I got my first ever half marathon race this upcoming Sunday. Wish me luck boys
Edit: thanks everyone so much for the kind support!! I ended up running a 1:49 which smashed my goal of just breaking 2 hours, it even put me into the top 10% out of roughly 7,000 racers!! I immediately signed up for my second HM which is in May. My next goal is sub 1:45! I’m hooked for life, running is awesome!!
me too!
You can do this! Take energy from the crowd and just keep moving no matter how slow. Good luck!
LFG
Go get it chief

Kipchoge will win the mens. But Boston is a very different animal than most other marathons. That downhill eats quads for breakfast. The weather is random as heck. Hot one year, freezing the next, rain another. And then there is the hills waiting for you starting at mile 16. So it’s not as simple as just translating a PR from a “well-behaved” race. It favors a runner with experience and ideally a deep knowledge of the course. Having said all that, I don’t see Kipchoge being beaten by anyone.
Kipchoge has the best chance of winning I think, with his record and experience. Kiptum would have the least chance due to lack of experience. It'll be interesting to see of Kiptum can consistently put in fast times though
@@jamie_edwards7090 also, kipchoge is training on hills back in his hometown..
@@popopopo4981 all Kenyans know the hills as they born and rise on the hills
@@19Kamau79 yup i know thats why i mention to the subject post bcoz he said boston is a very different animal than most other marathons..
but even if kipchoge could break the boston record, this video said it cant be a record because of the grade of the course.
@@popopopo4981 yes, Boston isn't about pacing it's all about racing
It is EXTREMELY important to understand that the wind and weather are what controls how fast Boston is. In 2011 there was a 20+ mph tailwind the entire way. That is why it was so much faster that particular year. The issue is that the course doesn’t always have a tailwind. That can just as easily be a 20 mph headwind or driving sleet or 90+ degrees F with humidity. The unpredictable weather is what makes Boston…. Unpredictable. Even Kipchoge couldn’t overcome a 20+ mph headwind without drafting off of 8 other runners the entire way. The weather will control how fast this Boston is. It always does.
Wish you brought up that Mutai had a huge tailwind when he set the Boston CR (Boston is not a looped course, but point to point where a tailwind would be favorable for the entire race, another reason why the record isn't legal), but awesome video as always!
Ya, I ran a 20 miler on Boston course that day picking up as I went and although I've run 2:22:22 for marathon, this run I was clicking off sub 5 minute miles at end. Wind was stupid fast.
Don’t think that’s fair to say it’s not a legit record. It’s still a marathon outside where everyone has NO control over the atmosphere
@@eddiemac24it’s the same deal as how a 100m or 200m on the track is not allowed to have more than 2.0m/s tailwind
@@eddiemac24 if they allowed one-way courses, the world record would be set on some plateau or costal plain with 50mph tailwind. That would be stupid.
Having 9 women under 2:19 in a single race is insane. Last year alone I think 10 women ran below 2:18 in 2022, this is likely the most stacked women’s marathon field ever. I’m so excited to see this men’s and women’s race.
Sorry, but calling B.S. Totally unknown runners coming out of nowhere to smash records like this? Hello, EPO. No sale. Time to amp up drug testing. Look at how many years Eliud has been hammering away at it to clock the times he has achieved. THAT is credible. Debut marathon sub 2:02? When pigs fly ...
I wonder how fast J S Bach could have run. Well, he did play a lot of organ and the organ uses your legs a lot, so his legs were probably in pretty good shape!
Bruh I read "Having 9 women under 2:19" first without context
@@Balsieur !
@@musiclover148 why would you want to see woman men race that's unfair advantage. Trans men are already crushing women's sport
Who would have thought going back 10 years, that distance running would become such an exciting sport
Mutai's Boston record time had another contributing factor for it not to be considered a World Record. A considerable tail wind and Boston is point to point. I'm exited about this years Boston. Hopefully Eliud can get the win and follow up with the NYC marathon in November and go the marathon Grand Slam
Rain, headwind and +4C° isn't easy task either..
@@19Kamau79 The only Major i have competed in was NYC, missed the ballot several times for London. Boston always was the one i feared. Will it be freezing or sweltering? How do you prepare for it? I have met a former Boston winner, not that year, but His Boston stood as the fastest marathon recorded by one of my countrymen. He spoke of that favourable wind day and how it was blowing long haired runner's hair in front of them. Needless to say, Boston is the most formidable of the majors
What's your time?
@@johnlothrop293 Pb in a marathon? 2:53, also had a 2:54 and 2 3:02's
I don’t think anything is bigger in this video than the GOAT running Boston.
Amazing to see the human potential always being pushed farther than we thought possible.
Awesome to hear Kipchoge will run NYC this year!!
Where’s the article?
@@ryancorm no article. Just poking fun at the clickbait nature of this channel's video titles (content is still great though).
