- Little revisit of "7empest" by TOOL with on-screen tabs - updated with recent live events and social media reveals.
Hope you enjoy the video! Please post your suggestions! :)
I figured this was necessary at some point... As a little 10.000 subscriber "special", I've refined all Fear Inoculum tabs. Especially the 7empest tab is now much more accurate and prettier. Invincible and Fear Inoculum remain untouched, Descending and Culling Voices have some new corrections. Pneuma has been updated according to Adam's Instagram post.

A big thanks to all of you for 10.000 days... eh subscribers and over a frickin' million views total!!! It's really surreal to me, couldn't have done it without your support. Word goes out especially to my wonderful patrons, it really means a lot!
For this milestone I've refined all Fear Inoculum tabs. The biggest one is "7empest", the video above is just one chapter of the changed material. "Pneuma" also received updates after some social media information. "Descending" and "Culling Voices" got some retouches and corrections from the feedback of you all. "Fear Inoculum" and "Invincible" remain untouched at this point. You can review the changes on my website, all for free.
Also, I made a Reddit account for this channel (maxniessl) and will be active in e.g. r/ToolBand in the future. Cheers :)
Edit: And by the way! CZcams _actually_ did something useful with the chapter feature. I added those for every letter in the Fear Inoculum vids and Eulogy :)
Actually these numbers are way to low considering the astonishing quality of your videos ;)
@@ChRiiDDaY I'm very content with those numbers! Thank you so much, man! :)
You're so 7alented, keep it up man!
No man, Thank You
greetins from México
Max Niessl how did you get the music in background of vid?
Nice work!
The majority of the son is a solo hahaha, anyway, the Octave 14 11 14 thing, what?? Now I know. Adam is a genius, and so are you!
Haha yes! I'm not _entirely_ sure about that octaver part, because he plays something _completely_ different live, but that's the only thing I know :)
Great job man, your a perfectionist, always look forward to your covers.
Thank you! I really am haha :D
@@MaxNiessl love the videos thanks. I am a huge Tool fan. If I want to learn more Tool songs through teaching videos ( played slower in an instructional format)or even periodic video call sessions, do you offer any services like that for patreon?
@@allboutthemojo Thanks! I'm definitely thinking about doing some face to face lessons via Discord. Currently, I'm a bit busy, though :(
@@MaxNiessl ok. Please post if you do decide to start that.
@@MaxNiessl Max, got a question about your Tool covers. Are you recording the audio signal from your guitar and the song from your computer or using the external camera mic? It sounds very clear. If you are recording via usb or some guitar to computer interface, what is it and which software are you using?
I guess most of us didnt even notice this small details until you uploaded this video
7empest is fucking guitar solo perfection. Guitar solos are overplayed today but damn Adam Jones knows how to do it right.
I SEE MAX I LIKE.
I didn't know how much i needed to see that
Did Adam show how to play that weird modulated crazy sounding part on his insta or something? That sounds pretty spot on even without whatever pedal he used to get that digital chaos sound. I gotta come back to this song now that you decoded it! Thanks for all your hard work and making your tabs free! You're a great inspiration to me and all your content really helps me out a lot! I'm learning Cubensis right now and it's a blast to play!
Thank you very much! Glad you like my non-tool content as well, bud 🤘 Adam hasn't shown how to play that weird alien part unfortunately. He hasn't played it live either - doesn't use similar effects live. The notes are so clear in the studio version, though, so either he plays something like this or he really had luck with recording the mentioned pick scrapes :D
It's gotta be the Pikasynth.
@@MaxNiessl my guess... When I met him he told me how he gets the seagull sounds in Stinkfist, by rubbing the side of his pick against his top string until it ate little burs into the side of the pick, then gently scraping those burs across the strings with distortion... It's possible that technique might play a role in creating the overall sound with those notes that you are playing there, and maybe a pedal thrown in as well.
onya Max, pleasure to listen
Nice work !!
Thanks for uploading my favorite part of the whole song
Keep bringing it, we aint goin anywhere, better, we might bring even more people to your party!
but seriously, congrats dude, i have loads of fun playing along your covers!
cheers max.
Awesome! Happy to hear that! You're very welcome, Luís :)
Your guitar 😍😍 its so beautiful man!!
Holy shit. 0:43 sounds the most accurate of any cover I've seen. Good job, Max!
That was impressive, you did really well. xD
This is mint mate.
i always follow your covers, but the TOOL ones expecially are my faves, your pneuma is killer and your skill and dedication in learning each song is outstanding
Thank you! 🤘
@@MaxNiessl Sehr gerne! Du spielst Tool Kompositionen! Ich revidiere Sie viele Male!
