    Lebanese olive oil is the best in the world. The olive groves are planted at the foothill of high mountains. They use water driven stones to extract the oil. The oil comes out dark murky green with a strong smell of olives . Yummy

      @matteotroncone  Před 2 lety +6

      Indeed a sublime and sacred tradition, whether in Lebanon, Italy, Spain, Greece, or anywhere.
      You are correct that the foothills are a great place for cultivation. Olive trees thrive in rocky, mountainous soil that is on slopes for good drainage.
      Yes, the mechanical process of extraction, (water driven stones is one way) is the BEST production method for sure to do it.
      It is truly one of my favorite aromas on earth. Buon appetito!

      Yah but that’s considered “Novello” and isn’t special to Lebanese olive oils, that’s just when it’s freshly pressed & it’s not unfiltered yet which is why it’s dark & murky.

    Hey, enjoyed your video. Unfortunately, the Costco near me doesn't carry the Toscano EVOO. However, they do carry a Kirkland EVOO (also in a 1 liter glass bottle for around $14) that's called a Val Di Mazara. Also imported from Italy. The bottle says 'Crafted predominantly from Biancolilla, Nocellara del Belice and Cerasuola olives'. Do you think this one might be comparable to Toscano? Appreciate you.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 2 lety +5

      Ciao, yes the Toscano oil is pretty sold out, especially around the Bay Area Locations. Customer Service can tell you what nearby locations/stores still have it in stock.
      In San Luis Obispo and Lancaster for instance, they still have a big palette. And it is spectacular for only $14; Still worth getting, and still green and fresh, with tons of flavor. ( i go through a liter every 10 days).
      The Val di Mazara sounds promising as it is a D.O.P. from Sicily and as a result they are listing the varietals. That is a VERY good sign and acidity will be very low. I presume it is from the 2020 harvest which would make it "last years", yet if well cared for, it will still be good.
      They are just about to harvest in Italy this week. So a new batch should be arriving by January, so buying cases are more prudent after the new year.
      I will look out for this oil tomorrow. And if you do end up buying it, Please let me know how you like it.
      Buon appetito!

    At last we found a bottle of this at our local Costco. And yes, it's two things: Expensive & Delicious. Unfortunately, taste and quality come at a price. This tastes so good that I take a teaspoon by mouth every other day as a nutritional supplement. I tried the taste test: 2 prices of toast, one with the regular Costco Olive oil and one with this oil spread on it (instead of butter). The 1st was close to vile tasting. The 2nd was delicious. This IS a superior oil. We're buying this whenever we can find it which isn't always at Costco, alas.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I am pleased to hear that you like this oil. For the money, you will NEVER find anything of this caliber in the States; not for $15.
      I must however correct you. Yes it is delicious. But it is not expensive whatsoever. Quite the contrary. An oil of this quality would and should, by all standards, be selling for a MINIMUM of $30 per liter. I would say $45 to be honest. This is why I made this video.
      You can find other oils that are higher in quality, yet you will pay a LOT of money - $40-$90 a liter easily.
      Now if you are comparing $15 a liter to any lamp oil that Costco sells, it is double the price.
      Again, most oil worldwide - roughly 80% is rubbish lamp oil, bottled in plastic, chemically refined, and used with rotten, rancid olives from God knows where.
      Toscano is a p.g.i. - protected geographical Indication,. So you know exactly where it is coming from.
      I reckon next year this oil will be at least $3-$5 more per liter, so stock up!
      Buon Appetito.

    • @mic982
      @mic982 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Actually, you're right: it is not that expensive when you consider it (as you did) in comparison to other types of oil. However, at Costco it is roughly twice as expensive as their plastic-bottled olive oil that we use for cooking. Since olive oil is used in about 90% of our cooking, that's a good amount of oil I wish we could find Toscano p.g.i. in more stores and in perhaps larger containers at better prices. I stand corrected as well as appreciative of your posts. @@matteotroncone

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 5 měsíci +1

      You get what you pay for generally. I would NEVER buy anything in plastic. Not only do the microplastics leech into the oil, plastic containers are a sure fire sign that the oil is rubbish. You CANNOT produce a quality oil for that price. Impossible.
      These agribusiness oils are chemically refined, often artificially colored and flavored, have no varietals listed because they don't know, And... perhaps most importantly, are made with rotten, rancid olives that are not harvested but left to fall to the ground and rot; then vacuumed up with a big machine and then chemically treated and refined to deodorize the oil. The is how it works, and why it is it so cheap.
      But we are deserving of much better.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 11 měsíci

