My Corgi Sabo will TELL me when I stop petting him by letting out a low growl/bark and then put his paw on my arm or hand. He will repeat about 5 times before he gets the picture. Hes is my 2nd Corgi and both pretty much had the same quirks that you are referring to, Especially the licking the bed one. Thanks for the video, Corgi

I have an 8 year old corgi and she has many of the same traits, she always licks my bed when she is next to me and even if i would push her head away or tell her to step she just keeps doing it😂, also the rolling in the ground is very typical, every single time she sees a place with sand on it, if i don't controll her she goes absolutely mad and starts rolling in it exactly like yours did in the video. So cute and cool but it's a pain in the ass cleaning the dog afterwards 😆.

Corgis were bred to herd cattle, that is why they like to follow small tracks, curbs or painted lines. Personal story; the girl I married was from a small ranch in Oklahoma. Our first rescue Corgi that we had was a little on the large size, but was still small compared with the Border Collies that they had on the ranch. We volunteered to bring the cattle in from a field across the road from the ranch house. We took Frodo, our Corgi, with us to get him some exercise. When the cattle started coming together to be herded across the road, Frodo took it upon himself to bunch the cattle all together. You have to realize that Frodo had never been trained to herd. One young bull took exception with the fact that this small "thing" was forcing them to bunch together, and decided to charge Frodo. Frodo expertly waited to the last second, jumped up and barked directly into the bulls ear!!! The bull quickly turned around and headed to where he was supposed to be going.

Love your videos! Growing up in Ireland always had a pembroke corgi in the house....six in total. One of the corgis,a female, was overly protective of anything to do with our Mum. If we went to touch any of her stuff, such as a handbag or even a sweeping brush, she would growl loudly at us! Our first corgi,a male, loved apples! We had an orchard out the back. One day,my Mom noticed the corgi making several trips upstairs. On checking, the corgi had amassed a large pile of apples under one of the beds! Obviously,he believed an apple a day keeps the vet away!

We've had three Corgis. They all do what you mentioned, except the furniture licking.
    - In addition, all our Corgis were obsessed with large balls (soccer sized up to 1 meter wide horse balls) that they liked to herd with their heads, faces and shoulders.
    - They are EXCELLENT soccer goalies - NOTHING gets past them a d they'll complete flips, head over heels, to try and prevent a ball from going over their heads!!
    - They all sploot to relax on the bare floor or porch to rest and/or nap.
    - Will often go into deep sleeps flat on their backs with legs sticking up in the air; this is VERY MUCH Corgi behavior.
    - Bunny hopping and front foot stamping enthiastically bout anything new or exciting.
    - Grabbing or getting under sheets, blankets, rugs, or large pillows and then rolling themselves up into wraps or burritos (Corgittos) with their heads covered to sleep.
    - Not letting ANYONE else get to play with a ball they're playing with.
    - Herding small children and chickens into corners. If not trained to resist, they'll nip heels to encourage this!
    - Corgi glitter (loose hair) and keeping them from jumping off steps, porches or furniture were the only "concern" we ever had. We got pet steps so they could get up and down off the couch with us. Back injuries can be serious and accumulative.

We have a Cardigan Corgi, so he has a tail. I notice he wags it at strange times, like when he is nervous or unsure. It kind of reminds me of how a squirrel bounces it’s tail around when it’s nervous. Another strange thing he does is not greeting us at the door when we get home. He will be laying in the hallway looking at us like we never left. He gets more excited about strangers visiting than he does his own family coming home!

    • @matthewpeterson3329
      @matthewpeterson3329 Před rokem

It's been scientifically proven that dogs wag their tails to the left if they are apprehensive, say unsure about a person approaching or a situation. They wag to the right out of joy. It may look like it's a full side to side wag, but if you watch, you will see it's pronounced to one side or the other. I'm not pulling your leg, it's actually been studied and documented as a way for dog owners and handlers to use the physical cues as a threat warning. The left side of the brain controls joy, resulting in a right side wag. The right brain associates with fear, resulting in a left side wag. Interesting, huh?

    1. Licks her bed and/or the couch - Check.
    2. Uses ALL THE Pillows - Check
    3. Likes to be in small spaces - Check
    4. Walks on the curb.... or creates her OWN personal path - Check
    5. Talks back / Adorable head tilts - Check and Check
    6. Excited Body Wiggles - Check
    7. Rolling around on carpets or in sand - Check
Additionally - She is OBSESSED with playing fetch and with balls. In my experience with other corgis and my own, this is pretty common due to their herding instincts. (Warning to potential corgi owners - corgis do also tend toward chasing cars - be sure to desensitize them to moving vehicles of all shapes/sizes and absolutely training them to not chase cars and to adhere strictly to recalls)

You can put yogurt, peanut buttter, etc, on the lick pad to make it interesting for the doggie. Yes on the "talking"! Every afternoon after work I listen to BJ talk about his day first. So Cute. BJ does a "dance" move since a puppy. He stands in front of us when he wants us to do something: go outside, find a toy, a treat...if you don't get up right away, he shifts his weight side to side until you do what he wants. BJ is our second Corgi. Our first, Buddy, lived to be 13. We were heartbroken and then my husband came home with this 7 week old ball of fur and we fell in love all over again. The "sploot" is my favorite thing!

In 35 years I’ve had 8 dogs, none have been purebreds. The closest was a Malinois mix , but I always had at least 2 dogs at a time. Most of the things you speak of are not “corgi “ specific, all my dogs have done a variety of them. Two of them were known shep mixes and had the distinct ears , bark & howl and would “ talk back” when I spoke to them. The laying half under the bed, two of my first dogs back in the 90’s did that, it was like they were having a secret meeting under the bed. The little dog I have now is a spot licker .
