Saw this and tried it, worked great. Changed the whole look of the room. Thanks for the tips.
I just watched your other video on how to paint the brick, and I'm back to see this great one! I think the brass on my gas fireplace is plastic, but I guess I can sand and paint that too! I'll give it a try. You are awesome, thanks. Your daughter is beautiful, and congrats on her graduation. You must be a terrific dad!
Had to use that can of spray on these old fashioned iron baseboard radiators since everything that was on it before had bubbled up from the heat that the housing retained. It ended up working pretty nicely.
Awesome! Going to try this, Thanks
Hey There.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the great videos. Just started my own painting company up here in Canada and it's great to have a series of videos that will help me grow my business.
I am learning alot from you, TY!
Great video and perfect timing for me as I've been wanting to do the same to our fireplace. Sweet!
The Idaho Painter
Thanks. I plan to spray paint a brass bed soon so I guess I need to sand it first.
Great job!
Nicely done!
I just bought a house and your channel has been an absolute godsend. Great info, makes tackling these projects seem possible. Thanks
Glad it has helped
Your videos are the best, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for sharing🤙
Thanks for this. Any advice on giving it a more aged look, like a brushed bronze? Thanks!
I have the exact same fireplace. So glad to see you take the time to explain the mechanics of it. I'm new to DIY and I'd panic about pulling those strips off.
good luck
really nice
UR THE BEST SIR GOD BLESS... N THNKS FOR HELPING US THAT DONT HAVE A CLUE WHERE TO START ON THIS PROJECTS
Love that you showed Joshua 1:9. Nice touch.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I'm about to paint my brass. Just wondering, the inside of my fireplace is all worn and the paint is coming off. Can I use the same spray paint on the inside insert where the flames will be? If not what can I use?
thank you so much for posting this, me and my girlfriend just bought a home that ill be doing this to. i came across a few diy'ers that had video similar to yours but none that actually sanded down the brass first. ill be following your pro advice and subscribing. thanks again.
Thanks for the vid. Any particular grit on the sanding block?
Thanks :>
Can you paint fireplace hearth ? I believe I have a slab stones, very old style in black and red that I really want to change but don't want to replace entire thing . Would it be safe ?
Great video turned out really nice. New subscriber.
Loved this video! My husband told me I would have to sand the brass before painting it and may feel more confident with my DYI project now that I watched your tutorial. It was a great step by step process explained very well! Also, thank you for the Bible verse: Joshua 1:9! I looked it and love it! PTL!
Can you also paint other metals to look like different ones (i.e. chrome to gold??)
Looking sharp and updated.
Going to tackle my 90's brass fireplace rails this weekend.
Thanks for the tips.
Nice post . Cool channel . Keep it up 👍
Much more professional advice than I got from other videos about painting brass.
Wondering if you need to prime it with etching primer. I have seen a few videos of people saying that you need to prep it with that to make sure the paint sticks long term. Thoughts???
Where might I find your bid package?
I have a brass bed I want to paint black. Would I use the same technique and same paint in this video?
Thanks for the video. It gave me the confidence to paint our brass fireplace trim black. I used Rustoleum high heat semi gloss like you did. Followed your instructions.... Turned out great. Thank you.
What grit of sandpaper
Can you do this on a ceiling fan?
Great videos! In your outdoor siding videos do you have any tutorials on painting overlapping siding and how to edge in around the Windows? I see in some videos you are directly painting on the window trim. Do you come back and paint the window trim white?
You are the Man 10/10

You have a really cool channel. You need to find a production company that will create a series for you and shop it to cable TV.
That would be cool!
I’m looking to paint my brass derringer and it brought me here 😳 but good vid 😀
👍
Great instructions! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Is there a reason you spray painted and not brush painted? Rust-oleum has a can of high heat paint I've already bought, but haven't started this project yet. Anyways, thank you
Hi. I'm very interested in the possibility of using black stove paint on my tired old brass exterior door hardware. I've seem umpteen articles regarding using Rust-Oleum paint for this purpose, but the consensus seems to be that the application doesn't last -that- long. Then someone commented about the possibility of using stove paint on the door hardware (handle, deadbolt.....the works), as it is used on brass fireplaces. Please help me. Thank you in advance.

