    Honestly, you could've just noted the stamping on the block skirts (where the upper oil pan is mated to the block) at the rear right corner (seen in the video on the right lower corner of the skirt). Those are the main journal diameters. Also, the crankshaft is stamped for all it's journal measurements ranges from 1-5 and. They do this for discrepancies in manufacturing and they can still maintain a VERY high tolerance standard.

    • @PoorManMods
      @PoorManMods  Před 2 lety

      Yes, you're correct and that would have saved me some trouble . I believe at the time those markings were unable to be seen because of dirt or corrosion. I was looking for them and could not find them. Then when I took the engine block to the machine shop they hot tanked it and they found them.

    @TM-fx5le Před 10 měsíci

    There are marks on the block and the crankshaft for the bearing sizes, if it is difficult to see on the bearings themselves on the 1UZ.
    Adding them together gives your bearing size needed, it’s in the 1UZ engine service manual.

  • @johannriedlberger4390
    @johannriedlberger4390 Před 10 měsíci +1

    Got my parcel from Summit Racing just today. I was close to reuse my old piston rings because they are just inside specs. Toyota says just: discontinued. Also ordered 2 sets of 6 rings. To order one set of 6 and 2 extra is pointless because only a coupe of bucks difference. The problem with the thinner rings from 1997 on is not easy to find.

  • @michealsneed1482
    @michealsneed1482 Před 2 lety +1

    Interesting. On the bearing ranks for that engine. During the machining process the crank caps are tightened to the block and a boring bar goes through and cuts all the journals together and then each hole is measured and a rank is given for each journal, so the journal and the cap should be the same. The same is done to the crank, then you use the numbers from both to determine what bearing size to use for each journal. The top and bottom are always the same size. At least that's how it is for all of the engines I have been involved with.

    YOUR SUPPOSE TO MEASURE END GAP WITH THE RING AT 50% TRAVEL OR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CYLINDER NOT AT THE TOP WHICH IS A WIDER HOLE, ALL 3 RINGS MOUNTED AT 120 DEGREES APART BUT DOES NOT MATTER AS THEY TRAVEL AT THERE OWN PACE ON EACH STROKE MANUALLY LIKE A CLOCK MINUTE HAND, WHILE YOUR COMPRESSING THE RINGS AND ENTERING THE PISTON, YOU FORGOT TO PROTECT THE CRANKSHAFT SURFACE FOR ACCIDENTAL ROD CONTACT, USE WOODEN DOWELS STICKS OR SIMILAR SO THE ROD HALF MOON WONT HIT THE JOURNAL AND WILL BE GUIDED DOWNWARDS CORRECTLY

      From what I've read, it's not the crank thats the limiting factor for boost. For the later 1UZ, it's the thin rods. Same for the 3UZ as well, but the 3UZ has a thinner cylinder wall. I've heard that you can run 3-5 psi in the later 1UZ and the 3UZ and not have issues. I've seen a guy run 7 psi with an eaton supercharger on the 3UZ, but it wasn't a daily.

I know that the theory is that new rings need a new hone to seat "properly" but it looks like yours seated just fine looking at your newer videos. Have you had any oil consumption issues past the break in period on the rebuild? • @PoorManMods

      @@tobiasbjorkbacka6980 It's pretty common knowledge that torque to yield bolts, especially in very crucial applications like main caps and rod caps are one-time use. I just did not want to risk it. It's not mega expensive to get new bolts and if for some reason your old ones don't torque properly..that can be mega expensive when you find out later down the road.
      A good friend of mine is also a technician at Lexus, he said for warranty work that involved head bolts or main bolts, etc. They would not replace them if it was warranty work to keep the cost down, but he extremely recommended that I replace mine for the extra insurance.
