    I think a V-neck and shorter overall length looks great on you, like your newest white sweater. It was fun seeing all your sweaters and hearing your comments. We knitters learn by doing and by making mistakes. This applies to all aspects of knitting as you clearly demonstrated. I tend to shy away from knitting garments and stick to blankets, shawls, accessories -- things that don't have to fit my body.

      Thank you for the nice comment!
      Accessories definitely are much more forgiving if you don't happen to swatch or use different yarn, which can be a nice change of pace. I just love having a wardrobe full of handmade items 😊

    your vest jumped out at me. I made a vest too and didnt wear it for several years. I realized I didnt have the right top to go under it. Now I have a denim blouse going under it and I get compliments all the time. I think your vest shouts for one too.
    Beautiful work you have done! You are inspiring me to make more sweaters and vests!

    I admire how many different construction methods that you've tried and mastered. It inspired me to move away from round yoke top-down sweaters and give a saddle shoulder a try. I knit the V-neck vest from PetiteKnit also and feel the same way as you do about not being thrilled with wearing it. I did learn a lot: V-neck construction was new to me / found out that yakpaca yarn is very stiff (although softened considerably after blocking / rowing out was evident on the upper portion that was knit flat before joining in the round - again, the yakpaca emphasized and I have since learned how to minimize that problem from Patty Lyons book / finally, I did it in a chocolate brown color that was just TOO drab so ended up adding some aqua freeform "doo-dads" in duplicate stitch on the front bottom above the ribbing to add some interest.

      Definitely many lessons learned in those first pieces! And even newer ones. Knitting is a journey but I love it.

    What a lovely collection of knits. I still remember my first sweater - It was the Flax and far from perfect. Several dropped stitches I fixed by double-knitting the dropped stitch and tying the ends together at the back. I have never worn it because it was too heavy, made with superwash and just ill-fitting. Still, it was a great learning experience and some day I will frog to re-use the yarn for either a blanket or cardigan. It was fun to see your knits as your knitting evolved.

    • @Enig_Mata
      @Enig_Mata Před 8 měsíci

      @@Goodknits_ Yes, it was a great experience because it took the mystery out of knitting a sweater. I have since had many successful knits. This past year since to be my year of cardigans even though I tell myself I don't like purling. I have finished the Champagne cardigan, Agnete, modified the Jenny sweater to make it v-neck, a modified Eva cardigan and trying to decide on my next knits. Sharing your works is very helpful to many because they can see that they may not get it 100% right the first time, but their skills will improve if they stick with it.

    @dawnbater9014 Před 8 měsíci

    I love that you told us new knitters about your mistakes. I am knitting my first sweater and I have had to rip back so may times. No one ever talks about that. ps i’m doing the sleeves right now and i didnt swatch. i’m worried the sleeves will grow so much.

    • @Goodknits_
      @Goodknits_  Před 8 měsíci

      Really glad it was helpful for me to share that part about my knitting journey. The first sweater is always the hardest. I also have so many tops (still to this day) where I end up having to rip back or start over completely. So try not to get too discouraged.
      For your sweater, I'd suggest you already do a blocking of your sweater so you can see how much it grows before you completely finish it. Better to know that now before you finish both sleeves so you don't need to rip them back out and re-do. And going forward i cannot recommend gauge swatching enough. Especially if you use different yarn that the pattern recommended. I didn't do it for so long and that is why those first few sweater really didn't turn out as I expected..
      Good luck!

    I think maybe the reason the one doesn't blouse over is because the ribbing underneath is also bigger, so it doesn't sinch against your body as much, meaning the fabric in the middle doesn't have anything forcing it to drape over. Just a theory IDK

    @kyjanice Před 8 měsíci

    How much time approximately you need to knit each sweater?

    • @Goodknits_
      @Goodknits_  Před 8 měsíci

      Completely depends if I am dedicating my entire focus to a single project or not. If I look at my ravelry for the sweaters I made without many other projects on the go (like my Oslo or Una) I can make one in about a month. A lot of the sweaters I showed took almost a year simply because I would get distracted by other projects and then put them to the side. Now if I cast on something new I try to dedicate most of my focus so I can finish things in under 2 months.
