated for Brettonia and Empire but all Dwarfs can use the same exploit
For the other factions all you have to do Is use ambush stance to free the gotreks that clip on one another.
Lol CA should pay you for doing all this play-testing and bug finding.
Haha, nah I pay THEM for making this glorious game.
For me, Gotrik didn't spawn and I couldn't underway into Black Crag Reinforcement range O.o
can the gotrek bug work on the troll hag merchant?
I haven't tried it, sorry. I think someone told me no, but not 100% sure.
Uh can the gotrek exploit be used on imrik's dragon as well?
Yep. Was doing it in last nights stream and will probably do some more tonight :P
@@MercytheMad Nice Job! bro. Must try this awesome cheese right now!
What about Grudgebearer, how can he take Black Crag? Thanks
This was a warhammer 2 video I believe. In the current game (Warhammer 3) it's quite different, but dwarfs are pretty strong now, shouldn't be to hard to take Black Crag.
@@MercytheMad Thank you!
I cannot get this to work. Everytime I move anyone into the circle I can’t get them to move out fast enough again.
@Alex Cyr You have to have a message pop up on screen (top right) that you have not clicked away yet, so the quest can't resolve.
Move in and out of the blue circle THEN click away the message pop-ups in top right.
If you have no message pop ups waiting to be clicked or you already clicked them away it wont work.
@@MercytheMad I’m a moron. Thanks!
doesnt work completely patched the quest battle is not available so eary and the grombrindal beard passsive only at level 14 13 i think
Thanks for reminding me, have updated the description. Do you still rush Black Crag or you prefer different strategy now? I kinda think I will probably still want to rush Black Crag anyway, even though it is harder, so Grimgor doesn't get outta hand.
Does it work with all the other starting lords?
@dario il diario The 10 turn Black Crag Guidse is for Grombrindal. The Gotrek Exploit works with all Dwarf Lords and also with Bretonnia and Empire. (you must put the Gotreks in Ambush stance to unstack them)
@@MercytheMad Thanks! Nice, i want to try it with Belegar, for some reason i'm obsessed with that campaing and keep replaying it ^_^'
I think it works especially well for Belegar, because he is so weak economically and the Gotreks are free
@@MercytheMad Yea, my most recent strat is to use the second city as a sack city, hyper level up the heroes, and use just them to reach the capital under 20 turns, but this leaves the first cities opened to attacks and is a risk, sometimes i lose 10 more turns to destroy at least the skaven in the area, but this can make me too late, and find the orks already almost defeated, while Thorgrim got huge (wich makes him hard to confederate).
Have a nice day ^_^
Wouldnt all those Gotreks dissapear after 20 turns?
Apparently the first one disappears after the 30 turns, but the rest stay. I'm guessing you lose one every 30 turns? Haven't tested it that far.
arent G & F added for a limited amount of turns????
I think it's 30 (plus another 30 for each activation). So fliex and the First Gotrek dissappear after 30 turns the other 99 Gotreks last for like, 3000 turns? Not sure, never tested.
Noice
Cheers :)
This is genius! Hahaha.
Glad you enjoyed! FYI The 'Hundred Gotreks' bug is fixed and no longer works, the 'Gotrek Forever' trick still works though.
so unlucky got bloodly spearz comedown south on turn 6
Really? Did you do anything different from the guide at all?
@@MercytheMad it was on very hard difficulty thats about it :/
Edit: Sorry I misread, you are already on Very Hard.
If it keeps happening, I would change up the strategy, leave the minor settlements at Tier 1 and be prepared to lose them if need be. Just keep going and Grombrindal can come back up after you kill Grimgor. You will have slower growth that way but as long as you don't lose Karaz-a-karak you should be OK. If you don't take the opporunity to wipe Grimgor early he will be a pain in the balls forever.
@@MercytheMad yeah basically what I did, but when they rocked up at turn 6 I was like ' whya re you here?! go away! mercy heeellllppp!
XD
Haha Sorry Regal! You could just restart and hope it doesn't happen. But I would probably just play on. Your army of Super Grimnir Warriors should be able to sort it all out in a few turns! A set back but probably not the end of the world?
The Gotreks bug is just silly. They really need to patch it ASAP. Why even play on harder difficulty if one can just cheat?
@Kurt Loban I don't mind it, it's just a funny thing you can do. I only ever did it for that video and haven't felt the temptation to ever try it again. The movement bug is the one I think they need to patch...although I think I have cured myself of it now.
@@MercytheMad For sure! Yeah I was just curious. Thanks for the reply.
Lol, what's the point of playing on leg if you have to use cheats and exploit bugs to be able to win?
Haha. I guess you have to answer that for yourself. For myself...I don't use this exploit and I don't really even try to win campaigns that often. It's just information, and hopefully entertainment. Do with it what you will!
I hope you didn't feel like you had just wasted 10 minutes at the end :(
