❤BIBLE VERSES OF THE DAY❤
JAMES 1:12 NIV
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
Amen. Also, you're gonna need to be prepared for Ep. 9. I mean the "bring out the tissues" kind of prepared. It is going to be a sad one.
Amen. I always look forward to seeing your verse of the day! It’s good to see His message spread on CZcams and I thank you for doing it.
@@IzzyManDude Indeed. I'm not particularly religious myself, but I started reading The Bible over the Christmas period, and a good verse is a good message. No doubt about that. I'm only starting Exodus, but I feel anything that speaks about humanity at it's fundamental level... the vile/the wholesome would be a contender for her choice as verse of the day. I think Californiablend is going to handle herself with overt emotional grace, it that makes sense.
Amen!
Amen and I love your t-shirt in this!
I could relate to this episode. I was a platoon commander of a Combined Action Platoon (CAP) during my 2nd tour in Vietnam in 1971. I had 14 Marines and 30 South Vietnamese under me. Our job was to live in the villages, protect the villagers and to train the South Vietnamese to defend themselves when the U.S. left Vietnam. The war was winding down, our support had been standing down, medical evacuation and artillery support was almost non existent and the North Vietnamese Army was tightening the noose. The Marine Corps commandant said the Marines would stay until the last minute. So we did. Knowing you could be one of the last to die in a war that had lasted 10 years and was almost over played on you a bit.

Bronze Star, Purple Heart
Thank you sir.
In reality, the company wasn't as hostile to Webster as is depicted. His friends were glad to see him. As for his not going AWOL, he was a lot more injured than he was shown to be, and had to be evacuated all the way back to England. It would have been nearly impossible for him to escape the hospital and travel on his own back to the front lines from England.
Its funny cause the way the show portrayed it when he was wounded in Holland he pretty much just walked all the way back to CP. Maybe thats what people saw and thought he was just cruising in a hospital while they got blown to bits in Bastogne.
That and how happy go lucky he was when he came back. He should have read the room and seen how unhappy everyone was first... Since I'm sure he was aware of how feroce the battle of the bulge even in England
Yes, I doubt you're incorrect, how like the case with Dyke they took some liberties with bringing into account those sorts of attitude did occur. And just as Dyke wasn't totally incompetent as he eran Bronze Stars. But there were officers who did exemplify that poor traits as did some less than professional or compassionate regular GI's. And I saw the look on my dad's face while on leave in London even though he was Army Air Corps he was in charge of replacing and refurbishing shot up B-17's and lost many friends in the Air War. The public at large has no idea how many air crews were lost, if I remember correctly, it was the equivalent of all the Marines lost in the entire Pacific campaign over the entire war in something like 9 months. It wasn't until the P-38 and the P-47 that the Bomber Crews had escort's and their losses were significantly reduced. Also I think they adjusted altitudes for bombing runs to a higher level. It will be interesting to see the coming Spielberg/ Hanks production of "Air Power the Story of the Air War in Europe."
The miniseries was based directly on the book, this episode was also based on personal letters written by Webster.
While they weren't hostile toward Webster, he did refuse to do anything beyond what strictly was his duty and that included not going AWOL from the hospital. I'm not saying that made him a bad soldier, but it was an aspect of Webster that could be used to show how the other guys could react to someone who didn't go the extra mile.
I was late friends with one of the last remaining Easy Company Members, who was close friends with Johnny Martin, William Dukeman, Pat Christiansen, Albert Blithe, Donald Hoobler, EJ Gray, and Robbins, and he explicitly stated how some guys particularly Webster was the type who was in it for the medals.
Lt. Jones/Babyface and Winters were together partly to show you the dichotomy of the war. Winters was very by the book at the start of the series when the war was new, but by this point in the war he had changed and didn’t want to risk his men anymore than was absolutely necessary.
You can see Jones is very much like Winters, but when Winters gives the order to disobey Sink’s order of a second patrol, Jones was watching and learned something about leadership: you have to know when to take your foot off the gas and give your guys a break, even if only for one night.
You might want to spend a minute thinking about Don Malarkey. That was a man that was “put upon.” Like Winters, Don Malarkey was a warrior. When I saw him in the shower, I nearly cried. That’s a man coming to grips with his imminent death. He didn’t die… small mercies. A great American. A simple man. A bad @ss of the highest order but a thoughtful and considerate man. God bless the memory of this person.
