The DVD game is the equivalent of giving to your little sibling an unplugged controller to "play" the game
I did it today lol
At least ur giving him a controller
But the dvd game is just a *sheet*
@@NamingIsHard828 nah it’s more like telling him your giving him something but you just give him nothing
When I substitute taught at an elementary school, in PE the teacher would sometimes just play CZcams videos of Just Dance to basically do this
ive done this many times before
a mario kart game takes 45 minutes when she plays it takes 10 when it's only me
I feel like the DVD game is for little siblings who beg to play with you but have no idea what they're doing, so they can think they're doing well and don't throw a tantrum when they inevitably fail
Tbh when I have literally nothing else to do at work I'll pull up a video of a DDR chart and tap along to practice my reading ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ nobody is around so it's not as stupid as it sounds. lol.
I did that with sf3 third impact once with a kid and he realized I was lying to him. He started crying and ran to his mom while I did my best to not avert my eyes from the screen
When my friend's younger brother was a lot younger we would play Wii games and when he asked if he could play they just gave him a Wii remote with no batteries in it and he didn't even notice.
We actually played the dvd game in gym class in grade school. The teacher wheeled in the projector and everyone in gym would play along.
That’s Friday night funkin for ya
I was grounded and in trouble with my parents. We went to the store and I used all my money to buy DDR for our house thinking since I bought it I'd get to play..... I got home unboxed it played one song and my mom sent me upstairs.... I had to listen to my entire family play MY DDR for hours and hours on end.
Unfair.
god damn that sucks
That's messed up lol
You PAID for that. Doesn't matter if you're grounded, you bought that with your own money and if you can't play it you should at least be able to prohibit your parents from just playing it themselves without you.. Man that's just awful.
@PVO I still feel like crying every time I read that comment.
13:57 i remember when guitar hero was big i really wanted one, but the controller was expensive where i live (due to no local company importing them in number). so i just installed frets on fire and held my pc keyboard like a keytar; i think i spent about 2000 hours playing like that.
same!
I never got to play frets on fire....what I did do was do the same thing for clone hero
Same lol I held my keyboard like a guitar too, it was fun.
Vanilla frets on fire is trash however
Saaaaaaame
Now THIS is journalism. Those animations are next level, m8
Agreed.
This is to good be to be called journalism.
@@OneSaltyBruh it can be called good-journism.... whatever that means
yes
Journalism refers to animation now?
when i was a kid, my family got a wii remote-shaped pez dispenser to give to my toddler sister so that she would sit quietly and feel included while i played actual wii games. same vibes as that 'dvd game'.
Imagine playing skyward sword and shes like WHERE AM I
I had that! At least I think lol, mine wasn't for pez but smarties
Same here!
I actually learned to play DDR by putting Stepmania in no-fail mode and pretending to play using my basement tile floor as a rough approximation. Did this regularly for at least 4 or 5 months before I could scrounge enough money to buy Supernova on PS2. At that point I was good enough to hop straight into the easier expert songs so it worked pretty well.
Now I have an actual Supernova cabinet at home I feel like I kinda went full circle
CZcams just recommended this to me and it was great to see my build featured in the homebrew section! 😅 Thanks for watching! Thinking about revisiting this build with a sequel in the near future - I really need a bar! Cheers!
PS: If you would be willing to add link to my video in the description so that others who are interested could find my build instructions, I would appreciate it!
The DDR dvd "game" has the same vibes as playing just dance using youtube videos. It still works but it doesnt hit the same
Imagine paying for just dance
LOL ALL OUR TEACHERS DID THAT
@@specialkawaiiangel Indoor recces
Nice analogy.
This is so smart. Why did I not think of this
That rendition of butterfly in the LCD DDR game is legitimately great. Too bad the speakers suck.
Nah it isnt the speaker's fault, its the sound chip's limitation
Just plug in headphones thr GBC has one
it's not the same.
the speakers are meme
gameboy was always meant to sound better through headphones. The games had stereo audio but the gameboy only had a mono speaker. Unless you use headphones.
