interesting because I’m pretty sure the odyssey “who hurts you” is his dad 😭😭😭 nvm it wasn’t poseidon but helppp me the way they did not give a fuck 😭😭😭
@weirdstories5400 the explicit reason Poseidon hunts them down in this is cause they left his son alive. Its his whole song. The plot of several songs is about leaving his enemies alive instead of killing them on sight. Athena leaves him because he decides to be merciful. He has a whole villain arc in the Underworld about abandoning his merciful ways. I think interpreting it as just ego when basically every god song is "you should just kill people" is just wrong.
@@Valentine011To be fair, they wasn't saying it was because of ego for everything. Just that the cyclops incident in particular was very much a moment where Odysseus got cocky. If he hadn't said his name and title, Poseidon wouldn't have likely known it was him. Those events happened because Odysseus and his men blinded Polyphemus and then Odysseus told him his name and title instead of just ending them. All the other instances definitely isn't ego, I'll agree. But @weirdstories5400 never said it was.
@@Valentine011I mean it depends whether we’re talking about this specific version or the story of Odysseus in general. They have to make Odysseus sympathetic because homie is an arrogant ass who pisses off all the gods, has 99.8% failure rate on getting his men home seeing as how he’s the only one to survive, and also spend 8 of the 10 years he’s supposed to be sailing back to Penelope banging another chick (1 with Circe, 7 with Calypso). Homie is supposed to be a hardened war general so he should be able to put down a cyclops if he’s willing to drop a baby off of a building but idk who am I to judge the reigning king of Ithaca 🤷♂️
@Geographynice it would've probably also made more sense to the other cyclops, what polyphemus told them was the equivalent of him saying "it was john!" like bro we don't know a john which john of the hundreds of johns there are on planet earth are we looking for😂
I like that Odysseus looks more terrified of Circe after she took off her outer clothing and started talking about "other ways of persuasion" than when she was trying to kill him bro was like this lady is crazy
Its amazing how a story, literally thousands of years old at this point, still manages to be so compelling. Truly a timeless classic made even better through equally amazing music.
Eh, its a good story no doubt but there's quite a few great changes in this version for it to actually work well. Odysseus originally was a bit douchey arguably by even greek hero standards and he'd be fairly insufferable by modern standards. Giving him much more of an inner monologue and constantly repeating his good intentions and faithfulness to penelope makes him a really compelling tragic hero.
@@user-ez9ng2rw9ci kinda love that. changing the characters and story, but keeping the over all narrative, to fit the changed times. that’s folklore. the hubris of man and what it does is an everlasting story.
@@user-ez9ng2rw9cBut that's what makes him cool! The fact so much of the story is him telling it to Nausicaa always made me wonder "What if this lying liar is telling lies?" and suddenly he's the first unreliable narrator.
@courtneycherry5582 ......and now I'm imagining a shirtless Jack Black with a long grey and black beard and as a Merman of sorts with a bad ass ornate Trident.
I just realized that Odysseus looked and smirked at the lotus eater when grabbing the wine, that's such a small detail that really foreshadows what happens
@@romeomimmotti Actually, he didn't sleep with them willingly. He slept with Circe because Hermes told him he needs to do whatever Circe wants to get his men back. For Calypso, she traps him on her island. In both instances, there's clear power dynamics at play, as both Circe and Calypso are goddesses, and Odysseus is a mortal man.
It’s just odysseus picking up after toddlers. Who ate the lotuses? Who killed the sheep? Who fell for Circe? Who killed a sacred cow? Who opened the bag? Who falls(ish) for sirens? After all this, with Odysseus mothering them, they still have qualms about trusting him?