Malarkey certainly had one of the best arc we've saw starting from Currahee when he was bright and joking to the end of the series when he is serious and tired. And he's never got his own episode
The actor did an excellent job. Equal parts relieved to shower and wondering if it would be his last.
Love and the highest respect from the UK. Absorbing all these details I read in the comments is making this series greater and far more introspective than it has ever been in past viewings... and they were on a whole level all of their own to begin with. It's the small anecdotal information that always burn the deepest.
Malarkey wrote a very good book ("Easy Company Soldier: The Legendary Battles of a Sergeant from World War II's Band of Brothers") - it's a great companion read to Amborse's "Band of Brothers".
@@scottjones9310 Thanks, I got most of the books the guys did. But never knew he did one. I need to find it.
LT. Jones is Tom Hanks son. The wounded German crying out on the riverbank is Tom Hanks, himself.
Tom Hanks was also in the crowd of British soldiers during the celebration in the barn earlier in the series when they went over the river to rescue those left behind. You can see him in the middle/back during the 'Curahee!' toast.
@@Salguine That's not him, the actor looks similar but it's not Hanks.
I love your respect for this series and the representation of the sacrifices made by these men.
CB, I'm so glad you appreciate what these men did for America. This was not fiction.
Major Dick Winters, a good leader, a good soldier and a good man. Rare combination of all three.
I knew and served with a few.
Winters really did care about his men. He knew the second trip would be a suicide mission. The soldiers under his command, must have a had a huge amount of respect for him.
"Lt Baby Face" as you call him looks "like an old soul" because he is Tom Hanks' son and they look real similar. And he is by the book, he's basically fresh out of training.
I will always say this.... BEST mini series ever made.
I thought Eion Bailey, who portrayed Webster, did a beautiful bit of acting on screen in this episode. But his off screen narration of The Last Patrol was pitch perfect in my opinion. It helped to really carry the tone of this episode. Narration for an actor can be tricky but he was in the zone.
Eion Bailey is seriously underrated.
I’ve watched Band of Brothers probably a dozen times in the last 20 years and I always thought Webster was portrayed by Paul Rudd. Holy crap.
@@emanuelhoyos1030 HAHAHA
@@emanuelhoyos1030 lol, you didn't see his name in the credits a dozen times though
@@emanuelhoyos1030
Getting things wrong like that you should try watching the short video "Misheard Lyrics" by Peter Kay for a good laugh.
“Nervous in the service” was slang for PTSD/Shell Shock back in the day. Malarkey was poking fun at Webster.
One thing I always liked about this episode... you have the young lieutenant, eager to prove himself and learn what it means to command in the field... and then his reaction after Winters tells them to skip the patrol and lie about it... he looks down for a second and nods to himself... he just learned a real lesson of command from a great leader: put your men first.
It's amazing how attached you get to these men. True heroes. Being from Oregon, I'm a huge fan of Don Malarkey. His book, Easy Company Soldier, is an excellent companion to Band of Brothers.
Gurl, only thing I love more than your T-shirt is your reactions! Both are 🔥!👌
The young lieutenant, Lt Jones was played by Colin Hanks, Toms son.
Hank Paprocki was from my town. He was 15 when he lied about his age and joined the USMC and was in combat throughout the Pacific theater ( Gaudalcanal, Peleilu, Okinawa, Cape of Gloucester). He was only 19 years old by the time he got home.
Lieutenant Babyface is Tom Hanks son Colin.
You're by far one of the best reactors to this show because you recognize every character and remember everyone's name!
'Leuitenant Babyface!' 😂 Actually he's Tom Hank's son.
Out of a lot of reactions to Band of Brothers, these reactions have to be my favorites by far, with your genuine excitement at every episode and intelligent post-mortem thoughts and comments. I can already tell that after you finish Episode 10 I'll be going back to binge all of these reactions together again.
15:45 He was blown by his own grenade. He thrown the grenade in the room from outside and charged inside without waiting. His grenade exploded in his face when he was entering.
Lt. Jones was actually with Easy for about two months before he was promoted and moved up to Regimental Headquarters.
I love your take on the entire series this far. I have probably watched this series at least 5 times, I try to watch it every year. Without spoiling the next episode, it is by far the most raw TV episode I have ever seen in my life. Every year I learn and understand new things as I view things from a new perspective as my time served in the Canadian Army, the perspective from the eyes of a civilian and the eyes of a service member are so vastly different its amazing. Keep doing what you're doing!
