Yes totally short on female guinea pigs. Everyone wants to adopt girls and that means that most recues allover the USA, UK and Europe struggle with a larger male population and very few people willing to take a couple males home. My friend Fenella from Wee Companions heeded my call and rushed to the rescue bringing us girls from a recent horrific rescue she did,

I literally just saved two female from a fish store. Yes a fish store. They had a small dirty cage with ants. Plus the water they were drinking from had mold, purely green. I messaged them for surrender, I would love to keep them but I already have two beautiful pigs of my own. Financial I wouldn’t be able to keep up with 4 babies. I know they will be going to a great place and so happy I was able to get them out of that place before anything horrible happened to them. ❤️
To clarify, for surrender at LAGPR? If so, did you fill out the surrender form online?
i don’t understand. it’s not hard to buy a bigger cage and just put CLEAN WATER IN, if you already have the bottle, there should be NO excuse or problem to not just put in some fresh water. don’t get pets if you’re lazy.
Thank you for doing this, im always horrifed to hear about animals being kept badly especially guinea pigs because people think its acceptable. These pet stores need to have their licences revoked.

@@samanthadabulis6136reading comprehension ... she got the store owner to surrender the pigs to her because the store (not her, the store) had them in a tiny cage with foul water. She was not able to keep them long term as she knows the limits of her ability to provide adequate care to 100% more pigs than she already has. Thats called being responsible ... not taking on more animals that you have the time, energy and finances to dedicate appropriately to.

I have had boys for 10 years and girls for only 2 years. And I honestly like the boys so much more! They are more friendly and more brave.
I love that I can have a big girl herd, but I love how the boys are always begging up on the bars and letting me pet them! Boy guinea pigs are sooo underrated
They are totally underrated!! You described boys perfectly! My first 2 girls I had both got pyometra. It was so horrific I told myself I would only adopt boys and I dont ever want to switch back!!!!

I have boys and girls. Girls are easier to take care of.... no smelly boar cleaning . So funny my bf cant handle it, i laugh everytime he gags and im there cleaning it lol

I don’t understand how people could have kept those piggies in those circumstances, guinea pigs are the sweetest and always have such different personalities when you get to know them and have a bond with them🤍it’s brilliant that you managed to rescue them 🥰keep up the amazing work Saskia! 💕
It's so true about the different personalities. I was out of town overnight and I was video chatting with my daughter. She showed me our guinea pigs. One of them didn't really care. The other one was trying to sniff me through the camera. When I got home, the sniffing one couldn't get close enough to me.

I tell them what I’ve learn from you and explain to them that you not only explain to people, but show them exactly what to do. Your videos make great educational tools for guinea pig owners everywhere.

Sadly some people are either bothered by boar cleaning which is no big deal at all, once you do it. An than some people want being able to have a larger herd. I think that is why so many boars are less likely to get adopted sadly. I LOVE my Boys and have NO regrets. Boy pigs make awesome pets and can be sooo sweet and have really can have Huge personalities!!! Boars are awesome❗❗🐹🐹💖💯
@@cringegoblin7391 That's good, that they do that.. For me to save money, I decided to just do it, to save on having to spend extra on things like that and nails trimming bathing. At first i was a put off by the idea that I had to do this with my boys, but I love them and so I was certainly not going to let something like this stop me, so I kept rewatching her vids on cleaning them, same with her nail trimming vids until I felt confident enough to do it on my own pigs and I was successful. After that it became easier, and makes me happy that I can do these things that I thought I couldn't do. I am so happy for that. Thank You 🐹🐹👍.
@@ITIsFunnyDamnIT definitely agree! boars are definitely better, for me at least. they are the cutest little things that always are up on the bars of the cage BEGGING for food! 😂 boy piggies are for sure the best way to go and they bring so much joy to my life. 💗 i also am fine with boar cleanings, it’s no big deal! especially if you have done it before you would know it’s not bad! stay safe during these hard times! 👍🏼

Honestly, both genders are great. I hate that people say one is better than the other. Boar cleaning deters some people but it's not that big of a deal. All pets have certain requirements.

lol, i adopted from the oakhurst guinea pig rescue and whoo boy, they have 13 male piggies still up for adoption! I adopted a neutered boar and 2 females if you're wondering.

My little sister has 3 Peruvian males brothers. They are the most adorable cuddly and talkative things I the world. And they are so chill with our other animals hanging around.