No one fell for a siren. Odysseus wanted to hear the sirens song so he instructed his men to fill their ears with wax and bind him to the mast, while they sail past the sirens island
Tbf she did warn him that she had her own catch to the game and basically told him he'd have to be careful on who he trusted. Nit her fault that he failed at the final stretch
I adore the “waiting” echoes in Penelope’s song because it harkens to scenes we never get to experience between her and Odysseus’s mother and how they must have taken comfort in each other until her final breath. This also is kind of a reminder of how strong of a woman Penelope is because not only is Odysseus missing, her mother in law gone, her son also not present during that period (correct me if I’m wrong), but there are people in her house who are happy about each of those things and truly are just coyotes waiting for easy pickings. Too bad for them the royal family of Ithaca is anything but easy pickings (and a certain goddess tolerates them more than most humans as well)
"The Underworld" hurts and thats just fuckin not fair dawg. Im already a little soft bitch, you can't throw the fact odysseus has been away so long his *previously perfectly healthy mother* is dead and still waiting on her son to come home. I can't be sobbing thinking about my mom dying at 1:30 am
Every time I hear Underworld I cry like a little bitch at Polites' and Odysseus' mom's parts man. And while Polites' bit might not hit people too hard depending on how emotionally invested they got with him and all, I think the fear of a parent dying or the actual experience of losing a parent is something that can be relatable for a LOT of people, which is why that part hits so hard despite us never once meeting or hearing about his mom before that.
This is when I started to break 1:24:40 I give kudos to Odysseus for being loyal to Penelope untill the end, but gosh Calypso's grief just hits me like a train. I think its cause its such a real and modern situation. Feeling meaningless all your life. Without love, care, or attention from anyone. Adding unrequited love to the mix, it will certainly make someone keel over from grief.
Odysseus saying he loves her only to backtrack HURTS man, especially when you hear the sheer hope in Calypso's voice. The first time I heard it in the livestream, I cried
@@aukkuboii so far only the first act of songs has been released, with the first saga of act 2, containing 4 songs, being released on the fourth of july. everything from after "monster" in this video is comprised of snippets that we've been given of future songs
if there is ever an updated version to this in the future, there was this animatic recently posted that I think is really cool of "No Longer You" by Ximena Natzel (just as a suggestion, this is already amazing as it is man)
I also recommend Gigi’s Monster animatic, it really shows the breaking of Odysseus’s morality. Plus it would not be the first animatic of their’s in here. Edit: I found one by the Britt for The Underworld. It really gives a good idea of how traumatizing the trip was.
Are we gonna talk about how freaking GOOD this compilation is?? I have been an epic fan for over a year and this is easily one of the best compilations i have come across. The only thing which can make this better is adding chapters to the video (like 1 chap= 1 song)
The end made me cry I don't know how i will react when all of Epic will end... Jorge made such an amazing and beautiful work with the saga with got so far, looking forward to Vengeance Saga gonna be amazing
@@hootyprod in one of his new tiktoks, Jay says that he hoping to release the thunder saga this year. That one has scylla, mutiny, thunderbringer, and two songs he hasn't released anything for because he said it's better to go in blind since they have new content that wasn't in the Odyssey. I can't wait!
Something I find funny is that the suitors have a whopping 3 songs to hate them as much as possible. And it worked as 2 songs are Little Wolf and Hold Them Down (In other words, they bully a nice kid and plan to sleep with his mom like a true gamer).
I feel so bad for the cyclops, some random people come into his home, kill his friend and make him blind so he is no longer accepted by his kind. Maybe a monster but he deserved respect lol
Even as just an instrumental right now, that Just A Man reprise at the very end of it all is my favorite part. That is gojng to absolutely SLAP when this is finished.
in my mind the perfect ending after the penelope and odysseus beautiful moment would be hermes walking onto the stage after the curtains close and be like “well, that was certainly a wonderful musical, wasnt it? you could almost call it… epic 😏 HAHHAHAHAHAHAH!” then the orchestral music comes back for a split second before the final chord 🌝
I don't think the goal is to make you root for Odysseus😂 Remember in Thunder Bringer, Zeus will give him a choice to make. And Jay's said it's gonna be the darkest moment in the show
Also peep Odysseus behind that guy when he says “we have the numbers and the might” I love when artists do details like that, really fleshes out the scenes
I'm so fucking hype for Dangerous to come out fully Also, thank you very much for explaining everything between songs and stuff because now the story makes a lot more sense to me
I straight up listen to this everyday, so cool to see the title changing and more work being put in this. Thank you for compiling all of this together!