Re: 2nd LT Jones promotion to 1st LT after one combat mission - the US Army had large officer losses by this point in the war, just 3 months before Germany’s surrender. They were playing the long game - moving up officers who’d experienced battle so in the years to come they’d have some leaders who’d been there and done that. It also freed up spots for other new officers to get combat exp
They were moving up West Point grads. Didn't want to lose them.
Historical note: If you're wondering what happened to Cobb (The soldier who made James McAvoy take off his unit citation), he was dishonorably discharged and briefly imprisoned for attacking a senior officer.
In the episode you see him drunk and mouthing off, and in real life it was followed by a physical altercation. In the episode itself near the end, right after Webster comes out of the basement, you can see Cobb sitting dejected in the back of a jeep being driven by the MPs (Military police).
This comment bears repeating
Wasnt he also discharged from the Navy earlier in the war for the same reason?
They took their time kicking him out too. Dude got to stay with the company until after VE day
That is kinda sad about Cobb though. I'm sure he was a good guy, the war just touched him differently.
Good riddance if you ask me. He's been ridiculously irritating. Reminds me of a soldier I knew. That resulted in a physical altercation as well.
Medic came in, asked if we were drunk. We said no. He said that was our problem. He gave us a six pack and told us to keep it down. Best prescription a doc ever gave me. I'm still friends with that soldier after that.
Did you know there is another WW2 mini series by spielberg??? Its called The Pacific!!!!! It was the Marines WW2 in the Pacific. Very very good!!!!
It’s a series I revisit every year...I’ll watch an episode or two, I always see something new. Great commentary 🏆🎖very well done.
Lieutenant Babyface is played by Colin Hanks son of Tom Hanks
8:15 Gabby doing her best impression of an owl. 🦉
The railway gun that was mentioned was often a naval cannon, 8 to 14 inches, one a special rail car, though there were a few larger ones. While they were potent, they used up a lot of resources and were big targets themselves.
The supply clerk's comment about "not enough to go around" and the men complaining about the rear echelon taking everything was not without merit all the way from the docks to the front, rear units were noted to have plenty of food, winter gear, and other things while the troops at the front got what was left. There are even many accounts of such units going through the big duffle bags the front line troops have left in the rear, stealing the souvenirs and just about everything else.
They had to wait to blow the whistles until they were out of the way. There was no nightvision or thermals so lanes of movement and fire for the guns were prepared. The patrol had to be in the "safe" area before their support could fire.
I believe that 'Baby Face' is played by Tom Hanks son.
You're amazing! So full of intelligence, life and empathy
7:49 great sound design 😆 love this series, by the way
Webster is the one I sympathize with most. Especially in the book, he's described as someone who could have easily gotten himself any assignment he wanted with as little risk as he wanted, but chose to do his duty as he saw it. But he also refused to go past that, wouldn't accept promotions, and wouldn't volunteer for extra risk. Because the people around him were so elite, he got a reputation as being a little bit lazy because of that. lol
Colin Hanks did a heroic portrayal in the movie " Untraceable (2008) ".
Lieutenant Jones ("Lt. Baby-face") was played by Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks' son. That might have something to do with your feelings about him. :D
Was the actor who plays Lt. Babyface Tom Hanks’s son? Winters’s comment in the intro that people started to feel they might live through the war really hit home. My dad said that when he went overseas in ‘42 (1st Infantry Division) than he just assumed he would never live to get back home.
Did he serve with the 1st through all of their campaigns throughout the entire war or was he wounded and taken out of action? The only reason that I ask is because the Big Red 1 saw more combat than any other American division during WW2 and to serve with them from 1942 until the end of war and survive is one hell of an accomplishment. Weather he made every campaign or not he has my respect, admiration and gratitude.
I assume you've seen The Big Red One...?
Lt. Babyface was in fact played by Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks' son.
@@gregall2178 I saw the 'Big Red 1' maybe 40 years ago but I've watched documentaries about the division as well as individual documentaries about the different campaigns they fought in. I've also read a book about the battle of the Hurtgen Forest. I'm certainly not a historian but I know a little bit more about the 1st Infantry Division and WW2 than what I may have learned from watching 'The Big Red 1'
Jackson rushed into the building before his grenade went off. He was inexperienced in combat, he was a supply and aide solider. Winters should have known better and assigned him a job like the Lt. got.
