At this point, the first question I ask myself before starting a beautiful cosy project is " am I going to ware this ? " . More often then not, the answer is "nope!"😊... I’m based on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, close to Valencia and the weather here is too hot all Year round to be able to wear all the glorious woolly pullovers! Me toooooo!!! I would Encourage you to Write your First Pattern with that Self-Drafted Halter, I havent seen anything quite like it as of yet..... And Summer Tops and Tees, are more Sparse, and there is a Need for More Summer and Lightweight Garments.

My comment showing my concerns on the Auguste cardigan is mentioned here! Since you said you could make it, perhaps I could succeed as well, after over 4 years of knitting! I do love the design of the cardigan.
I also don’t like splurging on yarn. I tend to not go over 100 USD so the Filcorana mohair price in AUD was shocking 😳 (in Korea I have access to so many affordable yarn cones and sale on some European yarns.)
I couldn’t stand some mohair even if it’s pricy but I’m getting used to some and they do last longer 😊
Your Auguste is so encouraging for me right now. I. bought a cone of fairly rustic 4ply from the charity shop. It was only £1.49 for 800g! Not next-to-skin soft at all but I loved the warm neutral colour. I was on a trip to Copenhagen last week having a wonderful time visiting all the yarn stores and decided to take a gamble and spring for some Filcolana Tilia to hold double with it. I was scared that it would still come out feeling a bit rough and I would have wasted the Tilia. Your Auguste gives me hope 🤗 🤞🏼

I think the commonalities in my makes are silhouette and fibre content and weight. In that regard it means they're not hugely adventurous but it means I always feel put together without being totally matchy matchy.
Why change perfection - sounds like you have the perfect recipe for knits you'll wear often and enjoy! ☺

Thank goodness you didn’t quit the cardigan with mohair, even though you weren’t happy with the color initially. Oh my goodness,that cardigan is absolutely magnificent on you! The color the pattern the fit! How do you get your projects to fit so beautifully?
You're so kind, thank you!! The fit is definitely a lot of trial and error and I have a lot of garments which don't fit as well 😅 At the moment I'm focusing on getting my gauge as close as possible and I've figured out that I like at least +10cm positive ease, for the most part!

Thank you for making videos for the warmer climates! I moved to Australia (Lismore) from Switzerland over 15 years ago and am still adjusting with my knitting. I have tons of beautiful knitted sweaters and shawls I rarely wear. It is always inspiring to see what you are knitting. Your favorite knits are all very beautiful. I also find that my most worn knits are actually cardigans (Elton -Joji Locatelli and Copenhagen cardigan-Petite Knits) and shorter sleeved knits such as the Anker tee for example. 🏵🌺🌻
Hi Nadine. I live in Canada so I can wear my knits alot. My favorite sweater is a Felix Pullover and it is in a beautiful teal. I could wear it every day and always have some type of shirt under it so I don't have to wash it that much. I really enjoy your podcasts. You put so much work into them and you are a wonderful knitter. The Auguste is now in my favorites in Ravelry.

I’m one of the 75 people who have knitted the Auguste cardigan 😂 mine is a dusty pink version. I love mine too and I love how the cables elevate the look.

Thank you for this episode. I, too, live in a very hot climate (Southern California desert) and I find I get the most wear out of my cardigans and halter tops. I’m currently knitting an Anker Tee which is a light fingering weight and very excited to add that to my wardrobe. If it works as well as I’m hoping it will then I can see me adding more light fingering weight tees to my collection.
Light fingering weight tees seem like the perfect answer to hot climates like ours. A fingering weight Anker Tee sounds amazing!!
Great video. I've learned over the years that although I'm not in a warm climate (Canada), I can't wear heavy bulky sweaters. That's because I'm old lol! And before retiring, if I couldn't wear something under a blazer in the office, it wasn't getting worn. So good insight on yourself as well!
Haha! How interesting to hear that bulky sweaters are out of the question for you as well, even with the climate in Canada. It sounds like we have similar taste in office attire - a blazer makes everything look good ☺

Another well thought out video! Thanks Nadine for all your work and thoughts. When I am selecting a cardigan or pullover pattern the first thing I am drawn to is the shoulder design, love it when that part is a little different and more eye catching.