Hearing Butterfly is Wild to me. I was mildly obsessed with that song when i was younger. I never played DDR I just really liked the music video and found it really amusing
Same! It was one of my favorite songs as a kid.
Isn't that the ringtone on those cheap Chinese toy phones
My mom bought me a cheap butterfly light up stick that sounded like it was being played through a car crash as the rubble compressed and shattered at a fair. I loved it when I was a kid but as I got older I didn't care about it anymore so I just tossed it somewhere. For the next five years I would randomly find it and it would play out that song and the quality of the song was never good but it got worse as the years went on till at some point it also began to sound like it was also being waterboarded but aslo really screechy. I finally snapped and threw it in the garbage when my parents weren't looking. Now every time i hear Butterfly all i can think of is that god forsaken stick.
I’ve been in the community for 13 years and MAN this is the best type coverage on pads from the DRR community I’ve ever seen in my life
I got my Cobalt flux around 2014 from a guy selling his daughter's two pads that she used after she went to college for $40 a pad, I sometimes wonder how furious she was coming back and learning they were sold
God that's so fucking shitty, reminds me of something my dad would do
As someone who has dragged their cobalt flux pads around for nearly 20 years now, so, so mad. About as mad as I was to find out my parents sold my bike at a garage sale without telling me, for the grand sum of $8, back when I was 12.
my dad thought it was a good idea to scrap my 1000 dollar bmx bike
If I was the daughter, I would sold one of the dad's favourite things as revenge
I won’t let this happen to me
I gotta recommend the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series for those that like ddr with controllers. It’s really fun and challenging. The DJmax series is also great.
Agree in later entries whether good or bad they go full on just hug your freaking controller cause sega made used all the buttons and motion controls out of it
Yeah, it has a lot of games with different mechanics too, available for Psp, PsVita, Ps3, Ps4, Arcade and Nintendo switch
Actually this is going to sound dumb: But as a Miku fan and a DDR purist- you know anyway I could play P.D. with a dancepad? PC or PS4, specifically.
It's just seemingly DDR with drunkmode enabled anyways-
@@aubreyholdinggun I would love to see that lmao, playing different rhythm games with the wrong kind of controller is the best thing ever
Osu is a great fun competitive game
10:56
When I was a kid my sister had something similar.
It was like a self-contained DDR council system. It came with a box that projected the arrows up onto the wall and two game pads that plugged into it. As far as we could tell the game pads did absolutely nothing. They provided zero feedback so the fact that they plugged into the machine was literally just for show. The projector was also extremely cheep, kind of like those holiday decorations that project static images onto your house.
Also it could only play like three songs and they all sucked.
15:51 this got me, especially the “I’m hacking! I’m hacking! AAAAAA!”

I remember seeing this video when it was relatively new. I remember getting so hyped up when I saw the segment about StepManiaX. As of now, a new arcade had opened in my area in southeastern Pennsylvania that has a StepManiaX cabinet. It absolutely lives up to the hype. As much as I always thought I'd be a 4 panel DDR/ITG purist, my experience with StepManiaX has changed that. And seeing how many other people are getting hyped about StepManiaX and how much Kyle Ward loves to interact with fans, I hope to see a growing future for StepManiaX. The stage pad is definitely the best dance pad I've ever used. And the 5th center panel is really easy to adapt to for someone like that's been playing 4 panel DDR/ITG for over 15 years. I could play it for hours.
KKClue is the only CZcamsr where I can watch his videos over and over again and not get bored.
so true

Playing some StepManiaX when I get home from work today, feels good :) Best pad I've ever used and I've played on a ton of pads since I started in 2003. My other favorite will always be the ITG 2 dedicab pads. A classic. BTW, Kyle Ward deserves all the praise I've seen heaped onto him over the years. The man literally gave me his phone number and WANTED to talk to me one-on-one over the phone when I emailed about something that was on my mind. I thought to myself ".....wait....he has time to do that? And he....WANTS to?" His customer service is second to none and I mean that.