Why does so many feel the need to spoil what kind of episode is coming up? Seriously. No need to say “bring tissues for next one” “oh next one is gonna bring tears”. Then every reactor is say “people have warned me about episode 9 so bla bla”
Talk about what has been seen but let them go in fresh for the futures ones.
11:39 Is it just me, or do you stand at attention when Winters enters a scene, Gabby? Your reactions to this series get better and better with each episode.
well noticed! When a senior officer enters you stand at attention!
Pretty sure, Ltn. Babyface got promoted for playing along...wink wink. Great reaction!
The biggest difference was the formality LT.Jones when he arrived and how laid back the veterans were.
Lt. Babyface (Jones) the Actor is Tom Hanks Son
One thing about this series, they had Popeye's rank wrong the entire time. He wasn't a lowly Private. He was a SR NCO. Up there with Talbert, Grant, Martin, Malarky, Shifty and McClung. Shortly after filming the interview episode. ( I highly recommend watching that ) it's called We stand Alone Together. Popeye Wynn passed on March 18, 2000, just over a year before the Band of Brothers miniseries was first aired. Heads up. Next Episode can be very hard to watch. It's a heartbreaker.
Jackson was from a small town outside of Pittsburgh. His name is on the Bastogne war memorial outside of Foy.
I find myself rewatching BoB once a year. Least we forget.
Lieutenant Baby Face is Tom Hanks Son, btw!
Another excellent reaction, so glad I joined you on this journey...😌
Tom Hanks even enlisted his own son to fight in the War...Brutal.
After the war, Jones was not discharged and remained in Germany where he was promoted to the rank of captain. He never returned to the United States. He died after an operation following an automobile accident in Berlin while stationed there on 21st July, 1947.
Winters said yes to Vest joining the patrol because Vest has been with Easy since Toccoa, whereas Jones just graduated from military school.
I just love all my boys.
That says it all. That's what it's like.
Jackson walked into his own grenade. By doctrine, he would have pulled the pin, released the spoon, counted the fuse down (don't know how many seconds WWII fuses were set for) and then thrown it inside. That way the enemy has no time to throw it back and you don't get hit by your own weapon.
Doctrine never says to cook a grenade. They're mass-produced and the fuse is nominally 5 seconds, but variability in manufacture means there's a +/- 2 second variation. What's done is you pull the pin while holding the spoon tight, and hurl that thing as hard as you can so you can bounce it around a room to prevent throwbacks. And that's with modern M67s. The Mk 2 "pineapple" grenade was a cruder design and that variability was even more prevalent.
@@RaderizDorret Interesting. As of the early 1980s at lovely Fort Benning, GA, we were still cooking them off. Now, I moved out of infantry just a couple years after that, and doctrine changes. But as far as doctrine goes, if you look at FM 7-8 (sorry, latest I could find on my shelf is from 2001), page 4-23, reads "8. Allowing cook-off time (two seconds maximum), and shouting FRAG OUT, the lead soldier of the assaulting fire team prepares and throws a grenade into the building." So, apparently the doctrine has changed. What were the tactics in 1944-45? I don't have that doctrine in front of me, but we see the result of walking in too soon in Jackson's case. (And yes, we were using M67s in the early 80's)

Baby face is Colin Hanks, Tom Hank's Son.
Lt baby face or Jones. That's Tom Hanks son.
Some days, your attitude is one of the only sources of light in my life. Thank you for being so positive :^)
Cute shirt, very wholesome.
I have enjoyed reading about WWII most of my life. Thanks for giving the boys such kindness and consideration with your reactions. Would hope someone from the 101st sends you a patch or logo'd coffee cup. Keep up the great work.
The new Leiutennant Jones is Tom Hanks son.
AKA Baby Face lol
Fantastic reaction. 🙂
The best reaction to the band of brothers Continue please!
Your reactions are so genuine and it makes watching these one of the highlights of my week. I'm sad we're so close to the end of the show.
Winters had his men's BACK here. For context, he literally could have been shot for doing what he did. But he knew that this was a pointless suicide mission and he wasn't going to do that to them. Mad respect.
Lt. Baby face is Tom Hank's son
Love your shirt 3000
Same.
