DeMystifying the RX10iv Menus

  • The Sony RX10 iv and the RX10 iii are great cameras. However, they share one feature that is frequently complained about -- the large, complex and poorly organized menu system. While I agree that the menu system could be improved, any camera as powerful as this requires a complex menu system to provide the photographer with all the tools needed to photograph a wide variety of situations. I have many tools in my shop which I rarely use, but I wouldn't want to be without them. I just organize them so the ones I use frequently are easier to get at. You can do the same with the RX10 cameras.

    Thank you for preparing this video. I just purchased this camera and am trying to navigate and learn the system. This overview is quite helpful.

    Thank goodness that it has captions as I had to turn off audio because of the clicks.

    I was totally mystified by the RX10-IV's menu system when I first got it. Sure would have been nice to have your video back then! Sony should pay you fat bucks then put the link in their instructions, (which, although highly detailed, are useless compared to the video). Love the camera. While the complexity is sometimes daunting, the capabilities are awesome. It takes a while to master, but it's well worth the effort. Thanks!!!

      The RX10-iv is really a remarkable camera. The video took some time to produce, since I had to understand what I was doing, first. Even then, there are many things I didn't cover. I tried to cover the things I expected were likely to be useful to most users but were still confusing.

      @@MontanaMonk The customizable buttons are good, but recalling what each does after I've set them up is an issue for me. I'd rather they'd made a more comprehensive Fn button. But that said, I'm in total agreement that it is truly remarkable in every way.

      You have accidentally set FINDER/MONITOR to Viewfinder(Manual). You will have to look through the viewfinder to make changes. Press the Menu button and while looking through the viewfinder select Camera Settings 2 (CameraIcon2); go to Page 7/10; select FINDER/MONITOR - Auto. This will automatically change from monitor to viewfinder when your eye (or anything) is close to the viewfinder. When the setting is in Viewfinder(Manual), only the viewfinder is on; when the setting is Monitor(Manual), only the monitor is on.
      Hope this helps. Thank you for questions and thank you for viewing.

    Those clicks that you do are really very loud, much louder than your narration, it was not necessary to have those disturbances inside the video. Thank you though for your great work!

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I agree that the clicks are distracting. I have stopped putting them in my videos. I originally thought they would help focus on what was being changed but they were more irritating than helpful. Thank you for your comments and thank you for viewing.

    I can't believe this camera is missing time lapse

    • @MontanaMonk
      @MontanaMonk  Před 6 lety +1

      It does seem a little strange that a camera this powerful is missing that feature. Maybe they will do an update and add it. Although, I don't think the previous model had time-lapse as an included feature. I believe you had to add the app to the camera. However, most of the cameras I have that do include time-lapse have intervals that are longer than I would normally use, except for night skies. But have tools and techniques to deal with it.

      With a Sony app for Android. You connect the camera with the phone via Bluetooth and you can make a Timelaps. I have a gimbal attached so that one can control the camera too, plus can manage to do motion time laps. Turning around while shooting TL. So, evidently no need that feature for the DSC-RX10M4, plenty of way to do so.
      Search " Timelaps - Sony camera" in Android app store