This suddenly made a lot more sense, aweseom job man
I've really enjoyed your covers with the play-along tabs. They make learning the songs way easier and more enjoyable, keep it up.
It's always a pleasure to watch you play. You really pay attention to the small details and that's what I appreciate the most about your playing.
Thanks, man! Glad you like it. I really wanted to iron this bit out :D
You absolutely nailed it man. Congrats
Fuck yes dude! Great playing, tone, nailed it 👌
Thanks, dude! 🤘
Awesome work Max! Thank you!!! By the way, your Mastodon cover section is a little light ;)
Thanks! I know, needs some expansion :)
Max- really awesome job with this one. My fav one on the album...I am putting this on my list to cover soon and will be using your cover for the guidance! Great playing! \m/
Superb as always
Amazing, keep it up!
Nicely done mate!
your a beast dude. awesome
Adam is one of my favorite guitarists and definitely someone I look up to as a guitarist myself. I really appreciate the work youve put in and I'm glad I'm not the only guitarist who loves Adam's play style lol
Thanks, bud!
Amazing!
Nailed it
so nice cover 🤘😊🤘
Perfect!
Nice job bro' ! :D
Still the best Tool covers on yt!!!
F*ckin AWESOME
Great job Max, thanks for doing this, its a big inspiration for me 🔥🤝
Thank you, as always, man! :)
@@MaxNiessl 🤝👍🙏💪🔥
I’m sorry but how fucking naughty are those artificial harmonics in bar 427, especially the first note with the bend! It gives me goosebumps 🔥
I know right! Gotta love those 🤘
Legend !!!
Oh man... Welp... I remember when I saw you post the video for 7empest the first time, I got about 85% of it, and now... Well shoot... I got to revisit it now because... Because you posted it and now I have too 😂
Once again bro, awesome stuff. Your commitment to wanting the songs freakin perfect is just amazing. My favorite place to come to learn Tool, 100% Keep it up my dude!! 👍🏼😎🤘🏼
Awesome, Sarge! Glad to do so, very committed to release the best content possible! Have fun 🤘
Oooh a suprise to be sure but a welcome one 😁
Waaaay better than the original version, well done !
Hug
Thanks for this man. For some reason I felt like the triplet riff involves a jambi pull through-ish technique instead of the usual triplet roll. Even though I felt that way I figured I might be wrong since everyone I see has been playing it with a triplet roll. Playing this way does make it sound more closer to the real thing. Cheers and congrats on the 10k!!
Any word on what song comes next? :D
You're welcome! The thing is, I don't here the A string, like _at all_ ,so I actually think it's not the pull-through. I really want to do more Karnivool or a Kolm song :)
You should do Third Eye or pushit salival you would kill it! #LongJams
🤘
I am gonna try 'The Riff' from this one . Looks alot like that part in pneuma
Love it! Have you tried the pull-through technique with the hammer on and pull offs bit?
Of course! But didn't sound right. I don't hear the A string in the riffing. At the end of the first appearance you can hear it most clearest. I could be wrong, though, nothing is confirmed. That's why I wrote it above the tab :)
very good! cound you do pushit? that messy part at the end is hard to figure
You should do "The Patient"
That was awesome! How do you get that music in background? I can’t figure it out!
Great as always Max. What camera do you use? I like you video quality. 😉👍
Thank you, Paul, as always! 🤘 I'm actually using two mobile phone cameras (One Plus 6 for front and Samsung A50 for the side), so nothing fancy. Your video quality is way better, what equipment are you using? :)
@@MaxNiessl I can't believe you use only Mobil phones. The quality is so good. I use a Sony A6500. Sigma lens 16mm in my newest video. Normally a Sigma lens 30mm.
@@PaulKingMetal Thank you for sharing, still considering buying a proper camera sometime in the future ☺️
Was hoping it was the full song🎧😜
Unfortunately, I've got no time for that right now haha 😉
🥺
🤪
hey i just noticed you have an interesting way of doing pinch harmonics, where you pick then hit the string with your ring finger. that super interesting had no idea you could do that. i learned bu pinching the pick so your thumb hits the string. Can you elaborate a bit on your technique?
Through The Fire & Flames next?
Please do Forty Six & 2 next!
omg someone please tell me where I can buy that shirt!!
Hey Max, as always a nice job! Question, how do you like your Kemper? How long you had yours and at this point would you still recommend it? Any packs for it you suggest buying or getting free? Thanks.
