Halloween is terrifyingly chilling and in my opinion the psychological torment is more frightening than the gore and the guts you'd expect in a horror film. The score sends shivers down your spine and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Michael Myers' is a mystery, you don't know why or what his motives are, which is what I think makes his character so horrifying! I enjoyed this more than I anticipated and I'm excited to check out the rest of the franchise!

To me, this is a slasher film in it's most perfect form. Tons of suspense, incredible score, beautiful, yet haunting shots that will make anyone uneasy and barely any gore. John Carpenter is a genius.

I agree. It’s rare for me to watch horror movies because most concentrate more on gore than actual scares. While Halloween does have some blood, it’s not over the top. Instead, it draws on the idea of stalking and paranoia, drawing the audience into a state of uneasiness.

John Carpenter stated that there was no reason for why Micheal was doing was he was doing. He wanted the audience to have the feeling that this could be anybody you know and easily happen to you. Which is what makes it so creepy.

The sequels up the body count and gore factor compared to the first but they ignore the fact that what made the original movie such a classic was the pervading sense of dread built up in the first hour. That's why the original is the best.

Thank you. Watching Halloween Kills; I had this terrible feeling that I couldn't shake. This is not Michael Myers. It's not even Halloween. They substitute buckets of blood and gore for substance. 2018 was good in my opinion. It felt like Michael Myersb and it had that sense of a stalker/hunter; studying it's prey as you see in the tracking sequence; he stops and stares into the window; he was in Julian's backyard/closet and again in the Elrods backyard. It had a familiar taste in 2018. Kills is just q bunch of overindulgent trash. It's so pretentious; it's sickening. James Jude Courtney SUCKS. He is trying so hard and it translates TERRIBLY. When he's driving every knife in the house through the fat guys back; you can see Michael Myers stopping to think about what he's doing. There's moments of hesitation; moments of doubt. That's not Michael Myers. Michael Myers is a hunter; with no motivation but to kill and hunt his prey. This new " Myers " was all about staring out of his sisters window. Um..GAY! Hawkins destroys the legend of the greatest stalker ever with lines like " He [ Myers ] is somebody's baby boy. " Later he says: " What if Michael isn't staring out of his sisters window. Maybe he's staring at his own reflection; looking deep inside of himself. " So, not only do they completely change Michael; they emasculated him countless times. He walks away from an officer shooting at him to kill; only to walk out it front door and into police custody. Since when is Michael Myers a betat soy boy!? What is he hungry or somethjnf? Perhaps he's exhausted and wants to recharge. So, he gets arrested in order to get three hots and a cot. I can't rationalize this garbage. Let me stop, before I write a novel.
What the hell are they doing to my favorite legend of horror !? All of the mystique and the lore; that the true Halloween created; organically has been shit on and destroyed in one 100 minute shitshow. They didn't even leave any room this dogshit film for the viewers imagination.
Gordon Green and McBride need to stay away from The Exorcist. They're about to ruin another classic because they havent the talent to create their own.

Carpenter never wanted to do a sequel and when the Producers forced his hand he said he had to get drunk to write the screenplay for Halloween 2. The only thing John Carpenter likes about the sequels is the checks he gets for them lol.

You can also watch the countless interviews he's given to on them. I mean dude ask yourself something if Carpenter loved the sequels why hasn't he ever directed one?
I like Halloween 2, 3, 4, 5, and H20. I like the Rob Zombie Halloween films for what they are, and like the new films but that doesn't change Carpenter's opinions on them. My original comment was simply because she thought the ending was setting up sequels which it wasn't and not if I think they're bad.

    Trivia:
    - There is no "Haddonfield Illinois, the town was based on Debra Hill Capenter's hometown of Haddonfield, New Jersey"
    - The Mask: In 1975 William Shatner did a movie the "Devil's Rain" in it they did a special effect with his face, so they made a life cast of his face and used it for props. When the film wrapped up, they used he cast as a negative for "Captain Kirk" star trek masks. In 1977, Halloweens Producer tommy lee wallace on the budget of just 325,000 dollars; wanted a mask on the cheap so he went to a hollywood Costume shop and bought three masks, one a childs clown mask (in he beginning of the movie) a Sad clown Emmett Kelly mask (abandoned) and a kirk mask prop master, cut the sideburns/eyebrows off, fwipped the hair, cut out the eyes and spray painted it Krylon "Applianace White"
    - was filmed in 20 days
    - All the dark scenes in the movie are real, unlike most hollywood movies which are backlit, Halloween was filmed at night, without accessory Lights (They couldn't afford it)
    - There was no costume budget: All of the actors wore their own clothes, since there was no money for costumes

Oh, it saddens me that Aussies don't really embrace Halloween, because it's such a fun holiday. It makes sense though, because the climate is warming up in the southern hemisphere. But since we're getting the chill of autumn, Halloween costuming is an opportunity for girls to show off "the goods" one last time in a sexy costume before putting it all away for the winter lol.
But seriously, more than that, it's away to embrace the falling of leaves, leaving skeletal tree bones and associating the chill in the air with the chill of death. Because, at it's core, Halloween is a holiday that embraces death. And it's fun to feel a bit spooked and uneasy. And haunted houses are a lot of fun...like an emotional roller coaster of fear...where you get to be scared in the middle of a horror movie without actually fearing for your safety.
But most importantly, it's an opportunity to dress up as your favorite fictional character and be creative with costumes...scary or not...as a way to announce what you're into. You could go traditional and dress as Michael Myers or a vampire if you want to go scary, or as a harmless character like Dorothy Gale or Rainbow Bright. And it's fun to go around and complement people on their creative costumes.
Tonight, I saw a woman dressed in a trench coat, and when she opened it, she had a body suit with chest and pubic hair with a huge floppy penis and testicles...I laughed my ass off.
And we decorate our yards with tombstones, and bodies hanging from the trees. And dads carve jack-o-lanterns with the kids, which is a great opportunity to teach knife safety. And trick-or-treating, where kids get candy from the neighbors...which the old people love, beca6they get to see all the little kiddies all dressed up.
    I LOVE Halloween.