RIP Polities🫡 you greeted the world with open arms. Edit: am I the only one who thinks Odyssius looked like he did an attack on titan move in Survive when he swung 2 swords
@@sondosmaher9753 Yep. While Odysseus loved Penelope throughout everything and he valued her above all else, he did end up sleeping with both Circe and Calypso. Also another extra thing I might need to confirm later but apparently Circe and Telemachus also had a thing at one point. From what I looked up they got married but I haven't read the Odyssey so if anyone has please correct me
@@ThatOneGuyJay13I mean it wasn’t really consensual with both Circe and Calypso. For Circe, she’s a goddess witch, so there’s a power dynamic there since Odysseus is only mortal. Also, in the Odyssey Hermes told Odysseus to do whatever Circe wanted so he could save his men. So basically, Odysseus only sleeps with Circe to save his men. In the case of Calypso, he’s stuck on her island for seven years. She’s also like half-goddess. Basically she forces him to sleep with her, but he cries on the beach every night because he misses home so much. At one point the gods offer Odysseus immortality if he stays with Calypso, but he refuses so he can return back to Penelope and Telemachus. At another point in the story, Odysseus washes up on an island and the king there tries to help him get home. The princess of that island wants to marry him, but Odysseus rejects her. So even in the original myths, he was forced against his will to sleep with them, and did every thing in his power to return home.
@@ThatOneGuyJay13Telemachus only marries Circe in the Telegony, which was an alternative epilogue to the Odyssey written by a different author like 100 years after. Basically in that story, Odysseus had a child with Circe named Telegonus. Telegonus goes looking for his father, and finds him on Ithaca but accidentally kills him since he doesn’t recognize him. Telegonus then brings Penelope and Telemachus back to Circe’s island. There Circe marries Telemachus, and Penelope marries Telegonus. It’s like a weird fanfiction written by a different author who was Roman, and Romans hated Odysseus. Romans basically hated Odysseus because they saw themselves descendants of the Trojans.
In a least one translation each you get either people implying that you can't deny gods ANYTHING and he didn't get to choose one way or another ergo not something that even Hera could be rightly mad about or that of course he did why wouldnt he. I dont think ive got enough info to decide whether one or the other is more supported by og language/culture...
I cried at Calypso when the snippets first came out but to see them with animation hurts more. But im also really not ready for him and his son to reuniting song fully. Just seeing this made me cry so badly.. to hear that whole Saga is gonna hurt
@@_TF2Enjoyer that's so cool, though i do have a couple notes after watching the whole thing 1, please add the SA warning back in 2, i think they're actually going to lean into Apollo being the god of civilization, since Odysseus is a king, rather than archery
Gotcha 👍, I will get that in the for the next All Clips, ty for giving feedback! Let me know if you have issues with any of the other songs, I wanna make sure that the viewers are happy
Even if it’s just a snippet, the JUST A MAN reprise at the very end made me legit tear up. GOD DAMN I can’t wait to see all the sagas finished one day 😭😭😭
WOAH THIS IS SUCH A COOL EDIT-it already was, but you can clearly tell how much effort you put into these compilations (love the intermission you added, too).
