    If little momma and big momma had a lot of stillborn piglets maybe it was the seed? or something environmental??

    I love the fact you have the pig nipple close to the wire to train them to be diligent while drinking. 🤪
    Great job , you need more panels next time to make 2 holding areas like the marine does. So you can separate some out cuz the box will hold 10 or so., are you guys going to castrate any ? That would be a good video , catching and such . Carl Blake has a great castrating wire holding aide for it. Ok well great tractor precision , lol
    Na great job with all you guys do. Todd

    I completely understand that farming IS a business. I also understand that you invested money and would need to invest more in another IA for them. I just find it too coincident that both girls had so many stillborn and they are in the same paddock together. I'd try them both again but give them a little bit of time to heal.

    We just could not keep our pigs from getting that setup beyond muddy or managing to climb in to play piggy pool with it. We had to go back to the barrel drinkers with a nipple. We are thinking about converting that same setup with nipples screwed into bulkhead fittings though.

    Chuck, Because both little momma & big momma had issues this harrowing do you think they could have gotten into some kind of poison food. Maybe black walnuts or rat poison from poisoned vermin. I don't know it is just weird two dependable sows in the same paddock with similar problems.

    Next time if you give her another chance you could induce Big Mamma after a few days past her due date and then send her off to processing if they are all stillborn again. It also might be a sign of a type of disease or infection that could be long-term inside that only affects her pregnancy.

    • @CaylaFenton-Reeder
      @CaylaFenton-Reeder Před 3 lety +1

      It could be a certain plant that is not good for the babies while in utero and then it is not Big Mamma's fault at all and she can stay forever!!!!

    Hey Chuck I forgot to update y’all on my latest find. There’s a farm shutting its doors in Cleburne, Tx I scored a full KuneKune mom and her 2 (1.5 week old) piglets boy/girl for $150 she lost her other 7 in the cold and she walked around. She’s a older mom at least 3-4yrs old. The same age as Big Mama I’m thinking. Do you think this will be her last time farrowing? I only got her because she came with the piglets. I won’t waste my time on a older mom or a bad farrowing. I learn a lot from you and Saundra
    🐷🐷🐷 y’all are great teachers. I’m wondering because of Big Mama’s contribution will y’all elect to let her retire on the farm? Economically she’s contributed RT? Lol #teambigmama

    Awe that stinks, I had talked about buying piglets from you before you started that list 😭.. But I really think the momma’s had something happen that caused those issues like infection or ate something that caused so many stillborns.

    Another great clip chuck well done mate. Just an unusual question from a fan from australia. Do u find your pigs give birth during the night or is it equal equal ??. My very first sow miss piggy gave birth to 9 pigglets during the night.

  • @shawn8163
    @shawn8163 Před 3 lety +3

    I am asking this question because I dont know. I know people worm pigs but do you have to worry about ticks or do pigs naturally repel them by rolling in mud ?

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  Před 3 lety +2

      They will get ticks but more problematic, lice. You can medicate them for it. Some worming medicines treat live as well.

    Processing a sow with a uterus infection is a bad call. Feeding a grown sow who can't produce a viable litter is a bad call. Save a extra gilt from one of your larger litters and cull her.
