How To: The Forward Tyson Drill | Tj Dillashaw

- Problems with taller opponents? The Tyson drill should be your bread and butter. In fact, you should be using head movement no matter what.
...And yes, I call it that in honor of Mike Tyson's movements. đ

When Tyson does it it's terrifying
He was a freight train đ
Do you think the world of MMA will ever forgive you? I doubt it personally..
@@TjDillashaw1 He still is. And listen, I get you are a higher calibre fighter and all. And respect to you for what you had to do to get where you are today.
But you can't make a video on slipping like an all time legend while not even moving anything like him.
The slip starts at the waste and involves your whole mid section bending sideways as a 45 degree angle. This is to generate torque on your way back to centre when you throw your hooks.
Slipping far over also enable to stance switch to power up the hooks and uppercuts.
Like I said, all the respect to you. You seem like a pretty stand up guy in comparison to alot of other UFC goons, but this isn't a Tyson drill.
@@jeremiahjeremiah1319 good for power but in mma u dont slip your head too far should you run into a head kick, head movement is kept pretty minimal in mma, and dillashaw aint just a high caliber fighter, he is of the world caliber.
@@jeremiahjeremiah1319 maybe just let the world champion show you how he does it I think itâs worked for him and he has it under control mate, unless u hav a video on your channel that shows how it should be done?
Technically, this defense is called the "Dempsey Roll," whom Tyson adopted this move from. Tyson, however perfected it so it appears to have come from him but historically it came from Dempsey. Dempsey was one of the boxer's that Tyson enjoyed studying, and Cus was such a boxing professor that you were going to get a myriad of boxers and their techniques to study to have in your arsenal.
Thanks for sharing your insight!
No problem! I love Tyson and his original camp of trainers.
â@@mrdanielleebrown Yeah exactly i'm glad to see somebody talk about it. The anime Hajime no Ippo is a great example to see the movement and the dynamic. Mr TjDilashaw, thx for your time, there is not a lot of professionnal fighters who take time to answer to the "public". You have the support of the belgium ;)
@@micgeims7913 however Ippo just throws haymakers while doing It and in reality It does not work like that, I mean If you do that your opponent will just get out of the way to the sides thus finishing the momentum.
No it's not. The dempsey roll is a double shift used to chase down an opponent stepping away. Throw a right, step through into southpaw, throw a left, step through again back to orthodox.
When you come back you gotta pull the old Brock catch line:"I'm a white boy and I'm jacked, deal with it"
Hahahaa word
Hell yea. Looking like Rhonda in her prime

As an amateur boxer, this technique worked with me so well, especially when im fighting taller opponents, you can also add a leaping hook with it to surprise your opponents given that you already loaded your power on your lead leg, its syncs so well.
You mean lead with a gazelle punch?
@@sayajin8773 yes
@@sayajin8773 more like a leap hook
I think those massive head injuries on Ribalta speak for themselves... And then there are still those DELUSIONAL IDIOTS who firmly believe that Bruised Lee could beat a 'primetime' Iron Mike Tyson... I just wonder how on earth would Lee possibly even have the CHIN to survive all those BIG heavy punches (1200 to 1800 PSI per hit) like Ribalta did? đ€
fellow amateur fighter here still training for first fight. Did you ever find yourself getting caught with the opponent's rear hand when slipping to the inside like this?
Thanks!
What supplements do I need to take this to the next level

Nah gotta go more extreme.... sell your soul.

You should show all the movement first, and after that show it in parts

Can i Ask you how it worked for you? I mean is It ok to learn for a guy that is not an heavy weight, like me, i'm at 64 kg. Is it possible to learn the exact technique and be like Tyson in a real match?

Nice one.. Champ..
I'm your big fan..
From: Philippines
I've practiced martial arts for a while, but only ever by myself. I could get the movements down and do nice flows and technique, that is, until I started sparring. Immediately sparring showed every bad technique I had been using (in terms of footwork and balance). My punches are great, stiff, snappy. My feet and my balance however make those punches impossible to ever throw in a real situation. I just wanted to say this drill is amazing for not only feeling out the way to move forward in a balanced position, but it also forces your feet to maintain correct heel-toe alignment.
Thanks.
Then hurry up and KILL SOMEONE already!!! đč
Foot work drills will take you far as long as ur doing it right
Great lesson đ
I really respect that you train both stances
Very nice tutorial!

Thanks TJ for sharing your knowledge.
I like how when he gets speed his head doesnt move and his shoulder just pivot. He does it good slow but his head stays in the same place when he goes fast
Thank you TJ
