We just did this to our fireplace! The new look is phenomenal! I was able to remove the doors and brass pieces to paint. I did sand the brass prior to painting. Used the same flat paint you did. Haven’t used. It yet. I highly recommend the aesthetic change. It modernized the look and looks brand new!
How well has the paint held up over the past 2 years?? Does it scratch off at all??
I'm curious how it's held up without sanding. This is what I've been wanting to do but I dread sanding it, so if I don't have to sand it that would be great!
Can't wait .thank you so much .i am painting my kitchen too .top cabinet white and bottom expresso .thanks your video helped me a lot .
Thank you - I am thrilled I can convert my brassy fireplace into 'classy' fireplace.. thanks to your tutorial!
Glad I could help!
Have to agree w one contributor. I would suggest an abrasion step after through cleaning, from a paint ctgs expert;) After sanding w 400-600 grit paper, clean any debris with a lint free rag, then paint. Paint adhesion will vary depending on degree of dirt or contamination and/or lack of abrasion. Glad it's holding up, but thought I'd suggest an extra step for adhesion integrity... back to what your mom said about prep, right? ;)
Oh good to know. Thanks for sharing. ( :
Great tip! I'm doing this to mine, thank you.
Looks great! Thank you for sharing this project with us. This gives me so much inspiration!!
You're welcome! ( :
That came out great! I too am going to paint my brass fireplace. Thank you.
You bet! So glad mine got an updated look!
Thanks for making this video Ashley. I was searching the web to see if I could buy replacement doors and your link popped up; saved us lots of money! Kind of you to share thanks again.
Yay! Glad to hear it!
Great idea, and I love the green cash option 💪👌. It's Easter and I'm going to surprise my love with the new fireplace doors when she gets home. I actually just finished sanding and painting the mantle for her. 😊
Cool!
Looks amazing! Thanks for the tutorial!
You bet!
You did a great job. I decided to take the whole glass door facing off the insert. Then I took the glass out. The frame is only held on by 4 screws. This let me paint it outside instead of in the house. It also took all the masking task away. Easy peasy.
Cool! Thanks for sharing.
Hey Ashley! I'm a big fan od your videos!! Could you please continue making those monthly "What I eat in a day"-videos? They're the best and so so helpful!
Thanks so much for your support! I love the what I eat in a day videos too, and hope to get one out soon, but they are sometimes the most cumbersome to make because of all the footage it takes to make them. But I will try to post more. ( :
Looks good. The stone doesn't even look bad after u painted the brass. Good job
I agree, it was an improvement for sure!
Very nice, looks great Ashley!
Thanks!
I tried that paint and it was very grey compared to our color so I got the semi gloss and it matches wonderfully. Maybe I got a bad can. Very happy with the finished results. I'd post a picture if I knew how.
Strange...that would be frustrating to have it not turn out. Glad you got it to work the second time! ( :
beautiful work
Thanks!
Great job...you just saved me about $350 in not having to order a new door/frame
Yeah! Happy to help. ( :
Perfect! That’s exactly what I want to do
Good luck!
Good jobs Ashley.👍
Thanks!
i have to paint the face and firebox also. the metal face is gloss finish, so after sanding everything, i will use the rust-oleum. good directions amiga.
Glad you found it helpful!
So gonna do this thanks for sharing cuz I have ugly brass as well
Cool! Hope it works out good!
Thank you for the tutorial. I did this yesterday and it came out beautiful.
Glad to hear it!

I can't wait to see your kitchen! When will that video be up?
I'm shooting for next Sunday! ( :
Thank you.
I have 2 fireplAces. One screen popped out so I sprayed black in garage, came out great . Other is fixed. I was afraid to spray in house. I bought flat rustolem to brush on. I wish I saw this before I bought Brush on paint! Great job! Looks fantastic! Did u do kitchen yet? Will watch before I start my kitchen. :-)
Here's the kitchen update: czcams.com/video/svJfrtErnIE/video.html
Yay! Found this vid. before I start my fireplace project! You are adorable, and if you can do it, so can I. I think I'll make a video of my adventure. It's good to offer moral support to others who want to tackle DIY house jobs. You were an inspiration to me. I'm subscribed and liking! A lot!
Glad you found it helpful! I agree showing the video of how you do it, helps other people see how they can do it too! Glad to have you subscribed. ( :
Is it still holding up or has it gotten scratches or dings? I'm painting mine now. I did lightly sand.
Mine has been great!
Is it easy to do without getting runs in the paint?
I didn't have any issues with it.
hey did u already painted your kitchen .we were waiting for the video...
I'm waiting to finish the backsplash before I post the video...should be up soon!
FYI, this will not last long if you do not sand/etch the surface of the brass first. The paint will not last and will just flake off in time. You must sand it first!
Interesting, haven't heard that. We'll see how it holds up, so far so good.
Appletree Homestead, it's not the paint Justin is referring to. It's the proper preparation of the surface. Even the can says to properly prepare the surface; every paint says that. This is because the paint must have something to hold on to.
Appletree Homestead - Jim It is possible to disagree with someone without using an expletive.
Always always always wear a respirator while spray painting.
Hey, can you do a video on how to remove ugly, flaking black BBQ paint from a brass fireplace door in about... 6 months? Thanks
Guess you'll have to keep waiting, it's been over a year and hasn't chipped a bit.
ouch painting beautifull stone
Hey girl you do you and to the haters 🖕🖕🖕 nice job
gold looks better
To each their own.
People, please stop whitewashing your stone! Lol drives me nuts
Good thing it's not your house!
this is not helpful ...you need to show people how step by step instead of talking seriously
she did...how much more do you really need to see, that wasn't covered?