He's incredibly passionate about the rhythm game community and it shows. When was the last time you can say that the creator/owner/contributor of a company/product emailed you or personally called you in order to discuss a possible concern of yours? It just doesn't happen. I'm not trying to place Kyle Ward on a pedestal but damn it if his work ethic and enthusiasm doesn't deserve to be recognized! He's a complete people pleaser and I can't thank him (and his teams throughout the years!) enough for everything he's contributed to rhythm games!
Also, 9:32 This has been my exact experience too. Things got a bit toxic at times (certain people and certain aspects of the dance game community) circa 2007 and beyond. Players talking down to me and acting as if I should just innately know certain things. It honestly ended up being what kept me away from interacting with most of the rhythm game community online (and sometimes in person), I simply lurked and watched from the stands.
No matter how good I knew I was, I was never a "pro" and I was never as good as certain people at the arcades I'd play at (won't name any names lmao) so sometimes, I'd experience that whole "You're not on my level, don't even talk to me." thing with the higher tier players. It was never everyone but there were/are definitely elitists out there, as with everything, I suppose. And I'm not gonna kid myself, I was at my prime back in 2005! These days, I'm an outta shape single dad lol. Anyway, my experience as an SMX player has been nothing but positive.
Shout out to Dimo for taking time out to write me a detailed CZcams reply on one of his videos when I asked him about timing stuff! Should out to Werdwerdus for making me feel welcomed on Discord and as someone who is starting to stream SMX! And shout out to everyone in the SMX discord who has answered questions I've had or commented on various tips I've recommended for "modding" your SMX home experience! It's a great thing to see and be a part of and I love that because I'm getting my daughter into rhythm games now so it's possible she might one day interact with the community whether in person or online. No one has ever made me feel stupid for not knowing something and no one has ever laughed at me or ignored me. People have simply been helpful and friendly, I'm really appreciative of that!
hey man, this was a really good read and it's awesome to meet you.
you definitely hit the nail right on the head with the elitism thing! i guess it just comes with the property of being a pro, but i would really, really like that to change.
hardcore players are way too heavy-handed, and it scares off new people from getting into it -- i was certainly a victim of that for many years. it's not just rhythm games, it's any hardcore community (smash bros, fighting games, etc).
while i was getting back into the game really hard in 2018 i found myself constantly interacting with jerks that expected me to know everything already when i was just trying to reach out for help.
when i was asking the community's opinions on things for the ddr video script, i discovered topics that you absolutely cannot bring up around 4-panel fans without getting your ass kicked. one example being, never bring up the client you play with. for example, stepmania 5.1, etterna, outfox, nITG, etc. it's like the console wars: people will always think whatever they use is the best. never refer to 'simcharts' as 'maps'. never say 'playing ddr', say 'playing 4-panel'. stupid semantic bullshit like that is what scares people off!
my biggest goal with the ddr video was to bring some positive energy that will bring people together instead of continue to perpetuate this horribly alienated community. we all want the same thing: we just wanna hit arrows, man. why does it have to be so heated?
thanks for reaching out, man, and make sure to not let them get to you. deep down this community really does love this game, but they need to be reminded that not everyone has all the knowledge on all the minute details about a specific video game.

I’ve watched this at least 17 times this is amazing
goddd i love ur editing style 💜💜💜
I ended up just buying a tournament pad from ddr game. So... Looks like I’ll be returning that soon
that reddit post was not lying they are actually awful
I was a casual that played the most on Extreme in 2004. I first played on a dare when I was at the mall with friends and saw DDR at the arcade. I was obsessed after that. It's awesome to see there's still so much DDR love. My pride and joy is my Cobalt Flux pad that I found on Craigslist years ago for $50 with a PS2 and some games.
Anyways, this was a nice bit of nostalgia. Great video!
it’s ok i’m obsessed with those games too
just don’t tell anyone ok
i’m stoopid
I gotta say, I really like the silly little sound effects thruout the video. Great stuff
I'm just happy that you have a clip of the video of the raging Stepmania player. I re-watched that video recently so I'm guessing the CZcams algorithm suggested this video to me as a result.
