    Beautiful work… all my knits are in my grandchildren’s closets… and they start from newborn to 18 years old. A grandmother’s dream to see her grands wearing outfits that she has knitted… You work is lovely.

    I’m with you. I don’t wash my sweaters either. I have had one sweater for years and have washed it twice. Now I don’t wear it all the time because it is scratchy. But all of the sweaters I made last winter were only washed when I finished them. I worry about stretching them too.

    love them aaaaallllll!! you are right about garments washing and I think you got the very right word: hysteria. People usually don't understand how useless is to wash garments so often, expecially the animal based ones. it ruins the garments and the environment too. We should be conscious about that! Thank you for spreading this message

Please don't feel ashamed/guilty or any other negative feeling for using drops. I do find there's a conflict within between buying from ethical sources and what I can afford, but sometimes the seasons of life dictate what we can afford and that's ok.

    You are so right about the laundering!
    We are Viking re-enactors and the wool items are really best with a gentle rinse at the end of the season (to get the wood smoke and any stains out) and nothing else . . . In fact l have been told that rolling them in snow is the best method, or putting them in the freezer overnight! (Wouldn't the freezer damage the fibres?)
    Our linen garments, though . . . After every day or two of wear. And the more you wash them the softer and more comfortable they become!

    Beautiful work! You really inspired me to create more light and fluffy pieces. I also barely ever wash my wool garments! Maybe once a year for my heavy wearers. This other podcaster mentioned how she has to wash her garments after every time she wears it, my mind was blown 😂 And I thought I was the only one who used conditioner, haha. I have this bar tallow based conditioner and it’s so easy and nice to add a little to the water. Makes everything sooooo soft. Love it!

    Thanks for showing all your beautiful work! The Felix is on my fall list and will probably be my first big knit of the season. Now I'm finishing a leftover vest (in alpaca and merino!) that I stopped when the weather got too hot. I love this yarn and it comes from an alpaca farm - maybe find one of those over there in Italy? It is scratchy, but will be worn over shirts so I'm not worried and I love how it looks and feels, even though scratchy.

    I was wondering if you could fold the neckline of the dark green nutiden sweater, and put a thin elastic inside the neckband to make it less "pointy". I wonder if you would like it more that way. The sweater truly looks good on you in that shape and length, but I know the feeling is the most important thing! 😊

  • @AllHomesteading
    @AllHomesteading Před 11 měsíci +1

    With the green nutiden sweater with the funnel neck, I would add some wide elastic at the neckline and you have enough riibbing at the neckline to fold it over to add a more fitted, lowever neckline. Just a suggestion! :)

    It's completely fine not to wash your wool knits! I'm from the Netherlands and here it is said that you can 'wash' them by laying it down in the snow in winter. Same for wool blankets etc! Wool is simply amazing with its dirt repelling qualities 🐏🐑

    Sweaters should be washed before storage at the end of the season. Especially if they will be in a corner/forgotten place in your wardrobe, not move or touch "regularly". Clothes moth are not really attracted by wool or natural fibers themselves, but more by the dirt on it such as sweat, any kind of spill, etc. So better to be safe than sorry. A quick wash at the end of sweater season and it's all good.
    This recommandation doesn't really apply for "silver fish" as they can eat whatever they want, clean or not 😅

    Beautiful knits knitted by a lovely knitter.
    But…I must ask about the whole Drops story. You mentioned that the cost would indicate people were mistreated down the production line, have you researched companies like Apple? Their prices are astronomical yet….🤔

    • @wegrowild
      @wegrowild  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yeah I agree! The price doesn't necessarily tell much about care and fairness. However, when it comes to animals, if they're involved (like in this case), that might add an extra layer of exploitation 😔

    I love your channel and I love all your wears that you make but you definitely lost me on the ethical portion of the drops silk. You were talking about what happens down the line in the miss treatment of animals and then you said that you get joy and happiness out of wearing it. That was a little confusing.

    • @wegrowild
      @wegrowild  Před 11 měsíci

      Maybe I didn't explain it well, I meant that, yes, there is very little to no care during the production of some of their yarns, and that's something I do not support, however I use and honor the garments I make out of those yarns even more, to over compensate the lack of care that there was during the creation of them. You can still honor and cherish the garments you create so much, holding them dearly to your heart, sending good thoughts to the animals and the people involved and that brings more care into the world. I know that it might sound like an excuse but I truly belive it.
