    We just did this to our fireplace! The new look is phenomenal! I was able to remove the doors and brass pieces to paint. I did sand the brass prior to painting. Used the same flat paint you did. Haven’t used. It yet. I highly recommend the aesthetic change. It modernized the look and looks brand new!

    How well has the paint held up over the past 2 years?? Does it scratch off at all??

  • @lloving21
    @lloving21 Před 5 lety +24

    I'm curious how it's held up without sanding. This is what I've been wanting to do but I dread sanding it, so if I don't have to sand it that would be great!

    Have to agree w one contributor. I would suggest an abrasion step after through cleaning, from a paint ctgs expert;) After sanding w 400-600 grit paper, clean any debris with a lint free rag, then paint. Paint adhesion will vary depending on degree of dirt or contamination and/or lack of abrasion. Glad it's holding up, but thought I'd suggest an extra step for adhesion integrity... back to what your mom said about prep, right? ;)

    Great idea, and I love the green cash option 💪👌. It's Easter and I'm going to surprise my love with the new fireplace doors when she gets home. I actually just finished sanding and painting the mantle for her. 😊

    You did a great job. I decided to take the whole glass door facing off the insert. Then I took the glass out. The frame is only held on by 4 screws. This let me paint it outside instead of in the house. It also took all the masking task away. Easy peasy.

      Thanks so much for your support! I love the what I eat in a day videos too, and hope to get one out soon, but they are sometimes the most cumbersome to make because of all the footage it takes to make them. But I will try to post more. ( :

    I tried that paint and it was very grey compared to our color so I got the semi gloss and it matches wonderfully. Maybe I got a bad can. Very happy with the finished results. I'd post a picture if I knew how.

I wish I saw this before I bought Brush on paint! Great job! Looks fantastic! Did u do kitchen yet? Will watch before I start my kitchen. :-)

    FYI, this will not last long if you do not sand/etch the surface of the brass first. The paint will not last and will just flake off in time. You must sand it first!

    • @AshleysConsciousLife
      @AshleysConsciousLife  Před 7 lety +2

      Appletree Homestead, it's not the paint Justin is referring to. It's the proper preparation of the surface. Even the can says to properly prepare the surface; every paint says that. This is because the paint must have something to hold on to.
