Même si je connais les spécificités globales des avions, j'ai pour habitude de me battre au feeling peu importe ce que je rencontre en face.
    Je devrais essayer de pousser un peu mon analyse histoire de m'éviter certaines morts idiotes, mais aussi essayer de jouer avec le contrôle sur le radiateur et le prop pitch parce que les avions italiens ont une fâcheuse tendance à chauffer rapidement...

    I'm having troubles fighting P-51Ds and P-47Ds in it (funnily enough I have no troubles with other P-51 or P-47 models) when they have about the same energy as I do or have more energy than me, any tips?
    Other than that, it's really a joy to fly, when doing consecutive vertical loops it actually feels like you gain energy. I killed many opponents just patiently looping until I was behind them.
    Would you consider making a video on the J2M3 in the near future? I was planning on spading it later this month or during June but I have absolutely no clue about how to fly it. I've flown the J2M2 when it was released but that's quite some time ago now.
    Discovered your channel about 2 weeks ago and you make good content (you're the best RB pilot I've seen in War Thunder so far), considering to Subscribe to you.

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 6 lety +3

      If they have the same energy as you, you can outturn and outclimb them. G56 holds all the cards in that situation. Use flaps too if under 450km/h. If they are above head towards teammates while trying to make him overshoot. Against P47s, dive to the deck. Against P51s you're better off staying higher.
      I've added J2M3 to my list! I heard it was nerfed somehow, we'll see.

    • @little_bit_mad
      @little_bit_mad Před 6 lety

      Unfortunately I wasn't able to test out your tips, the only P-51Ds I ran into had significantly less energy than me and I haven't fought a P-47. Now I spaded it and probably won't ever touch it again. Thanks for your tips, I already improved my flying with your videos by a fair bit.
      In case you're interested in talking a bit about planes in War Thunder and you use Discord, I'm sure we can arrange something. I think that would be better than filling your comment sections with endless messages that aren't even relevant to the video.

      109s have great T/W, and P51D as well because of some bug, we'll see if that changes. In arcade though everything accelerates quickly so it's not that important.

    • @flybynature2629
      @flybynature2629 Před 6 lety

      Hey, thanx for the info on localhost. I'll check that up for sure. Regarding AB... I like it because there is more action to fullfill my needs. IMHO most of RB players suck in both modes and they play RB because they die instantly in AB. Or they play bombers.
      I think RB is much easier to play as you only use elevators, it doesn't matter what weapons you carry to shoot down anything in small bursts and there si no respawning so you are safe from revenge kills. In AB you need skills on using rudder and your situational aweranes must be on much higher level. Both modes are 2 different worlds and it just doesn't make sense to try to compare them. This is how I see it and I really hate morons that try to look down at AB.
      Regarding the T/W in AB... you are just wrong. It does matter big time. High end AB pilots make their kills in energy fighting... to the point where I don't carry pods on 109G2 so I can get that extra 100m lift when I draw energy from the opponent. In AB best energy planes are 109s ofcourse, besides them J2Ms, Yak3VK, Yak3, Spitfire LF, Bearcat, La9, G56...when these planes are flown right they are untouchable. I'm really dissapointed in your answer on this one... live and let live, eh?

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 6 lety +1

      Wow never heard the claim that people play RB because they suck in AB, interesting! For me it's quite the contrary, AB is too easy even though I've played very little and I get around 10-15 kills a game.
      Situational awareness in RB is more important. You don't only use the elevator at all in RB, you were playing it wrong.
      To paraphrase a quote from a movie: "if everyone accelerates well, no one does."

    • @flybynature2629
      @flybynature2629 Před 6 lety

      What claim? Just check the stats of players, lol... 10 - 15 kills you get over enemies spawn when flying in squad with 3 other morons... if you fly solo over enemy spawn you need skill... and energy fighter... I'd like to see you score 15 kills in P51D30 in AB... lol...
      Maybe you should check some streams from Legend and Flip... that's skill... live stream... no squad...
      Situational awareness in RB? Where everything is in slow motion? Try dogfight 2 at the same time watching at the third guy coming from the spawn pissed at you as he was the third guy you fought at the same time a minute ago...
      I hate planes that can only B&Z... take a corsair and make 15 kills... I dare you... or any FW190 for that matter... it's AB after all... where they all accelerate well...

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 6 lety

      The claim you made in your comment. Can you link stats that support your point? No I don't squad in AB. In AB firepower matters a lot more, so no I won't be able to do 15 kills in the P51D30 in a short time frame. Cannon corsair or Fw shouldn't be difficult.
      Why is everything in slow motion in RB? Not sure I understand. As you said though, enemies in AB will be coming from their spawn invariably, easy to keep track of them.