      Ciao Frank,
      Thanks for writing and for the question.
      Colavita is, as you say, a supermarket oil and largely they make lamp oils, no doubt. They might make a higher end line but I am not a fan of theirs. Leonardo Colavita, the president of assitol, the olive-oil trade association, and the owner of Colavita, the olive-oil company, was indirectly involved with scandalous and fake oils. I am not saying he is corrupt, yet people who he has business dealings with certainly have been. I think it's better to avoid this oil. You can do so much better. There was a New Yorker article about this some years ago,.
      Partanna every one asks me about. It usually comes in a tin can and Walmart sells it. I have actually never tasted it, yet am skeptical of this oil for a few reasons; the other being that Starbucks which now serves olive oil in their coffee as an option has partnered with none other than Partanna as their supplier.
      I prefer to stick with smaller name brands that I know and trust , that are d.o.p or p.g.i. and are using traditional methods of cultivation, harvesting, and pressing and don't have to produce a volume for a Walmart or a Starbucks.
      Although Toscano is from Costco, I don't believe it is in every store, and once they run out, you have to wait until the next years harvest. The 2022 harvest is in one store near me at present but not in another once nearby.
      Buon appetito,
      m

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 11 měsíci

      In addition, I don't think this is a good thing for quality. And Colavita still allows mafia and corrupt and indicted oil companies to remain members of Assitol.
      "Assitol collaborated with the Italian Ministry of Agriculture on a proposal to create a “Mediterranean Axis of Olive Oil,” which a 2004 government document described as “an informal cartel of international dimensions among olive-oil producers.” According to Colavita, assitol’s president, the project was initiated by Gio-vanni Alemanno, the agriculture minister from 2001 to 2006, and would be financed by the Italian government. The goal, he said, was to expand olive-oil production in Syria, Morocco, Turkey, and other southern Mediterranean countries outside the E.U., and to facilitate the sale of the oil in Italy, using a duty-free storage facility in a southern Italian port."

      Hi Mark, Please excuse the delay. I thought that I had responded but apparently it did not go through...Thanks for writing. My favorite oil in Italy for the money is hands down De Carlo. You can get it at Eataly in the states. To be honest, I think you can do way better than California Olive Ranch. While their oil is NOT Lamp Oil, it is nothing special in my opinion and not worth the money, especially since you can get this oil from Costco which is absolutely spectacular and a steal at $14 a liter. This quality is typically seen with oils that are double the price.
      As I mentioned in previous videos, oil from Tuscany general is superior for several reasons; their harvesting practices, the land and climate, the varietals that they are using, and the fact that this one is P.G.I. making this oil particular oil light years ahead of COR. I don't know the Ojai Olive Oil, yet would be interested to try it of course. Land in California, as well as labor is very expensive compared to Italy, so generally in my experience, you can way more for your money with an Italian oil from Tuscany. Buon appetito! m

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Heidi,
      That is a good question. I have researched to see the exact count of polyphenols in this oil, yet it is unavailable. It did however get a 100% ranking from SkinSafe.
      But I can assure you, it is VERY high. if you taste an oil, such as this, and it is fresh, green, grassy, and has pepper and spice at the finish, I guarantee you it is very high in polyphenols. These tannins/antioxidants/polyphenols can ALWAYS be tasted in the oil.
      This will diminish over time, as the oil ages. This is why I am always on the look out for the freshest, newest harvest of a good brand or line.
      I have asked Costco if and when the 2021 harvest of Toscano will arrive and they have no info on when or if this will occur. It should've been available in February as the harvest is in November/December.
      Last week I opened up a fresh 2020 bottle and it is still quite good. However, it has definitely lost some of the stunning aroma, flavor and power that is had a year ago.Yet, it is still a great oil, especially for the price, if you can find it.
      I reckon if this oil is stored properly - I keep all oils, nuts, and seeds in the fridge- I imagine this oil will be good for another year at least.
      Basically for me, I don't worry about the number. I go by taste, varietals, harvesting and pressing process, region, if its d.o.p. or p.g.i. , harvest date, and if it is fresh and yummy. This certainly is an amazing find at a shockingly low price. Buon appetito!, m

Only early harvested EVOO will have these medicinal properties, unlike most commercial "lamp oils". Salute! M

      NO!. DEFINITELY not. It might be from Italy, or packed in Italy. It might be 100% olive oil, but by no means is this good. It's rubbish I am afraid. It's an example of the ubiquitous "lamp oil". That is why it is so cheap. It's not good for anything, except maybe your bike chain.
      Nothing in plastic will even be any good. With Lamp Oil they chemically refine it, deodorize it, inject artificial coloring and flavoring in it, and also they use heat extraction to produce it.
      You deserve Toscano or even better.