Geoffrey Mutai is legendary one of the best to do it.He had a incredible training regiment mostly done by himself which takes mental strength to train alone.🥊🥊🥊🥇🥈🥉🥋
VERY VERY EXCITING TO SEE THEM RUN ,Hope Kipchoge can win it and win every marathon ever exist.Trully amazing.Hope got live🥺
Such a legend. I find it weird 2000-2013 have the same quality footage lol
im going to win the 2023 boston marathon
Yes , do it 👏👏👏👏👏
No but you will win the 2023 best stream sniper award
I watched a rather cryptic interview Kipchoge gave about the possibility of a sub 2 no pacers race in a world major being "real, very much so." It struck me that the humble G.O.A.T. would even say that. On the women's side Boston is always a shocker, my dream would be a come from out of nowhere by a completely overlooked elite, but who knows. Proud to be a (slow) runner.
amazing Eluid Kipchoge
Great video, going to be an interesting race!
How do you make EVERYTHING dramatic?!
Love it.
You forgot to mention that when Mutai ran his course record, there were record tail winds and otherwise perfect weather. If there is even a slight headwind, Kipchoge will struggle to set a new course record. There is a reason why times at Boston are slower than most other courses.
Kipchoge busting the 2-hour mark.
That would truyl shock the world
I can actually see that happening, it would yet again be an unofficial record, but cement the fact it is possible
If he has a strong tail wind, sure why not? But without wind and without pacers, no way it's gonna happen.
@@frodo5882 Let's wait and see, there have been a few occasions where he has had to hurry the pacers along, not having them will allow him to set the pace
Not on this course.
The trainers have been the break through of the last 5 years
Kipchoge has proved he is not only the fastest male M runner but tactically the best, when it comes to stretching the field to drop the competition at the right time. With 2.02/3 guys with him in Boston this is going to be crucial. Expect some pace testing in the Newton Hills and then Heartbreak Hill at 20 miles. London showed us that he can stay patient to the last couple of miles before making decisive breaks! Kipchoge to win but this could be very interesting!
The times in Boston depend rather more on the wind direction than on the entry list..
the elevation graphs have different scales, leading to exacerbated differences when comparing. Isn't to say that the difference is not there (it most definitely is).
I literally don’t understand how people can perfectly pace and push themselves to their limit over the course of 26 miles
If you put Eliud Kipchoge into any field, that makes the greatest field ever assembled... :)
I hope Kelvin will run for Eliud to have competition!
This will be a Boston Marathon for the ages no matter who wins!
EK trains in the mountains?…pretty sure he gonna have a ball, running Boston!
Kipchoge has never run the Boston Marathon.
I googled it months ago.
He is such a prolific runner. It's a surprise he's never run this iconic location.
This is gonna pure joy
EK, EC, and AK in one race 😮
Maybe all marathons should be ran on a loop circuit, then all elevation gains would be equal. i.e. start and finish at the same spot.
It's going to be cold, rainy and windy... Yuki Kawauchi shows up and beats all favorites
I always have to remind myself about the advent of the super shoe.
Noti gang 👌🏽
Back in the day they ran lighter on their feet like Mutai and the 2nd place guy. Nowadays the big foam shoes make the athletes have a lot more bounce in their stride and a heavier foot strike
Nice
Would Kipchogi think of running the Commrads marathon in Kwazulu Natal in South Africa wgich I think is around 90km and it changes direction each year. One from Durban the next from top to the sea front. Hope so
His running style looks so elegant and efficient. Did you know the longer the distance, the closer the gap between gender and also age groups (provided the old person has no illness, no disability and is in good shape and on the other spectrum the person is above a certain age). Believe it or not. A woman can compete with a man over vast distances. It's just an evolutionary side effect of human being migratory.
With good weather, Kipchoge cracks 2h for sure
And probably Daniel Nascimento, the NY leader until km 32, will be there as well. Helping to have a quick start!!!
who needs pacers with such a field of participants!
The goat is going to break 2 hours
Just checked the rules for Boston, and they absolutely will have pacers. The pacers just have to be legit entrants in their own right, which honestly shouldn't be hard to arrange at this level.
Most pace setters are infact competitors. Unless a contract is signed specifying otherwise a pacesetter is allowed to win the race. City organisers prefer this because it adds extra motivation for the athletes to stick with the agreed pace. Boston however does not like this and if pace setting is obvious those athletes are likely not to be invited back.
Can’t wait until (if) Cheptegei and Kiplimo move up in distance to the marathon
Shocking
Johnny Boi is correct. The race was not accepted as an officlal record because the runners had a 15 mph wind at their back for the entire race. And the temp was a cool 64 degrees. What's really amazing is the record set in Berlin.