    What is it about clipping a spitfire's wings that reduces its turn rate / energy retention in a turn?
    I've often heard it said that the elliptical winged spitfires owed their maneuverability to their wings but I never heard if or why that was really the case.

    • @brendannolan2508
      @brendannolan2508 Před 6 lety +1

      Another great video by the way

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 6 lety +7

      That's a good question! So I'll explain without going into the equations and the details (unless you want them).
      Let's start with maneuverability. Maneuverability is a function of many characteristics, such as wing loading (mass/wing surface). If we take the same aircraft and simply cut the wing tips off, the wing loading increases which decreases maneuverability or turn time, and that's why a clipped wing Spitfire will invariably turn worse than the same Spitfire but with the original wing. Wing loading is the most important factor in maneuverability.
      About Energy Retention (ER) in a turn: a key thing to remember is that when you are pulling 6Gs for example, it means that your wing is producing 6x the weight of the aircraft as lift. Since nothing is 100% efficient, a drawback to the creation of lift is the creation of drag, called induced drag. Induced drag is a function of many things, such as the wing geometry (simplification) and aspect ratio. Wing geometry is the shape of the wing (rectangular, trapezoidal, elliptical, etc), and aspect ratio is the length of the wingspan squared divided by the wing surface. An elliptical wing is the most efficient wing geometry, so anything that isn't elliptical is less efficient. Clipping the wing tips off means that the wing is no longer elliptical, increasing drag and decreasing maneuvering ER. Clipping the wing tips also means that the overall wingspan is shorter, hence reducing aspect ratio, increasing drag and decreasing maneuvering ER.
      What you've often heard is that the elliptical wing gives the Spitfire its maneuverability, but in actuality it gave the Spitfire its maneuvering ER. Please forgive the layman narrator in the documentary ;).
      Props in game have an aspect ratio of around 5, while gliders have an aspect ratio of 12+. Engineers need to evaluate the weight cost of increasing the wing span against the decrease in drag.
      Let me know if something wasn't clear.

    • @brendannolan2508
      @brendannolan2508 Před 6 lety +1

      Once again, I've learned so much from you. Thank you. (Btw, if you could point me to the equations and details, that would be great :) )
      Also, I now know why I always regretted trying to turn fight P-47s in an Fw 190. The huge wings of the P-47 mean that, although it will is a bit of a bathtub, it can easily out turn a 190.
      What are the reasons not to have an elliptical wing?

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 6 lety +2

      My pleasure!
      Equation for induced drag: CDi = CL^2 / (pi*(wing geometry coefficient)*(Aspect Ratio)
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lift-induced_drag
      Yeah the P47 has a lower wing loading than the Fw, that's why it outturns it. The P47 has huge wings because it was meant to be a high altitude fighter.
      What is important is not the actual geometry of the wing, it's the lift distribution on the wing. An untwisted elliptical wing produces an elliptical lift distribution, but by twisting a rectangular wing and tapering it, you can mimic the elliptical lift distribution and increase efficiency. So the reasons for not having an elliptical wing are that it takes longer to manufacture, and there are ways to have a simpler geometry with nearly the same efficiency as the elliptical wing.

      @brendannolan2508 Před 6 lety +1

      yes i mostly fly 109's and if u do upward spirals or circle upward ( with minimum 300-350kmh IAS) u ezily energy fight mustangs thunderbolts and many more planes. i prefer flying in 90° angle to my opponent to energy trap him with high speed level flight and than climb with slightly turning ^^
      And BTW u r the only war thunder player ive seen who is using the browsercard except me myself xD (climbrate m/s ; TAS ; IAS etc....) ^^
      Only 1 thing i do different, i do not only climb straight for energy trap, i go 90° sideways to my opponent, try yourself it works better than only going straight line and zoom climb ;)

    • @AdamTheEnginerd
      @AdamTheEnginerd  Před 6 lety +1

      I vary the angle according to relative energies. If you're a lot faster, going 90° (the safe way) may make the enemy wary of following you and he'll just break off. Gotta give hope ;).

    • @r0ns0n0l
      @r0ns0n0l Před 6 lety

      yes but i go to same altitude level and my opponent mostly( i would guess 95% of the fights) underestimates my level of speed (cuz i am on same alt and he closers up to me from my side xD )
      cuz it gives them the feeling to be able to catch me from the side and go behind me to get some bursts @ me ^^
      but if i zoom up straight ahead they brake up way more often and realize the energy trap. (thats just what i experienced in 5 years of air rb )
      i even energy trap mig9 lates in p80's like that as u can see here: czcams.com/video/Jv9M2qqQqq8/video.html
