This ep is probably my favorite. I love it when Charlie, the dumbest character on the show, goes full Bond villain with his elaborate machinations. Also that punchline at the end with the waitressâs breakdown along with Charlieâs reaction **chefâs kiss**
I dunno about "dumb" for Charlie. He's not conventionally "capable", sure, but that just makes what he does manage to achieve all the more impressive. Sisyphean, even, if only in the sense that he has to put in way more work than others to do the same stuff.
This episode was a stroke of comedic genius. It remains one of the favorite episodes in tv history for ANY tv show.

Thats a huge part of the Gang. They form alliances with and are nice to people that can help them in that moment, then its back to everyone for themselves, until the next scheme/ adventure
This show is amazing at having very individual episodes that still add up and link to each other somehow
The early season where we thought the Waitress was normal compared to the gang
Kind of like Dee, who was the voice of reason at first.

@@bog7227 Yeah, but the first few episodes, and to an extent the whole first season with the exception of episode 3, she was the sane one. Kaitlin got mad that she couldn't do anything fun and threatened to quit the show if they didn't improve her role.

I think she was normal, so to speak. The Gang's just such a moral black-hole that they warp everyone around them.
I think this is the first of the more rare but always awesome Charlie and Sweet Dee team ups. It's always a heap of crazyness.
Pretty sure this is my favourite episode. So many interwoven parts, Charlie screaming on the phone is perfect

Real life daughter :) :) I LOVE your reactions to Sunny, can't wait for you to see the rest of it! Btw, you have the best smile I saw in recent memory! Greetings from Croatia! Stay happy, cause when you are, you smile! One more thing, after season 5, there's an extra Christmas special called A Very Sunny Christmas, it was released on DVD in 2009, after season 5, but on FX was aired a year later, after season 6, so you decide when you'll watch it, I recommend sooner rather than later, it's hilarious!

Devito wasn't sought out for this role.
He was a fan of the first season and contacted the gang to see if they could find a role for him. Doubt at the time he expected it would end up being 14 seasons (15 counting the one he wasn't in) and would set records for longest running live-action comedy series in American television history ... but, i think us fans are all so grateful for!

With the added reminder to not read ANYTHING about it before watching. So many links on the net spoil the film straight away, it's criminal. If you need a little bit about it before watching, ask me and I'll give a spoiler-free couple of sentences on it. Also, Halloween's still 5 weeks away, but I strongly suggest you react to what many film critics consider to be the best comedy of all time, Mel Brooks 1974 Frankenstein parody, "Young Frankenstein". I would plan that one to be uploaded, if not on All Hallow's Eve (aka Halloween, aka Oct. 31st), then the night (or two) before it.

Actually not entirely sure why they wrote it that way. Just to have Charlie encourage him, and be that much more immoral and devious? Maybe they wanted a post-sex scene with Mac and Barbara after his discussion with Charlie, and didn't want her to sleep with Mac twice, so there's no hint she had any attraction/attachment?

13:51 The show does want you to feel bad for Charlie, and you do, but, on the other hand, he is trying to force the Waitress to have sex with him, very much against her will. It's amazing how smoothly they transition you into the Gang's moral universe, or lack of one.
I get the impulse, but Charlie should never get with the Waitress, at least not without first putting in the effort to learn her name. I can't even picture how such a relationship would work, unless she was, like, his carer or something (and even then, of course, it would have to be platonic). I think it's part of the satire of sitcom tropes; there's always that "will they/won't they" potential coupling that the fans ship, but here they have us rooting for something objectively dreadful. Amazing what the right narrative can do; reminds of Verhoeven's "Starship Troopers".
Good observation on the shifting alliances. Shows often have different characters pair-up to explore different dynamics, but with the Gang, it's also always oppositional. If you're not with them, you're against them, or at least just an object to be used as they see fit. Very 45 "transactional relationship" stuff.
