It seems like they may have launched the game with the some of the simpler characters to have a good introduction for newer players to make them feel more comfortable and will be adding the more complex characters as they go. It's pretty clever honestly.
Yeah, I think that's a good theory. Arc has been doing this a long time. They definitely wanted new players to have simple characters to get their feet wet with, but I hope as the game progresses they continue to add more options for existing characters and keep new characters as unique and fun as Jack-O

Good guide once again. I want to play her and get good at her... but I said the same thing about Zato and then dropped him after realizing how hard he is to play.
Regardless, it's good to have more complex characters being added to Strive.
That’s definitely going to happen lol She’s a lot of work and her reward doesn’t seem to great except for really specific scenarios but time will tell
I think some people will stick with her because she feels like she has actual expression in Strive with her combos. I like her so much if i get stomped. Zato to me doesn't feel as rewarding
I've lived the good life with Sol long enough. It's time to find myself a brain and learn Wife.
I was thinking about picking her up as a secondary but I'm going to wait for others to find more meterless combos that work outside of training.
cS > 2H > 236P > 5P > 214K > 236K > 214K is an awesome punish combo but pretty specific to landing meaty cS.
@@demacry there’s still merit to learning how to play her right now. Even if you lose most of your matches because you have no idea how to combo with her yet, you’ll still be figuring out how to play neutral, and that’s mad important.
What sucks for me right now is that I’m on Celestial/10 so pretty much everybody I play with is going to be proficient AF with their mains. My Jack-o is probably floor 7 or 8 tops right now. If that doesn’t bother you, then just play her anyway. When combos are found, you’ll already be good at playing neutral with her. Also helps you verify how legit a combo is based on its starter if you know what hits you’re actually landing frequently in neutral.

Brilliant guide. I didn’t expect to dig Jack O as much as I do. She’s so fun to play, she vexes people, causes chaos, sets the pace, and most importantly: HIGH slapstick value.

very important: you can actually cancel the taunt with a taunt or prc she still takes her mask off, so if you're lucky you can wall splat > taunt > prc > wall break.
Nice, you can also take off mask as soon as you win a round.

Coming from smash bros, she reminds me of Peach / Rosalina . Turnip pressure and sentient Lumas are what I see when I see minions on the field.
I currently main Millia , but seeing this Jack-O guide makes me want to reconsider tbh. She’s tons of fun for me. Setting up feels rewarding .

Being able to take off the mask definitely makes her playable in my book. xD Still would have preferred if we could just have an option to play her without the mask by default.

At the moment she kinda feels like a Zato with a worse Eddie, but better by herself.
That’s a decent assessment actually. She’s doing a lot, but feels a bit underwhelming without resources or specific scenarios that don’t always occur

I think the exact opposite. Weaker Zato with maybe perhaps a weaker Eddie. Zato by himself still has drunkard shade to beat projectiles, and his solo drill to grant him plus frames by himself. Eddie vs minions is hard to argue about though considering Jack-o is still so new
@@donut2111 Personally I think Jack-O is a better solo character than Zato, but I think Eddie is a better puppet than the minions. Zato's drill doesn't grant him plus frames unless done meaty and even then the amount of plus frames you get is abysmal. His normal pokes and anti airs have atrocious hurtboxes, causing your anti airs and pokes to get stuffed in situations where other characters would be successful.
Drunkard Shade is cool, but it's a pretty niche special, it's nice, but most characters can just air dash over their own reflected projectile or neutral jump it and go back to zoning again and he lacks a traditional airdash. Jack-O has an amazing AA with 2S, her fastest normal is 5f while Zato's is 6f, she has a reversal super which Zato doesn't. She has a traditional air dash while Zato doesn't and she has j.H for cross ups and air to airs like Millia's j.H. Her 2D slide can go under f.S pokes and projectiles as well.
Meanwhile Eddie is vastly superior to the minions considering Eddie can be controlled freely and has much more oppressive, damaging, and impactful moves than the minions do. The minions aren't super useful in neutral. Eddie leap and oppose alone is very strong in neutral, The minions attacks and shields lack range and require Jack-O to stop moving to command them to do them and she gets pretty much nothing off of it if she's far away while Zato can run up from full screen and confirm off a leap and if Zato 2H's you for mashing on oppose he can do 70% of your life bar into sun void oki and potential 2 touch you.

I’m sure he mentioned it already but just in case he didn’t, I didn’t finish the video yet. But if you do a combo string you can cancel into a minion summon. So that way instead of doing a long string you can cancel the minion summon right in front of their face and then continue attacking. I have done a lot of pressure using this tactic. If you hold the minion in your hand all you have to do is push one button and you will summon whatever it is that you choose. For instance if you hit 4 you will summon the time bomb. Instead of having to do the quarter circle forward four. Using her shields will not stop any kind of signature special moves but it’s great for projectiles. It is also a gray counter versus Eddie when facing zato.

She’s so stressful to play sometimes though I swear. I’m sure once I get used to her set ups and combos I’ll be fine, but it’s like playing Millia, Zato, and Venom all at the same damn time >.>
Gotta use your brain for the mix then hit confirm it with your Eddiepoolball and then figure out what you can actually get off the set up because maybe you were three frames earlier than normal so you’re at a weird spot in your jump arc.
I’m trying to stick it out though lol.

What exactly does he mean by plus or minus? Like time between your input and your opponents?
When an attack is blocked, plus means it is the attackers turn to keep attacking. Minus means when an attack is blocked it is the defenders turn to begin attacking.
Plus or minus refers to who’s turn it is to begin attacking after an attack has been blocked.

it really bugs me the minions go away when you block. But they stick around after block if you use either of the cheer up supers, so you can use that to your advantage.
btw if u run into the corner and just attack with a minion while holding it you cant drop it till the wall breaks

Has anyone tried what the player does on his tweet at 16:15 ? It seems to me that he didn't assign the cpu to mash 5p (or fastest button), because no matter how hard I try when I do cl5S (minion bounce) > 236236HS, the following 5K always gets countered, or I counter the cpu.
Anyone has figured this out ?
Idk if other ppl feel this but shield looks kinda useless to me. Sure it's nice to get some really mad + frames for an approach fullscreen but she has safejumps and dp baits out of 2D and throw and during pressure is kinda like giving a free fuzzy jump run grab attempt to other ppl when you could be going for frametraps/mixup
this is a character I believe I can't play ever. minions make me confused and freeze in the fight and commanding them requires a lot of precise quarter circles which I suck at. I hope next DLC character will fit me more.
You can throw minion with any forward+button i.e. 6K, 6S, etc. So it may be easier to link some combos by immediately piano or plinking or slide [whatever you use] into a button to set up pressure. Not entirely sure but it wouldn't just rely on 6P to throw.

Pretty smart making the base charecters easy and making the dlc more complicated, since most new players wouldn't drop money on dlc if they couldnt even play the base game

Same, been a faust main and jacko seems to be the next step up in annoying the opponent as much as possible, no longer laust straight to A or S tier

I don't get how I'm missing c.S 2H minion summon 5P 236K. Either my summon doesn't want to come out, the 5P doesn't come out, or I miss the cancel into 236K. Any help?
You have to do each step as fast as possible. After c.S > 2H cancel into 236P you have to press 5P as soon as possible, it’s a very tight link. Then you simply cancel 5P into 236K then you can cancel 236K into any minion command you want

Idk There was a little bit of discourse where a lot of people were discussing if Strive was starting to reach its peak & getting stale, but Jack-O & the changes was a breath of fresh air.
The real problem is how bad her theme song is.