I have a couple of cardigans I love, but find that even though I live in the US where it does get cold in the winter, I still love my summer knits in plant-based fibers and with lots of lace. Coincidentally, I've current creating my own halter-type top as you did, but with wider straps to allow a regular bra underneath. Thanks for your thoughtful episode!!

This is my first time listening to your podcasts and I very much enjoyed your style and presentation. I loved all your garments and found it so interesting to hear the reasons behind your choices. I was checking YarnSub for a substitute for the Bendigo Woolen Mills yarn (as I'm in the UK) and according to their site it is a superwash yarn, though of course they may be incorrect. I especially loved your Self-drafted Halter and the Antler Cardigan - I can definitely see myself making the latter. I wouldn't try the Auguste because I do need my 'hand held' as regards the pattern. I like to have step by step, row by row instructions! I also might make the Ankers Summer Shirt. I like many of Petite Knits designs.

Wonderful video Nadine! The Auguste cardigan looks like the Mamba sweater I'm working on, and I've had the same issue with the pattern--it's less row by row and more paragraph written, which took a bit to get used to. I also had to tink back more than once.

i love your self drafted top - i really like the combo of the folded neck and garter stitch panels. i've been thinking to make a mini mock tank by jessie mae which has a similar look but i might take inspo from your garter panel and see if i can modify the pattern to include it.

Love your videos and natural style. As an Aussie knitter (hunter valley nsw) I find the cost of yarn and shipping costs make it too expensive to experiment making different garments especially when many patterns call for two yarns to be held together. Your recommendations of Aussie yarn substitutes for your knits would be most appreciated.

I enjoyed this so much. Your halter you designed is beautiful! Cardigan patters are great for the summer season, here in Texas. Even though it gets hot, most stores keep the air set at a very cold temperature. It's nice to have a hoodie or a Cardigan ready. Thank you for showing us some beautiful options to knit.

My personal favorite is Louvre sweater knit with one strand of brown, grey, ivory mixed hand-dyed lace yarn and ivory 100% wool cone. I love the color and the standard fit.
I also love my winter Ranunculus knit in pink mohair and wool 💓 It’s cropped and comfortable.
I have to choose other patterns for summer because we have both extremely cold winter and very hot and humid summer here! I can just barely wear any cotton knits in summer!

I feel like it’s almost a form of insanity but I compensate by knitting shawls and such that are not as hot as a big old pullover as you mentioned. I would make more cardigans but I don’t like purling so much but I am planning to start a cardigan here soon.
It will prob take me forever but that’s ok I guess. Lol

Thank you for such a wonderful round-up! Where I live we have HOT and muggy summers (35-40 C) and mild winters so I am always on the lookout for summer knitwear. I just finished a Tolsta Tee in 60/40 bamboo/cotton blend and it's sooooooo comfortable. So comfortable that I am knitting myself another one again (the Tolsta Tee lends itself to so many variations). Again, great episode, I really enjoy your channel!