Thank you! I can definitely recommend the Kemper. It's expensive, but if you want to have those real tones of especially classic or rare amps, the Kemper is the way to go. I believe emulating the Diezel or a Marshall Plexi with an AxeFX or a plugin is a very hard task. If you want to achieve a more modern sound the AxeFX might be a better choice, but if you like to play older amps and want to profile your amps, the Kemper is the better choice. In case you chose to buy a Kemper, Michael Britt made great profiles of modern amps as well (e.g. Mesa Boogie Rectifier or a 5150). The Kemper profiles in gain stages, so all profiles are set to a specific gain. You can theoretically adjust the gain, but adding gain on the Kemper is not a good idea. The Kemper is working with impulses I believe. The AxeFX makes its gain itself. That's basically the difference. The footswitch (Kemper Remote) is definitely a must if you chose to make covers or play live :)
@@MaxNiessl Thanks for your response!
What effects are you using. Sounds perfect.
Thank you! I'm using a bit of a treble booster on the Diezel to get the highs and mids squeaking. For the 👽 part, I'm using an octaver set to one octave above and layered a static wah-wah before that to give it some randomness. After second examination, I don't think it's ring modulation, just an octaver. I could be wrong, though, but I just like how it blends with the song :)
Hey can you do Jimmy?
Awesome sounds spot on. Was about to learn this part within the next week or two too. Do you have any effects on for the section starting at 0:41, bar 425-432?
Thank you! Only for the 👽 part. The rest of the solo is just plainly the amp. I used a bit of a treble booster to get the squeaks going, but no fancy effect or anything :)
@@MaxNiessl for the part in bar 432, how do you get that sound? Wah with ring modulation? I'd like to replicate that sound and am very interested in this. May you help me? :))
@@FantasyForestMusic I re-uploaded the solo part in a separate video. For the “ring modulation”, I actually used a simple octaver with a bit of wah. So it really isn’t as complicated. Adam probably used a lot of pedals for this, but the octaver sounded close enough for me :)
@@MaxNiessl thanks so much :) Could you recommend any settings for general octavers?
New sub here! I have an Epi LP too. How do you achieve the Adam Jones tone? I’d love to know. Can you do a video on it?
Thank you, Ashlie! Epiphone gang unite 🤘 Most of the work is done by the Kemper amp. I'm running a Diezel profile that I've modified to my needs :)
Max Niessl thanks mate! Looking forward to learning some Tool! 🤘
Do you listen to Igorrr? A cover from the new album would be amazing :D
I definitely give them a listen :)
How do u do artificial harmonics?
I actually do them pretty weird. I'm not touching the string with my thumb, but with my ring finger. Touching and picking happens at the same time :)
Can you revisit Pneuma? Watch Adam's instagram for how he plays one of the last riffs. axeofcreation made lesson on it too. I think would be nice to add it in your Pneuma video.
I updated the tabs to that post, as mentioned. That part is not very difficult to learn, though, so I don't really see a point in making another video for that. Also, Greg already made a full revisitation of the song which is very accurate :)
@@MaxNiessl Oh so you did? Sorry for that man. My mistake that i didnt check the tabs on your website. Usually i play along with your videos and rarely dig the tabs. Now i checked and everything is perfect! Thank you sooo much for swiming in the Tool ocean!! Waiting for more Mastodon & Kyuss videos in the future. ;) Also if you're fan of Kyuss you should check Unida. They have badass songs and are unexplored on CZcams.
Hey Max, did you accidentally include your older version of the PDF tab of 7empest on your website?
Hey! Nope that’s the newest version. The main riff starting on the 9th fret is from an Instagram post by Adam. He might play it like in my video in the beginning tho and just on the 9th fret after the solo
Hmm octaver now? I still think hes just playing with some pickscrapes and mb feedback. He doesnt seem to use stuff like octaver or ring modulation. Cool pinched harmonics tho. Are you planning ln buying another guitar? If so what would it be?
Yep, very hard to figure that part out. He's playing something very different live. Definitely _not_ using those effects live. The notes are so clear in the studio version, though, so I'm pretty sure it has to be something like this. If I would buy a new guitar sometime, it would definitely be another Les Paul. Hopefully something custom shoppy. But only time and money will tell 😂
@@MaxNiessl I love the look of Les Pauls but to me they are so uncomfortable :( compared to my guitar the neck is moved deeper into the body or sth, it just feels like everything is moved right compared to my guitar. So if i wanted a new guitar probably it wud have to be sum luthier guitar or i could think of ltd sparrowhawk in black or gold.
First 🤣
Max, you continue to impress me. And I'm not.easily impressed. I actually think that you are not playing this EXACTLY like Adam. You're adding in your own special sauce...
Max... you're money, and you don't even know it. He's so fuckin money... and he doesn't even know it!
Haha thank you very much! ☺️