I personaly cant wait for all of these songs to be finished and I apologise if they are and I am just stupid -telemicas and athena Both songs -God games
I recently noticed that Athena in 'wotm' sings in the same melody as in 'god games'. Or at least if you compare the piece 'I had a challange, a test of skill. A magic boar only the best could kill.' From wotm to 'hold your tounge now, his son s my friend. And tell your lover that a broken heard can mend"
I’m so happy some of these songs have explanations before it bc sometimes I’m so confused of what is going on. But I just want to say, the suitors *don’t* want to kill Penelope. They want to SA her and take the throne
sometimes i listen to "the horse and the infant" and while i do know they're intending for it to be about prince Hector n all that...i also feel this can apply to when Odysseus fights The Cyclops later on "A mission to kill someone's son" - Self explanatory, the Cyclops was Poseidon's son :) "A foe who won't run" - The Cyclops never RAN after being attacked, instead attacking back. he also never ran when Odysseus ordered his men to attack "unlike any one you have faced before" - Before this point Odysseus hasn't encountered a Cyclops of all things "the blood on your hands is something you won't lose. All you can choose is who's" - This is the line that does it for me, personally. Odysseus brings up the many ways he didnt HAVE to kill Prince Hector. Take him away from this place, raise him as his own, anything other than death. But he did it anyways. Yet, he still CHOOSES to not kill the Cyclops when given the chance. He CHOSE who's blood is on his hands. And it was the blood of the innocent. The blood of an infant, not a monster. Like do i think it's entirely about the Cyclops fight? no of course not. but i also think this song shows who Odysseus is. a man who's willing to take the EASY way out, rather than the proper way. as it's easier to kill an infant who cant fight back then a Cyclops who can. hes cocky and confident, as he shouts his name to the Cyclops. To him, its a warning to the beast, to never harm unnecessarily, but Odysseus didnt arrive with good intentions himself. He kills the Cyclops's "favorite" sheep, his best friend, and then proceeds to put lotus in the wine as a last resort. theres two sides to every story but i like how each song shows Odysseus's side only, but the ANIMATICS show BOTH angles. like how in Polyphemus when Odysseus says "No bloodshed in here today" we focus on the shot of the sheep already dead, bloodshed has ALREADY occurred. then when he bows as he says his name is "Nobody" we see his shadow portrays horns, showing that in this moment, in this scenario, HE is the monster before he even decides to become one. the human reaction to danger is such a fascinating thing, and i really feel the Cyclops encounter proves that wildly.
It's also funny to add Athena even Said he's still a threat until he's dead. She probably knew that leaving the son alone would bring the blood on his hands but if he killed him has posiden said could've avoided all this if he had just killed his son
The cyclops drawing reminds me of a mix of the demons from The Promised Neverland and Alastor’s demon form from Hazbin Hotel, and a bit of a demogorgon from Stranger Things, and it’s one of the most terrifying things ever. I love it so much
As someone who has never heard the Gods speak to them, I am with Polites, but the gods wanted Odysseus to be hostile. I am so sad that the Odyssey does this to the hero and unalives their best friend, but it was so Greek to draw the conclusion of it all from the fact their best friend died and their first in command was trying to help the rest of the men. I cry every time it goes to the Underworld and you hear the faded chorus from Polites.
The sounds, the musics, the visuals, the ideas, the perspectives on the odyssey... Everything is amazing, the work is phenomenal. I loved every moment! Can't wait to experience this adventure again and again once fully completed. You did such a great job !

This polyphemus design is honestly my favorite, its less humanoid and makes it more intimidating
Telamachus' scribbled out eyes T.T
They need to make this on Broadway a movie something this is too perfect of music to not be shared everywhere
I’m so happy some of these songs have explanations before it bc sometimes I’m so confused of what is going on. But I just want to say, the suitors *don’t* want to kill Penelope. They want to SA her and take the throne
sometimes i listen to "the horse and the infant" and while i do know they're intending for it to be about prince Hector n all that...i also feel this can apply to when Odysseus fights The Cyclops later on
"A mission to kill someone's son" - Self explanatory, the Cyclops was Poseidon's son :)
"A foe who won't run" - The Cyclops never RAN after being attacked, instead attacking back. he also never ran when Odysseus ordered his men to attack
"unlike any one you have faced before" - Before this point Odysseus hasn't encountered a Cyclops of all things
"the blood on your hands is something you won't lose.
In the first song, when Odysseus encounters the Prince, Zeus confirms that if he didn't kill him, he would have nothing left to save
The cyclops drawing reminds me of a mix of the demons from The Promised Neverland and Alastor’s demon form from Hazbin Hotel, and a bit of a demogorgon from Stranger Things, and it’s one of the most terrifying things ever. I love it so much
My only suggestion would have bern to add the animatic that was part of the launch stream for The Underworld cause visuals where very strong
I agree! Some of those short animatics added a lot to the underworld saga😊