Hi Nadine, I like garment that are nice to wear to the office. I like light garment that are not to heavy or hot. I love all of the garments that you made. I am a new knitter so I am staying with simple but I am willing to try a little bit of challenge I have knit one tank top out of truboo. Pretty close to Nuboo. That was my first garment. I have a lot of truboo and was thinking about the cream tee that you made, just because I have so much of it and your cream top looked beautiful and Tin Can Knits really do explain very well for a new Knitter. I think I’ll give that a try. Thank you for sharing. Very helpful to see what you make and the yarn that you use is very helpful to me.
I enjoyed watching your video. Your knits look lovely on you and I can see why you go to them as staples in your wardrobe. I have yet to knit a Ranunculus but I do have some linen yarn I've purchased for it. I'm knitting the Ilha by Orlane Sucche in Woolfolk Tynd. I'm doing short sleeves. It reminds me of the Ranunculus and so far I'm loving the design. It has raglan shaping after the lace yolk and a rib down the side of the body. You might like it as well. I think it's been knit in a variety of yarns.
Love your garments and yes difficult heat wise for our summers (WA). I have been using Holst Garns's Coast for that reason. A cotton/wool blend with many amazing colours. It's a thinner fingering weight yarn. Has spinning oil still in but once washed comes up nicely. Can be ordered directly from them. They have sample cards which are well worth investing in. For bottom up garments best to do provisional cast on and once garment is completed we can then do ribbing to correct length. Never stop learning with knitting which is why I love it so much. Some wonderful tips, thank you! I'll have to put Holst Garn Coast on my list and the provisional cast on for bottom up is just so smart.
Do you wash the Holst after finishing your project or do you wash before knitting? I’ve heard people recommend both ways.

Check out Andrea Mowry and Stephen West Patterns. They are Incredibly Well-Written, Clear and I tend to wear them more than other garments I have made. Their Visual Interest draws me EVERY TIME. Also Jen Geigley, and Jennifer Steingass.....
Love your thoughts on what your fav garments have in common. I too agree that colours are fun to knit but neutrals are much more wearable. Starting a light grey Esther cardigan by Petite Knit and I’m hoping it will be a staple!

Hey. Thanks for sharing. My most worn items are the most practical ones and the ones I have with me. I live in India now and also travel for years. So it's often lightweight or super practical items. Like my absolute favorite is my winterfolk cardigan by joji locatelli. Its like a coat with hood but flowy. I use it as a blanket, pillow or coat in between. Super practical.

Great information. I’m still watching and wanted to remember to ask if you have worked with Wagtail Yarns? They are a beautiful mohair business and they are in Childers! Very close to you, amazingly soft, single origin mohair with the most glorious colour range and they also supply wool and mohair mixes. I know you aren’t going to make a lot of mohair garments but it’s worth knowing about locally sourced incredible fibres. Sadly BWM LUXURY is no longer non-superwashed. I love your look in Anker’s top. Simple, elegant, beautifully made.
I’m glad you talked about the Anker Summer shirt. I have that pattern, but never knit it. I actually forgot I have it, but think I will knit it now.
On your Antler cardigan, why don’t you undo the sleeve ribbing then knit down and lengthen them? I did that with a bottom up tank to make it longer after I was finished and it worked out well
My most worn garments are my oversized long sleeved raglans. Stratosphere, Warm up sweater and Autumn league. They’re like comfy sweatshirts. All faulty Plain, maybe marled but I don’t wear my colorwork sweaters. I also wear my Heya tanks a lot. That pattern was free but is not any more
I was just reflecting recently that i only wear my knitted cardigans. I never wear the pullovers!!!

Loved all of your knits, they fit you perfectly and your self drafted halter top is elegant with a beautiful silhouette. My Ravelry favourites has a new addition now, the Auguste cardi. A tip for knitting with mohair, if you have to tink back/unravel, place the item in a cloth bag such as a pillow case and put in the freezer for an hour or two, the fibres contract which makes it so much easier and far less tears. I love adapting patterns too, just finished knitting the Flax for my 2 yr old grandson and his new baby sister, except converted them into cardigans, with pockets on my grandson's. I've used Strange Brew so many times for my brood, I think it should be in every knitter's pattern stash.

I personally don’t use mohair on my sweaters. I have yet to understand why people seem to feel like they have to add it to all their designs. I don’t like the “fuzzy “ look on my sweaters; more work and more cost.
Hello, Nadine. I really appreciate your reflections on finding patterns and fibers that work well in your climate. I have some hand-dyed mohair that I bought on a whim, and I'm considering holding it together with a merino-cotton blend (Wooldreamers' Saona) to try to extend its wearability to spring and autumn.
