- In this tutorial I show you a way of selecting a tree to remove it from the background.
The first thing we do is go to Image, then Calculations.
A popup box appears and gives us a few options, we select the most appropriate and inverse out selection so the tree is white, and hit ok.
We now need to make the darks darker and the whites whiter, so we create a levels adjustments. Using the sliders we make the correct adjustments.
We head back to the layers panel and make the necessary changes to the mask to correct the selection.
I added a white background to show the tree that we removed from the original background.
I hope you found this tutorial helpful.

Very helpful tutorial, Thank you so much!
Did you know you can also use the dodge and burn tools on the masks for finer and or trickier selections? I got that tip from somebody who worked as a compositor on Star Wars the Phantom Menace.
Play, play, play with photoshop - that's the best way to learn.
+Trevor Somers That's a good tip, will try it out. Thank you.
Photo Medic you're welcome!
You made that look a 1000 times harder than it really is, new people must be confused. It was a mess tutorial.
