  • Business is hard no matter what you do. We are no exception to that. The world is a tough place and money is tight right now. What will we do? Throw in the towel? Scale back? We Tillman’s are no quieter but something’s got to give!!

I have raised pigs for 20 years since I retired from Alaska and bought a small 50 acre farm in Arkansas. Ì switched from multiple breeds to only OLD Spots. Enjoy your posts, thank you.

I’m afraid to even get started so that I don’t overwhelm myself but know that at some point I have too. Do what works for you both and your family and we wish you both the best. Thanks for sharing your lives with and look forward to seeing more. Hope you both have a blessed day.

You're going to be a homestead rather than a farm. A homestead grows food and sells the extra. A farm raises to sell and eats what they need.
We live in an area with a limited number of people who are willing to pay top dollar for meat when they can go to Walmart. Homegrown pork and beef are much better, but you can't sell pork chops for even close to retail prices. It's sad, but true.
I may get with you about raising some animals for us. We are traveling a lot, and raising pigs or beef is too time-consuming. We generally do 2 pigs and one beef per year.
Horses ain't cheap. They're an expensive hobby. Y'all may as well buy an airplane or yacht. Horses are a passion for a lot of people. I love them but I'm not willing to pay for them.