      Thank you for your insight I appreciate it. I once bought the EVOO 1 liter in glass bottle from Costco which was $14 at that time as well. However, I consume it really fast, as I use it every day on my guacamole, vegetable soup and so forth. It only takes for that 1 liter EVOO less than 2 weeks. On my second buy, I got the Kirkland EVOO in dark plastic 2 liter bottle that is mark made in Italy cold pressed, for $14 as well. I consume all the bottle in a little over 2 weeks. I know EVOO in glass from Costco is way better because it is in a glass bottle and the certification that comes with it. I will buy the EVOO from Costco in the glass bottle again for it's quality and health benefits. On the other hand, the EVOO from Italy cold pressed in plastic bottle also surprised me some of its health benefits, externally which I didn't expect. I did an experiment to use as my moisturizer, skin lotion, because my skin is always dry and itchy and I also have a thick callus feet, which I have to use an electric callus remover every 4 days because it regrows and it's very painful for me to walk . However, the previous lotion and moisturizer that I buy, I have to reapply it every couple of hours because my skin will get dry again. I did an experiment and use the EVOO in plastic bottle as a body moisturizer the fact that I heard that Koreans use it as a moisturizer, so I tried it. Lo and behold, my feet doesn't regrow callus and it became smooth. I only apply it at bedtime, body and face moisturizer during day time. My facial warts and skin tags gradually dissolved. I also use it as my sunscreen as well. So what I did I bought a small dropper bottle from Amazon and filled it with EVOO and bring it with me to reapply it as my sunscreen and moisturizer when I'm out and about. The electric Callus remover that I bought haven't been utilize anymore. What I will do now is buy the EVOO in glass bottle from Costco for internal use and the EVOO in plastic plastic bottle for external use. Lastly, I also tried the Trader Joe's EVOO in glass bottle and it taste rancid with fish like smell, so I stop using it. The EVOO in plastic from bottle is way better taste and no fishy smell.

      Thanks of writing and for also seeing for yourself; the best test. I am willing to be wrong about this and other things in my life. And when we know better, we do better.
      My experience with harvesting olives in Chianti for my film Arrangiarsi (pizza...and the art of living) confirmed all of this and more. And when I toured the film until the pandemic, frequently in q&a's I would get questions about olive oil. So I decided to do some videos and spread the word, and also with the hopes of spreading the word about my film, hoping people would watch it as a result. That did not happen. And this is fine.
      I still want to make more videos about what to cook with, which oils to avoid, which ones to buy, how to identify quickly a lamp oil, and so forth. Yet life has taken a different turn and the time, space, and energy to do them has not been there in the last year.
      I do desire to pick up where I left off. And... I also have other interests that I want to make videos about. So I am a but confused what to do, since my other videos would be about photography, VW Vanagon restoration and how to take a shower in one, and also concert footage of artists I sometimes record in San Francisco.... I am not sure people wanting olive oil videos would want to see this....!

      Any really good EARLY harvested olive oil, if stored properly - in a dark, cool place, unopened, will actually last you close to 3 years, if well cared for. I actually store mine in a fridge. This is not necessary yet I prefer the taste when it is a little chilled and this will lengthen the life of the oil. I also store all nuts, and seeds and ANYTHING that has oil in it, in the fridge to prevent it from going rancid.
      When was your oil that expires in Oct. '21 harvested? That is an important question. To be honest when an oil of this quality is over a year old, it will still be yummy and healthful. Will it be as green and fresh as the other bottles? No. But it will still be good. They should not be selling this oil at costco if the expriration date is this year. I am surprised. At the very least it should be half price.
      I have a case of Bellucci, a very good oil indeed, that has expired 9 months ago, and it STILL is fantastic. DeCarlo is one of my favorites undoubtedly. If the expiration date is 10/23, it is from the 2021 harvest, rather than last falls (2022). So it should be cheaper than a fresher oil. I don't know WHERE Amazon gets it, or how they store it...
      If you want DeCarlo, you might try Eataly.com - with stores in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Jose where you will likely get the 2022 harvest. I also try to buy the freshest and newest harvest of course, unless the prior years harvest is heavily discounted.
      A good oil like this, if stored properly can last 3-4 years PAST the expiration date believe it or not! I still have some Belucci that expired in 2020 and it is still good. These oils I would use for cooking.
      I need to make a video on this actually. If the oil is part of what will be a sauce, I would use a high quality oil. If you are just frying something or grilling something, then I would use a real olive oil, but certainly not DeCarlo - perhaps Novello from Trader Joes, or an expired high end oil.