Nancy from Nightmare on Elm St. is pretty smart, but Loomis is hardcore never falling for Michael’s BS, tries everything he can to convince others of how dangerous he is, continually spotlights Michael as THE supernatural force of evil. And he never, ever downplays that danger. Go Doc Loomis!

NO SPOILERS.....but, this franchise is one that really doesn't stick to a singular continuity. So you can't really follow along with every movie with a consistent idea. John Carpenter originally wanted "Halloween" to be sort of an anthology series where each movie would be its own thing, and not continue on with the "Michael Myers" storyline. The popularity of this movie gave the producers leverage to kind of force Carpenter's hand in greenlighting a second Michael Myers movie in Halloween II. Carpenter only agreed to do a Myers' sequel if it would allow him to produce a different story for Halloween III. The producers agreed, so Halloween III has nothing to do with Michael Myers storyline.
There are many more Halloween films after Halloween III, including a Rob Zombie remake, and others they all take liberties from the the first two and go in different directions from the first two films. Sort of like different timelines in different universes. Not all fans agree which timeline is best, so this is a personal preference thing.
In fact, the latest version Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills 2021, attempts to reboot the series ignoring all of the films that came after the original. I was originally onboard with the idea, as the visuals in the trailer for Halloween 2018 were very convincing.
Despite the great visuals of the reboot (IMO), the story is subpar at best, and I still prefer the first two movies of this series Halloween & Halloween II over everything that has been created afterwards. Halloween II literally continues immediately after this one left off.

You saved me from saying just about everything you said there. Halloween and Halloween II are 'the night he came home', there was only one night. As much as they have tried to have another night, or to reimagine the first night, nothing will ever hit us like Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981). Halloween Kills is the second Halloween film, after Zombie's Halloween II, that I have decided to not watch. Sequels and reboots are over for me. I have sequel fatigue.

You also learn more about Michael's motivations for wanting to kill Laurie. Don't even bother with IV-VI (III is not a Michael Myers movie. I recommend reacting to Halloween 2 and Halloween 3 then the current trilogy: Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends.
The twist in Halloween 2 wasn't the idea when John Carpenter made Halloween. Halloween was supposed to become a anthology series after H2 and that's why H3 is so different.
Also, Halloween Kills has a extended cut that has more brutal kills, extra scenes, and a extended ending that was removed because they changed the story for Halloween Ends during the pandemic.
Also Dr. Loomis is named after a character in Pyscho.

The only other thing that is getting better than it is the details that the Shape's mask has. His mask wasn't really that good in the first movie, but it was their first film.

Non spoiler if you want answers from a movie franchise. This is the wrong movie franchise because this movie franchise has no solid continuity. What you get instead is multiple timelines with events that differ in each timeline. For example events of Halloween 4, 5 and 6 get removed and have nothing to do with Halloween H2O. Even some events in Halloween 4 get changed in Halloween 5. Then Halloween 2018 removes all of the sequels completely then goes to this movie only. Obviously Rob Zombie reboots are a separate thing altogether. Then there is Halloween 3 Season of the Witch it has nothing to do with Michael Myers whatsoever. I have the Shout Factory collectors edition of Halloween 3 Season of the Witch. In the audio commentary with the writer and director. Tommy Lee Wallace he says he would have preferred it to be just called Season of the Witch. But the movie studio would not fund the movie with that name or title. With full knowledge that it had nothing to do with Michael Myers. In any way shape or form the movie studio basically said no. Halloween 3 in the name or title then no funding and no movie. So they had no choice but to call it Halloween 3 Season of the Witch. In order to get it funded an made they wanted it to be a separate thing altogether. But the movie studio made them make it apart of that movie franchise. That's why John Carpenter sold his shares and walked away. When the movie studio said they want to bring back Michael Myers in Halloween 4. Because John Carpenter was done with Michael Myers at the end of Halloween 2. It was supposed to be the end of Michael Myers once an for all. But then John Carpenter returned for Halloween 2018.

This was not setup for any sequel whatsoever. Carpenter didn't want to repeat himself. He was basically handcuffed into producing it.
Every single sequel INCLUDING the beloved 81 sequel is absolutely garbage. In fact Carpenter himself HATES Halloween ll. He hates the sibling idea he wrote, as well as the Samhain curse that was sorta implemented in 81 and ultimately brought out in following sequels.
I use to enjoy the 81 sequel but upon each time viewing it, I began to really despise it because it's so flawed and you can tell that there was no love put into it.
When you force people to do something they really don't want to do..... don't expect the product to be any good! And that's EXACTLY what we have with every single sequel ESPECIALLY the 81 sequel for opening unwanted doors to be opened and explored.
If you wanna watch any sequel to this masterpiece then watch these sequels that have recently come out with another to be released in 2022 for a more grounded/realistic vision.
I have these new movies already figured out but I'm not going to give away the surprise that awaits everyone in the last of these movies that are making up the trilogy.
I do indeed know what's happening and know where they're going
Avoid all sequels unless you want to watch the new ones
