    2020 JL Jeep® just did it and it was successful! I actually like the A! code on the speedo readout...reminds me that nothing forced on buyers is forever...
    One more trick I did - untethered the aux battery from the main battery and removed fuse 42. Why? The aux battery that helps with ESS is prone to fail after 3 years and it will gladly take your main battery down with it leaving you stranded. Oh, and that aux battery is a pain to replace and expensive as well. So pull the neg [-] cable from the aux battery off the main battery terminal and tape it back [you can leave the aux battery in place] and remove the fuse to stop the computer from looking for it. One and Done.

    Have to say that I have a 2018 JL that I just gave the dealer $361 to install a new Battery etc. After that I realized that this would be a reoccurring problem once the "Useless smaller battery" killed everything again. So this morning I went out and followed your suggestion. Thanks bunches and If I keep the JL I may just redesign the whole systems again. They said it was against company rules for them to do anything. p.s. Have a bunch of jeepers from NY to Cal that I call friends so this is going on my personal page with my bear pictures.

    In the manual for my wife’s 2015 Cherokee, I am fairly certain it says the stop/start feature is for emissions; no mention of saving fuel. The dealer agent said that it was for mileage.

    • @benanton2619
      @benanton2619  Před 5 lety

      I could see the emissions part, but the it definitely would not help your mileage 😂. Unless he was talking about getting better mileage, meaning mpg, meaning saving fuel. But I could see how shutting the engine off while stopped could be better for emissions, although it still may be minimal since the car is not off for very long

    • @Carl-vx9ws
      @Carl-vx9ws Před 5 lety +1

      Ben Anton so exactly what I meant was emissions is what the manual says the feature was intended for, regardless of how effective it may be in actual use. The dealer said it would help mileage as in MPG savings; again no statements to how effective it would actually be in use. Both reasons don’t explain why it couldn’t be turned off indefinitely unless there’s some mandatory requirement, like other pollution/emissions features.

If you don't have heated seats or steering wheel the left rear tire will keep deflating instead but you still get the opera station.

      So, I did this mod when we first took delivery of our previously owned Rubicon (moved the plunger but kept it plugged in) and it worked great - start/stop disabled and just the little yellow warning light on the dash. This week we went to the dealer for service and they tucked it back in place (whoops they caught me). So now I repeated what we did the first time - moved the plunger, kept it plugged in - and now the “hood up” light comes on. Tried it by unplugging the plunger from the cable altogether and still the “hood up” light comes on. So weird, so frustrating.

    People, there is so much easier of a way to disable start/stop.
    Just disable the seat belt chime. Doing so disables the start/stop.
    To do this1. Seat belt On
    2. Foot OFF the break, put vehicle in Run3. Wait for warning light to go out4. Quickly unlock >relock > unlock > relock seatbelt5. Turn off vehicle.
    People say you should hear chime if it worked, I heard nothing. First time I tried it, it didn't work.
    Seatbelt off, the chime still happened, as did start/stop.
    Second time, it did work. I hate seatbelts, and not wearing it, no chime reminder. Also, no annoying shutting off when I come to a stop.
    This was on a forum for a 2015 Wrangler, but worked on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee.

      You tell me. How long would it take to lock/unlock a seatbelt 4x? Maybe 5secs?
      I could disable seatbelt chime/ESS before you popped hood, and walked to lift hood.
      Plus, there is not parts to separate or store.
      The way I suggested is really only ideal for those like me who don't like seatbelts.

      I doubt it, but let me guess ' that's different'
      How many times in an accident do we hear, speed was a factor.
      Wearing seatbelts, or speeding, its life choices and a risk. But people take risk every day of their lives.

      Thanks for the post, but I'm not sure I get it that it was for on a post for a 2015 Wrangler? The JKs didn't have auto stop/start. However, if your advice works on the JL, that's good to know. I still drive a JK, but I disabled my seatbelt chime right away on it anyway, just because its annoying. You can still wear your belt (if you chose to) without a chime going off right away each time to remind you

    • @Wearyman
      @Wearyman Před 5 lety +1

      Because when you are off road in a Jeep (Something you wouldn't know about being a hybrid driver) you start and stop very frequently. Often while on steep hills and during off-camber rock climbs. Having your engine shut off then is dangerous and possibly lethal as it could lead of a loss of control and a rollover. Remember that these vehicles are advertised as hard core off road vehicles. So there is a reasonable expectation that the manufacturer won't add a system that puts your life and limb at risk for doing what the manufacturer says you can do. Personally I am waiting (not happily) for the first person to be seriously injured because the engine shut off from the Stop-Start system and causes an accident. The lawsuit will be a slam dunk for the injured party.

      @@Wearyman That's understandable.. but you can just turn it off with the provided button for that off-road session and you're good to go. Then it should be fine left on for the 80%+ you're driving it on road. Unless you off-road in it exclusively, I don't see much point in permanently disabling this. Plus if you put it in 4-low, it does actually keep the start/stop off.

    • @benanton2619
      @benanton2619  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes but it is also advertised as a feature to save gas on the roads, so far in my testing with it on and off there really is no difference in mpg because it’s a brick on wheels, stopping and starting the engine for a few seconds doesn’t do much to help save on gas