I am well aware that some oils on the market have been found to be fake, but are you saying that Costco-sourced oils fall into that category? As you will see in my previous videos, just because the oil is 100% olive doesn't really mean anything in terms of quality. I mean it's good that it isn't cut with canola, soy, or safflower, but MOST 100% pure olive oils are still rubbish. I explain this here: czcams.com/video/RTHl2KuZV0M/video.html&t and here: czcams.com/video/ejEsOZGKEFM/video.html&t for a great explanation of Extra Virgin; just because it says extra virgin doesn't mean much either. Sorry, I’ve tried this. But green olive oil means, they mixed a lot more green olives than ripe black olives. While it’s comforting to know the olives are coming from a specific location, the quality and taste of ripe olive oil is very different than green olives. You pay for what you get. Ripe black extra virgin olive oil is much more pricer and worth every penny.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před rokem +2

      I respectfully disagree. The process of "early harvesting" is a practice that only the very best ranches and growers use.
      When one harvests the olives BEFORE they are completely ripe, the quality of the oil is MUCH, MUCH higher in polyphenols - antioxidants, tocopherol, anti-inflammatory properties. This makes the oil spicy, peppery, green, grassy and stronger in every way, and as a result immensely more healthy.
      As a result of early harvesting, one yields less oil per olive, making the oil more expensive, yet much healthier, tastier, and fresher.

    what are your sources that the plastic Kirkland EVOO bottles are that bad? In fact, all the sources that I came across say the complete opposite of what you claim. Yes, they are not the best quality but good enough especially when compared to similarly priced EVOO on supermarket shelves.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 5 měsíci

      ANYTHING in plastic is bad, because the oil leeches the microplastics into the oil.
      Moreover, ANY oil that is bottled in plastic is almost guaranteed to be rubbish.
      A quality olive oil is always bottled in a dark glass bottle, is estate grown, preferably d.o.p. or p.g.i., has a harvest date, and lists the varietals used.
      The Toscano from Costco is hands down the best olive oil you can get in the States, for the money. You will NEVER find as good an oil for that price. At $15 per liter, it cannot be beat.
      The rubbish oils that Costco has that are half the price are all packed in plastic. It is IMPOSSIBLE to produce a decent quality Olive oil for that price. Impossible. To make a real oil, it is labor intensive.
      So plastic jugs are a sure fire sign that it is a chemically refined "lamp oil", might be extra virgin, but the olives are rotten and rancid, and contains olives form ALL OVER the world, and often contain artificial coloring and flavoring.
      If you think these oils are good enough, I respectfully and strongly disagree. Once you have a real, healthy , and medicinal oil, you will never go back and will spend the extra money for the real deal. Trust me, $15 per liter is nothing.
      I deserve quality and hope you feel that way too.
      In addition, I would much rather support real growers, who are actually harvesting the olives, rather than agribusiness, which is fast, cheap , and out of control.

      In my experience, Costco sells a LOT of rubbish lamp oils - oils that are chemically refined, highly processed, heat extracted, and stored in plastic bottles. These oils are actually unhealthy and do more harm than good. In fact , there is nothing good about them. This is the mainstay at this store, and most supermarkets.
      There are a few exceptions occasionally, which is why I made the video. Americans generally love a good bargain and seem to love Costco. Their California oil from the Cuyama Valley I reviewed and I had to take it back as it was rancid beyond belief; something I didn't understand as it was freshly harvested. The Toscano featured in this video is clearly exceptional and quite a discovery at $14 a liter. I highly recommend it. It is now $15 per liter.
      ANYTHING in plastic is going to be rubbish.
      In my other videos I explain that just because its organic doesn't mean it is good if they are using rancid, rotten olives that are not traceable, shipped from all over the world, and have no varital information or harvest date. these are ALL signs to stay away from 85% of all olive oils.