LT Jones Baby face try hard is Tom Hanks son.
Something that not everyone gets immediately about Winters’ not sending the patrol is that he was disobeying a direct order on the front line during wartime. From what I understand, he could have been executed for that.
His love and respect for his men, and his deep trust in them was on full display in this episode.
Lieutenant Babyface = Tom Hanks son.
I've read in other comments that Webster wasn't treated this badly. Yeah, they gave him some shit for missing Bastogne, but they were still his friends and happy to see him.
I think they just used Webster as a generalization of how wounded soldiers might be treated once they came back to their unit after being gone for a while. The guys were actually glad to see him again.
Seen your movie reactions like the rockys and bravehearts and so on. You look so much fun to be around. And your beauty is that to a rare flower. Keep up the reactions.
Lt Babyface is Tom Hanks son Colin
If you like Major Winters (Damien Lewis) and Lt. Lipton (Donnie Wahlberg). Watch Dreamcatcher sometime. They both star in it. Also has Morgan Freeman. Its based on a Stephen King novel
Winters and Nixon actually kept feeding the brass booze so they were drunk and when they woke up the next day they were hungover & couldn't remember much so they just assumed they forgot seeing the men leave for the 2nd mission and just figured it happened cause Winters said it did
You're right. The intro gets better and better as the series goes on.
Sometimes you have to creatively disobey orders.
You should red Websters book, “Parachute Infantry”. The TV episode does not tell the real story of him, but that is because he was dead when they my made BoB and could not get his input. Amazing book about his experience, and was way more in-depth that shown here. As a historical reenactor with the 82d LHA (in So Cal- yep come see us in San Padro) I used his book as the base of my persona.
If this episode overwhelmed you. The next one will really get the tears flowing!! I love your fresh look at this series!!
That new Lt. Jones (Baby Face) is Tom Hanks son in real life.
Your reactions are 🔥
I love how excited she is in the beginning knowing how tragic the episode is going to be. Can't keep her down, good energy,
Hi, agreed. CZcams video: Ohio Players - Fire
Lt. "Baby Face " was a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point. To top it off he graduated on D-Day. He definitely wanted to see combat before the war ended...
Nixon's reaction was first rate.
Your channel is the best reaction to this series 😉very enjoy it!!
Watch "The Pacific". It was made by the same people who made "Band of Brothers". It is even better, imo, than BOB.
Not just the generational pain of the people the Nazis chose to genocide, and I do not mean to discount their pain and suffering even to this day, but all over the world, there are still those with parents or grandparents who fought and/or suffered through this terrible world war that the effects are still felt today. For my part, my grandfather and his PTSD as well as the solemn moments I found him and the times we would share quiet moments when I knew he was seeing the past and not the present. To even how it shaped our country, some good and mostly for the worst. If that war had never happened, by and large all peoples and countries would be far better off today.
I absolutely love your shirt!! God bless you young lady!
Love your shirt 3000!
The next two episodes are very emotional, both good and bad and they do an incredible job of bringing the series to a close. I hope that you also react to the documentary "We Stand Alone Together" as it's great to see more of the real men of Easy.
Your reactions are the best girl! ❤
11:55 If eyes were guns, Webster would be in pieces there.
Awesome amazing reaction every episode 👍✨ 2 more episodes to go after this 😇🎉👍
nice braids btw.
You got so attached to these guys watching this miniseries. You really start to feel for them, especially this episode. And Winters really proved why he's the type of man you want to follow here. His concern is for his men above anything else. If you think this episode made you emotional, wait until you see the next one.
Love your shirt
Jackson was wounded because he threw a grenade in the building and made entry as it exploded. Just a tactical error.
All this joy you feel from this episode is great however it gets real serious in episode 9 .
Do you realise Lieutenant Babyface is Tom Hank's son? Lovely reactions btw, and really looking forward to seeing you watch episode 10. My fav episode and so emotional.
Lt babyface is Tom Hanks son Colin 😄
Officers have a suffice job, as do all soldoersr, but officers are not suppose to say "no". If they do, it kills their career. And in wartime it can be perceived as mutiny...which can be a death sentence. So winters "faking" the patrol for the sake of his men and not losing them over a "greedy" mission is a huge deal on multiple levels. It shows he cares, and his men love him and respect him for it. But he also gambled his life/career.
"leadership" is doing the right thing regardless of consequences.
