Oh Andy, you’re the greatest, the Holte end say!
Andy gray was my hero, the noses had Francis. What a fantastic time to fall in love with the villa.
I was there , i had to stand in the kop with my older bluenose brother ,i remember Gray's goal really well.
I woz there. Great memories. Always a good game when we beat Small Heath.
Don't care what anyone says, football was better back then. Hardly a backward pass, teams always on the attack, more atmosphere in the grounds, shirts not sponsored, shirts numbered 1-12, rock up and pay at turnstiles, proper tackling, less cheating and dissent. Football nowadays is too sterile, over analysed with too many useless pundits trying to tell us what we can see for ourselves.
As a teenager, I fully agree with you, I really missed out, but you also missed out that football is also far less competitive and has monopolised where only 1 or 2 teams can win leagues, Villa won the league at 33-1 which was quite common obviously Leicester was a freak but won’t happen again. Underdog stories used to be common
Completely agree.
"Hardly a backward pass" = defenders spend half the match passing back to the goalkeeper who clutches the ball for 2 minutes at a time.
"Pay at turnstiles" = spend 3 hours qeueuing in the rain watching skinheads beating up drunks.
"Proper tackling" = locate anyone who can play a bit of football, send him to hospital, receive a stern telling off (but no card) from the ref.
"Less dissent" = Alberto Tarantini beating up fans decades before Cantona made it cool.
Must be one of the last matches where Jimmy Rimmer wore green cotton gloves,He switched to Uhlsport gloves this season and never looked back.He became a brand Ambassador and was the leading light in wearing the new style of gloves in the First Division.
Great ball from Little.
Great goal from start to finish utv
Villa in the railway end and bottom of main stand. Assuming we had the Tilton End too?