      NO oil stored in plastic is worth buying; What they call "lamp oil"; chemically refined, deodorized with petrochemicals, and also extracted with heat and solvents. In addition they are adding artificial flavor and color.
      Just because the oil is organic doesn't mean much at all. And the same goes for extra virgin.
      To meet it extra virgin requirement, they are lowering the acidity chemically.
      So this is NOT a real, true, authentic, medicinal oil. It might be from 100% olives but that is it. It is a very LOW bar to meet.
      Instead, I HIGHLY recommend buying Toscano that is P.G.I. or a D.O.P. oil which is light years ahead in terms of flavor, quality, and farming practices; and ones that do not contain artificial additives, were not chemically refined, deodorized, and have no trace of solvents being used in this horrible practice.

      I always look for green, grassy, peppery, spicy, and bitter to tell if the oil is real and fresh. The more of these qualities, the better the oil.
      The lamp oil at Costco and MANY other places is basically a neutral greasy fluid that is made fit for human consumption by the deodorizing process. Then, they add the fake flavor. But it is dead for sure. A real olive oil is fresh fruit juice and tastes alive and vibrant.

Better to look for P.G.I. with a serial number and to know where it is coming from. Technically ( and I am geeking out) even organic olive oil is allowed a certain trace of pesticdes. Yes. Growing organically is very hard in Italy as the fruit flies destroy a lot. So they do allow a certain amount and it still can be called organic legally. The place where I filmed, Pornanino, in Chianti, which you will see in my film www.arrangiarsifilm.com uses absoultely NO pesticides because they are higher in the mountains and the flies never reach Radda. But most organic farms still use a little to mitagate the flies. And this is only getting worse with climate change.

      Hey, thanks for your question. You can definitely use this oil to cook with. But it depends on what you are cooking. If you are roasting veggies, or sauteing onions and tomatoes, it would be good. it will add to the overall flavor of the dish and also will be used sparingly.
      If you are frying bacon in a pan, or grilling meat etc... it would be a waste, as this is a VERY good oil for the money. For general purpose cooking like eggs and things like this, I wouldn't use it. It is too good. I would use Novello from Trader Joes or California from TraderJoes. But I would NEVER use Lamp oil for anything. In terms of deep frying, to be honest it is tricky. ALL "vegetable oils" are quite unhealthy, inflammatory and have Omega 6s which are bad news. There bascially only a few oils that aren't going to cause inflammation and exacerbate arthtritis for example. They are: olive, avocado, and coconut.
      Vegetable oils are mot even from vegetables but rather from grains or seeds and are to be avoided. Safflower, Sunflower, Canola, Wesson, and Cottonseed are the worst ones.

Customer Service at Costco will tell you which locations near you will have it; otherwise next Februay they will hopefully have it if the harvest is good. I would indeed AVOID the Carapelli. This morning I saw it at the Costco in San Luis Obispo on sale for $8 - $2 off the normal price. Yet, I am not impressed with it. If you look on the bottle, the olives are sourced from Greece, Italy, Portugal and Tunisia - a HUGE red flag to avoid this oil. Who knows where they are coming from, what polutants, filth, insects, and chemicals they encountered on their way to processed. And how does one know how they were grown and what varietals they are?! You get what you pay for. I guarantee you that some of the olives were rotten, sprayed, and old. If you watch my first video ( czcams.com/video/RTHl2KuZV0M/video.html&t) any good olive oil will grow, harvest, and press the olives in the same location. Toscano is P.G.I. which means that the region of Toscana is monitored, protected, and locally produced - only from that one area where they use traditional and high quality practices and standards. This is one of the reasons why at $14 a liter, this oil is a steal. La vita é troppo breve per mangiare e bere male. Buon appetito, M

    EVOO (cold-pressed) is what we want.
    6 Tips for Recognizing Real EVOO
    How do we know if our oil is the real thing and not part of the olive oil fraud?
    1. Do not buy light olive oil or a blend; it isn’t virgin quality.
    2. When EVOO costs less than $10 a liter it may not be authentic oil.
    3. Real oils are sold in dark bottles, as this protects the oil from oxidation. Look for that.
    4. Look for a seal from the International Olive Oil Council (IOC)
    5. Look for a harvesting date on the label.
    6. It can get old and rancid. A simple test for a good oil is to taste a little on a spoon. Not rancid, the real oil will have a fruity taste in the front of your mouth and a peppery taste in the back of your mouth. Then you know it is not a fake olive oil.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před rokem