What kind of sandpaper did you use, grit?
320 grit wet sanding recomended
Is this actual brass or just brass color?
Thanks for the video! We lightly sanded our brass surround but now it seems to be blotchy where it was sanded more or less. Should we just keep applying coats or any other tips?
Several coats of primer
Ya but what about curing the paint? I heard the paint won’t hold up without curing
When did John Cena start a CZcams channel? Lol jk thanks for the video!!
I didn't see anyone..... The brass was being painted itself!
Tell the whistler to stop, it's annoying! LOL Great info and instructions
Wlll this work on shower frame
Exactly how I ended up on this video. To find out if I can paint my shower frame
Thank you for the video. On the topic of painting brass, I paint antique cameras which are made from brass. I’ve been looking for a product that has better sticking power than a rustoleum spray cans. It chips off quite easily. Yes I sand and clean thoroughly. Any help would be appreciate!

I wonder if a bonding primer used first would help. Or, a self etching primer. You can also look into putting on a clear coat to protect the color coat.
Hii! I did this same exact process, but the paint is scratching off fairly easily. How to prevent this? Did you face this issue?
Sand
@@Idahopainter scuff sanded with 180 after a diligent clean. I also read it may take up to 6 months to cure? so maybe its too soon to tell. Thanks for getting back!
I did that once...spray painting from a can inside a home...NEVER again!! Gave me a headache for days not to mention the smell plus overspray everywhere...
How much can I charge to paint a fireplace like that in CA?🤔
$350
awesome thanks. suggest a before and after clip at the very end so lazy people dont have to rewind. LOL
lol, okay I will consider that!
I love the added bible verses! Great video.
Thanks for watching!
The way you talk is too adorable. I can’t concentrate on the instruction, over my amusement.
I really appreciate you guys and the videos that you put out; you have helped me so much as a DIYer.
I just did only the firebox frame, and the frame of the glass panel in the last 24 hours in my home. I had a plastic tent from floor to ceiling around the entire area, taped around the bottom of the plastic tent, and a tight seal around plastic at ceiling too. Made sure that the flappers were closed for the doorway. And I still have over spray outside of that tent. I’m a bit shocked. 😫Additionally, I only had an N 95 construction mask, as well as an N 95 medical mask at my disposal. I had paint in my nose despite having both of those on…
I did get a respirator mask for the glass panel portion, and the filters are soot black.
I am concerned for your lungs that you did all that spraying without a mask on for the video. 😓
And I am shocked that there is not overspray everywhere such as the bookcase in the background that was not covered.
Is there a way to spray without any escaping even my extensive efforts of containing it? Which is far more than what most DIYers would do.
I invested in a construction fan with a large hose similar to what y’all use for cabinets - bc I will have to do my cabinets in the future;
but the plastic that I had was not heavy enough so I was afraid of it sucking my tent down… However I do have it running right now at a window to try to get this toxic air that is still emitting from the tent out.
I’m torn as I want to finish the remaining brass pieces/grill right now too; but am wondering do I just stop & wait until it warms up outside in another three months… Or do I just keep going and deal with the additional overspray for the remaining three pieces?… 😢
none of your click in the video links work
The link to the video on repairing fish eyes does not work. We need it. My husband didn't follow your advice and just washed brass with water, not the Dawn soap. He has little bubble-ups all over the brass 🙄. What now?
I guess they just rotate and pop off.
Man spray paint in there house?
That brass is beautiful! Why the hell would that customer want to ruin a beautiful fireplace!?? 💔😥
Cause its ugly
Some people just do not like brass.
didn't know John Cena could paint brass.
Wow, I didn’t know that either
Actually, though? Can we actually watch how you actually painted the actual red brick?
Thrirdly: When did the fireplace take on a new color..? Hoiw did that happen without us knowing it?
Bonus, you paint the cabinets and everything else not covered.
Of course
Why would paint them in the house.... This is DUM don't you think !!!
Nope
Paint life explained why in the video. Perhaps watch it again.
Yikes. I dont mind painting the brass black, especially if there is no other matching brass in the room. However, that white fireplace is awful. The white bricks look like tile, which makes it look like a bathroom.
PAINT THE MANTEL BROWN AND NOT THE BRASS
Good idea!
Coulda went without the unrelated shrieking teenagers in the beginning.
Second: You spend over half the video showing us how you took the bass apart on fireplace. I thought this was simply a painting job!!! Not good
All part of it