Wakenya mko wapi 0:10 Jeffrey Moo-tai (Mutai)😂😂😂
Bro have you monetized you channel? because i don't even see a advertisement on your channel. Please. Bro reply
Tailwind w Boston record!
Without pacers, I predict a 2:02:37 from LITchoge
yup I thought exactly the same thing almost 2:02:35 was my guess
Jesus that's how long it takes me to run a mile
Kipchoge will win the Boston. I’d say due to the terrain elevations, he will finish it in 2:2:+. Can’t wait.
sub 2:00:30 Kipchoge
This is frightening!!!!...kelvin kiptum!!!
Kiptum is a beast. In his 1st marathon he has already dipped below 2 hours 2 minutes. Only 2 athletes in history have ran faster than him, Kipchoge and Bekele.
Yes, he need higher juice concentration this round
I hope he is clean alot of upcoming athletes dope
Coisas que só o Atletismo 🥇🇧🇷
Across all distances, women are consistently about 10% slower than men. 1 second over 100m, 2 seconds over 200M right up to 12 minutes over a marathon. We are one transition away from seeing many of the women's world records drop.
Sad, but true. 🤷♂️

0:57 - how banks present your money - three graphs, two different axes.
The reason why Boston marathon is not suitable for marathon record is that the starting and the finishing points are too far from each other regardless of the elevation of the course
Goat Kipchoge will face some real test if he faces the three. More so Chebet is very competitive. But I believe he will win and possibly take down that record 🔥
April 17, 2023 is a Monday!
Lets see what happens, in particular women continue to improve at giant pace.
I am a HUGE Marathon fan - in fact I consider it to be my fav sport/sub sport. But I think it's so RIDICULOUS to even talk about the Marathon Record as each course is so different - AND ALSO the weather on that given day means that you can't even compare the times from previous years ON THE SAME COURSE in some cases if the weather is way off
wonder how kipchoge would do if he were wearing the shoes that old marathon world record holders wore
Eliud 2:02:02
Kipchoge and Kiptum, 2:02 or 2:03 + Beriso, 2:15 - 2:17. But we'll have to see :D
Kiptum is not racing Boston this year. He wont be running it next year because by then he'll be suspended.
What would've happened if Mutai would've had modern advice and a pair of Alphafly's though? Swings and roundabouts I think.
Mutai is not in the same league as Kipchoge. A great runner but he never doninated his peers to any level like kipchoge does.
Amos and Kelvin are not running the 2022 Boston marathon. It's Benson Kipruto who is running it.
Look human, built like 👽 runs like a 🐆 damn
Cool
Eliud Kipchoge drinks 10-15 teaspoons of sugar every day. True story.
Kipchoge 1.57 😀
Kipchoge 2:00:57
What would prevent Kipchoge coming with a couple of team mates running in front of him just as pacers would do?
They would have to be there the entire time, they can’t swap in and out like his breaking 2 race. If anyone was fast enough to keep up with him the entire time they would just try to win it
@@matthewkunzi3095 normally, pacers last at the winner pace until km 25 o 30
@@matthewkunzi3095 NN team has plenty of athletes that can keep up with Kipchoge for 25-35km
Im sure NN will give Kipchoge a couple of friends but at the same time Bostons rule about pacers is simple. Kipchoge is the single biggest figure in the history of marathon racing. He is the face of the sport. He will not be doing anything that is outside of the very spirit of the race. He will not be seeking any sort of advantage over his competitors.
I really enjoy your content, but are the clickbait titles really necessary?
what was the purpose of the thumbnail
24 of the top 50 times in one year. Sounds like doping to me. Lots of endurance athletes (more specifically Kenya) also getting caught doping recently. Could be a new drugs or methods to avoid positive tests, corruption. Who knows.
It could well be. Also most Kenyan's train at high altitude but I'm also sus that there are factors that influence the times.
@@davidbarth80 Yeah but the kenyans in previous years also trained at high altitude. That hasn't changed yet the times they run have and the number of athletes testing positive has. It's not just the high altitude as well it's biological adaptations.
While I enjoyed this video, the title was misleading.
No rain for Mutai and a huge tailwind that day. R. Hall also killed his previous PR. Boston is super fast on the right day and slow on the worst. Kipchoge would have been well under 2hrs.
I think Kipchoge will win!!!
Boston 2023: Eliod Kipchoge, 1:59:57
I like the videos but please refrain from the click bait. When you say huge news and put up a number, it makes me think someone ran that already and makes the video feel like a let down. A real representation of the video content would be just as inticing.
Why do you say Boston is not as fast as other marathons but they have downhill too?
It will be drama for sure with all the heart attacks.
All are using vaporfly 2
Mutai without vaporfly 🤣💪 so this days they need run sub 2h or what?
Strap Alpha/Vapourflies to Mutai (and Mosop) and they get close to 2 hours for sure on that day.