      I agree with your tips. Thank you!
      The IOC however I would not rely upon for any recommendations or seal.
      Your 5 tips, as well as knowing a producer/brand are better ways to go in my opinion. Just because the oil ( even with the IOC seal) is olive oil, doesn't mean it's a high quality medicinal oil containing tocopherol, tannins, anti oxidants and a yummy fresh flavor.
      There are tons ( literally) of oils on the market that are made of olives, but most of them ( roughly 80%) are still rubbish. Despite being 100% olive, they still have been deodorized, chemically refined, heat extracted, and injected with color; oftentimes stored in plastic bottles.
      #5 perhaps is your best tip in my opinion. The harvest date, as well as the expiration date, as well as getting an oil from an estate are great indicators of a high quality product.
      I happen to also like the D.O.P. and P.G.I. certifications which are a much better indication that the oil is quality.
      Thanks for your tips and for writing. I go through these in my other videos in greater detail.
      Buon appetito,

    the organic one and 100% italian one in dark plastic bottles from Kirkland Signature are good quality and true extra virgins. The italian is a bit better. The organic one was tested by UC Davis and determined to be legitimate with high polyphenols. The Tuscany you reviewed here indeed is quite a bit better than either of those(I tried it once and loved the taste), but that isn't to say the other 2 are bad quality. They are still much better than corn, canola, soy, grapeseed, etc.

    • @matteotroncone
      @matteotroncone  Před 2 lety

      I of course agree with you with regard to the Toscano - it is stupendous and for $14 per liter an incredible steal.
      However,
      NO oil stored in plastic is worth buying, and the ones you mentioned are indeed rubbish, what they call "lamp oil"; chemically refined, deodorized with petrochemicals, and also extracted with heat and solvents. In addition they are adding artificial flavor and color.
      I know about this study at UCDAVIS, and it is bogus to be honest. If you have it, please send it to me as I would like to re-read it.
      Just because the oil is organic doesn't mean much at all. And the same goes for extra virgin.
      To meet it extra virgin requirement, they are lowering the acidity chemically.
      So this is NOT a real, true, authentic, medicinal oil in my view despite anything UCDavis says.
      And you are correct about canola, corn, soy, safflower, sunflower and grapeseed oils - highly inflammatory and acidic; to be avoided at all costs.

      @@matteotroncone The Kirkland 100% Italian Extra Virgin olive oil is real EVOO. In order to label it extra virgin, the oil cannot be refined, deodorized, or extracted with heat or solvents. I have tasted both the organic and the 100% italian and both have bold olive taste, with burn in back of throat. In addition, it says on the bottles "cold extracted". There are certain requirements to label oil as EVOO, and Kirkland Signature meets and exceeds all the requirements for them. In fact, the organic one had the highest polyphenol content out of all the olive oils tested in the UC Davis study.
      I agree the Tuscano is higher quality than both, but that doesn't mean the organic and italian are fake or bad. Plus, the Tuscano is about 2.5 more expensive than the italian oil. It is a very expensive oil and most people couldn't afford it for everyday use.

      @matteotroncone  Před 2 lety +1

      @@irisce2799 I understand where you are coming from, and I respectfully disagree.
      The fact is to make an oil extra virgin, there are TWO MAIN criteria: It has to be the first pressing of the olives, and secondly, the oil has to be no higher than .8% acidity.
      Nowhere in the regulations does it forbid the oil from being chemically refined or processed to lower the acidity.
      This is how they get away with it. I explain it in my video here: czcams.com/video/ejEsOZGKEFM/video.html
      The oil that you are referring to has artificial color, artificial flavor, is stored in plastic, and has been chemically refined/deodorized. Cold extracted means absolutely nothing.
      It is about HALF the price of something like Toscano which is in another universe.
      If you want to go the cheaper route, I recommend Siurana from Costco which is a d.o.p. oil - on sale for $7.79/liter, normally $10 a liter.
      Anything cheaper than that and you are buying and ingesting rubbish and supporting big agribusinesses.
      You get what you pay for.
      For just an extra few dollars more, you are actually eating something healthful, rather than a neutral greasy fluid, whose olives are shipped from all over the world, rancid, rotten, and not cared for, and as a result extracted with heat, refined, and deodorized.

      As you can see in my other videos, ANY oil that is stored in plastic, does not list where the olives are sourced, has fake green color, does not list a harvest date, and often says "Mediterranean blend" is a BIG.RED.FLAG. Over 80% of all olive oil world-wide is rubbish; deodorized, heat extracted, colorized, and chemically processed. 80% of Costcos oil fits this category and is essentially lamp oil quality.