I have 2 boys, they are absolutely brilliant. No reason to adopt girls only. They groom each other, run about, sleep next to each other. Best friends forever. They do a funny little mating dance where they make a rumbly noise and shake their hips. Don't seem to ever fight apart from over carrots.
Fanella and you are so talented and angels for thinking of the piggies health first and foremost. I'm so glad that you are best friends. Thank you for showing all the beautiful piggie girls. I don't think that I ever saw a roan before. They are so exquisite.

I have built a forever home for guinea pigs I have a cottage in the backyard that is specifically for them it’s heat it has air condition and they live there forever
Urgh. Riverside is such a factory of nightmares. I did cat rescue for 6 years in SoCal and the absolute worst situation I’ve ever been involved in was in Riverside. This abandoned apartment full of feral cats. You could barely breathe for the smell and they were going bald from mange and malnutrition. I’m glad Wee Companions was able to get those poor pigs out! They’re good people. I adopted a pair of rats from them several years ago.

My boys and girls r in separate pens and over time developing their trust they have become less timid and just like cats don't mind a cuddle when THEY feel like it Sudden grabbing is out with my piggies slowly pick them up when they seem to be more receptive when I am cleaning their pen is out too because they don't like that but as soon as the fresh straw and food goes in they are happy.
Omg, I really envy you for your farm and to be able to have all these cute piggies and the other animals. I would just love to come and visit you, but... I live in Vienna / Austria 😜. I have had Guinea pigs several times. My first females were 8 years old, when they passed. I later had two boys, which I had to give away to a shelter, because me and my son developed such a bad allergy. So, I am looking at you videos for hours to make up for this loss. I adore Guinea pigs.

5:20 looks like my old guinea pig, he died around a year ago. They look the exact same and have the same desire for food. Love yoy videos by the way and all the piggies you rescue ❤
Here in The Netherlands some rescues seem to be short on females as well at the moment. It was already like this in fall, when I was looking for a female piggy to accompany a single neutered boar that's staying at mine for a while (managed to find a nice abby, quite the character). At least one rescue has a waiting list for people who would like to adopt a female piggy. I don't know if more people are adopting piggies because they have more time in the lockdowns or while working from home, or because fewer are taken in by rescues because of covid. Maybe it's a bit of both.
Shes said in prior videos that you see the sex imbalance in neglected pigs due to breeding. They are born at equal rates but a whole lot of people allow very young females to breed and allow back to back to back breeding with no care and poor nutrition. This leads to a much higher mortality rate with females. Throw in females (of pretty much every species) being more desirable due to stigma around males and their behavior/needs and voila, female shortage.

Hey hun. I have spoke to you before about driving my pig's down from NM. I was the one who helped out a hoarding situation from Santa Fe, NM. Anyway, I am finding it very hard to keep up with my 9 pigs that are all healthy. I am an I'll person esp. due to covid. I only want the best for them. I can donate a few hey bails, water bottles, cages, and as of right now like 7 carefresh beddings 60L I do plan to keep a few. It helps me with my anxiety. I just couldn't partner them right. So, that is how I ended up with 7. Then, 2 from, Santa Fe. I have 2 boys, and about 4 girls that need a home. This is for their well being. They are no older then 2yrs

I have 2 my uncle and tita (auntie) gave them to me..ive wanted one for a long time...luckyly my uncke and tita are guinea pig lovers...they have very big cages..my PIGGIES are..MALE AND FEMALE..for now they are in a not to little cage..but this saturday..or sunday and they will have a big cage..they are wonderfull pets..they do need allot of space..😊
All I heard was more than 2 boys can live together harmoniously & I agree. As long as they have the space to get away from each other when needed. My boy trio may fuss at each other on occasion but not anymore than my female trio.

12:20 the black and white guinea looks like my guinea kiyoshi who passed, I always miss that piggy. They make such great pets. Side note I never realized that females sold a lot more then males but that could be because I've always bought boys. My parents would always tell me the females were loud so I bought boys, but like they are all loud and the noise sounds cute so who cares.

I live here in Easton Md. There none available to buy or adopted. I just want two girls lol. I’m still thanking about it. Not sure. Watching a lots of videos about Guinea pigs.
@Cathy Butler Are you kidding??? Guinea pigs are everywhere! 😄 I adopted a couple through the local Humane League of Lancaster County in PA. Call local rescues, put out the word, look in the "Pet" and "Free" sections of your local newspaper, look on the bulletin boards in supermarkets and convenience stores--just ask around! I'm sure there are pigs galore close by.
