In today's Photoshop tutorial we're going to have some fun creating a retro 3D effect that really works. If you cast your mind back to the 3D movies, comics and posters from your childhood, you'll remember those comedic glasses with red and blue lenses that bring the effect to life. Stereoscopy is the scientific term behind how these images work. By overlapping two images using the red and blue channels, it produces an anaglyph 3D image that jumps out from the screen when viewed with colour filtered specs.

Very helpful, thank you! I've had two images for about 30 years that I've wanted to make 3D for red/blue glasses and this tutorial was easy to apply.

I've had a blast creating my own anaglyphs using GIMP and another free software called Barelief. I was wondering why you don't use the gradient fill for the water. I find that it works fantastic on a row of buildings looking down a city street. Thanks for the video!

I followed these instructions on a piece of art I created. A setting of 10 for the horizontal shift barely gave me a 3D effect. After a few tries, I settled on 65. This gave me a good 3D effect, but it also created a double exposure look. My art piece is a combination of photograph and vector art. The photographic elements look good, but the vector elements have a harsh double vision look to them. Is this effect only good for photographic images and not vector? Is there anything I can do to make the vector elements look good? Love your tutorials. Hope you can help.

Trying to do this with Affinity Photo. I'm all good up until about 6:40 The channels seem to work a little different, but I can do the color shift. However for the end product I just have one colored layer sitting on top of the other. I've tried fooling around with the blend modes, but that doesn't produce the desired effect. Can anyone please steer me in the proper direction? I'm so close...!
