In this episode, we return to the Market Street Power Plant. Last time we were here, we only were inside for a few seconds before setting off an extremely loud alarm. You can watch that video here: • Set Off Loud Alarms at...
This time however, we found that the security situation was quite different, and we were able to make it inside and explore the entire plant!
Special thanks to Jameson Nathan Jones for the music, the tracks in this video come from his new album Signals:

Why hello there.
Second link in the description (for the original video) is not working

That alarm may be broken, but it was hella effective
Yeah lol it sounded like a dying dog
Someone should add that sound effect to a Sirenhead clip.
I bet it was sirenhead 😅
Sounded like a damn wendigo
imagine hearing that in a dark building alone at night
That alarm sounded like a demon seagull giving off a battle cry.
well it is new orleans
Siren Head
what
I have to keep repeating that noise it's insane
KC Debris to me it sounded like a horror movie jump-scare noise.
I’ve tried watching other “UrbEx” channels but they either have too many people exploring or they won’t stfu. I keep coming back to your channel for a reason.
Or other channels are just clickbaiters. Proper people entertain and teach you the history of the location
Lorde explores, Dan Bell, Bright Sun Films are a few other good guys
i know, other channels just make stupid comments all the time
David Swick I’ll have to check them out.
As previously mentioned, I too like how they (proper people) educate you on the environment they’re exploring.
No other urbex channel has such badass intro music too.
i love the rain explore so much, it gives the video a whole different vibe.
Super relaxing and chill
Except for that part where it almost became a slasher/snuff film. D:
This and that recent mountain ghost town/them park are memorable because of the rain and the atmosphere. It makes this legitimately dangerous and dilapidated plant seem weirdly relaxing.
Yes, it's true.
Yea, I was also surprised that it sounded like binaural audio. It sounded like the splashes, droplets, and clangs were coming from different directions. They didn't used to have that did they?
Anyways, they really stepped up the sound quality and I love it!
Hopefully the pterodactyl isn't home this time.
Welcome to Jurassic Industrial Park!
@@joshuaayres8932 Now I just want a steampunk robot dinosaur park.
@@joshuaayres8932 That was good. How do those creatures fly? The same question is asked about bumble bees. It just happens.
@@wahlflower3517 you're giving me ideas for 3d models. hmm
Or blair witch.
I love the way they react to the guy at 14:39 like he's some kind of horror game NPC. "Oh, he's headed this way, we'll just go around".
I mean, I would be kind of frightened too.
have you ever been to any remote areas of NOLA?
8:35 I love how you just take a moment to admire the ironwork form and talk about it with clear passion. Is really nice to have this serene moment of seeing beauty amongst what so many would see as intense or grey.
It’s them knowing details like this and seeing them learn more over the years is exactly what keeps me coming back. Learning about the architecture and history is what’s so fascinating to me
I enjoy seeing another young person enjoy architecture
For those who are curious as to why there was alarms in this building, it's because they filmed part of the movie "Looper" here.
that's so cool ;o
never even heard of the movie, but it looks cool.
That’s awesome, I loved that movie
Jordan Mackie super sick! Thanks
Very cool. It'd be awesome to find the movie clip where they put the alien stickers over the gauges too
22:27 i was half expecting that scrapper to tell them to leave, but he was surprisingly chill and rather ok with them being there!
Maybe I'm mistaken but the term scrapper means they are going into a building not belonging to them to get scrap for cash, so why would they have authority to tell these guys to leave ???
@@hanza4348 They have the authority because they're armed and don't want to share the building with rival scrappers or nosey people that might blow their cover - it's the same way with illegal miners, moonshiners, grow ops, drug labs, etc etc. This is their territory.
@@platyhelminthes2877 I would have left and reported them ASAP. Stupid trash.
@@crazyguy5880 That would be the responsible thing to do - but would likely implicate you for trespassing, as well.
I like the guy is all giving them advice and sharing his wisdom. "Be careful" "Keep an eye out" "Be aware of your surroundings", etc.
Bryan and Mike: Uh, yeah, thanks. (We totally don't do this for a living.)
(25:01) that loop is a Horseshoe or lyre loop, it is an expansion loop, and stops condensate from accumulating and travelling along with the steam in the pipes.
That guy was actually really cool, the best guy to run into in that circumstance
What did he say? I couldn't understand it
I agree, usually, they're like "Uh-oh, scrappers, we better go before they shoot us and bury our bodies in the basement"
That’s because it’s the south. Down here we’re chill.
Up north...eh...
15:00 - For me, hands in pockets is a signal that the person doesn't want to appear threatening. I find communication defeats paranoid thoughts. Information is the magic sauce.
@@MichaelHolloway Hands in pockets tells me they could be holding a weapon.
Closed for almost 50 years and still there's stuff to scrap. Wow.
I know, right? I thought the same thing, how could there be anything left? Crazy
@@The_Hat_Man sex?
I don’t understand the scrapping, what are they taking and what do they do with it? Is it legal?
Must be still copper in the heat exchangers and large electric motors you need power tools to get the copper out these guys using power tools explains it all
Penelope Button scrapping is removing metal then sold to scrap yard
Most of the people in here are homeless people. me and my friends got chased out of the power plant by a dude with a giant knife! Glad yall didnt get hurt
Gang
Ccw would have solved that problem for you.
Wow that’s scary
Dude what the fuck me and my friends got chased out of there with a dude with a hachet
@@molyoxide164 tresspassing with a CCW is a big brain move
It never ceases to amaze me how easily these old buildings flood. Watching this videos thinking about how people used to work right where there is easily 6 foot of water in some areas is crazy.
It'd be cool if you had the chance to go back to that asylum that had the power on where you turned the PC on and left your names in a text file. Be interesting to see if anyone else found it.
There's a few different videos there, but I think 2 of the ones I saw were actually with Bryan and Michael that day
What video was that so i can watch it?
@@demonsandangels705 can't remember exactly who it was, I watch so much urbex! Kind of an addiction lol... But it was definitely cool seeing different views of the same place. Lol up abandoned hospital with power still on, they should be there

The sirens at 7:07 reminded me of an old factory me and a friend explored two years ago. We heard sirens which stopped _really_ close to our location so we assumed it was police and booked it, only to realise about 300ft from the building that there was a hospital maybe a quarter mile away from us and the sirens were actually _ambulances._ We even passed the hospital on our way to the factory.
Holy buckets, I was nervous watching you guys cross that tiny wood platform. Be safe guys, Michael your wild man jeez! Bryan was sitting down there thinking, "gonna have to change our name to The Proper Person If my boy slips..." Stay safe my good men! Another awesome explore!!
No kidding! That was terrifying! 😳
Imagine flicking those switches then suddenly the turbine roars to life. lol
Imagine hooking these abandoned plants back up to a power supply and a fuel supply and just seeing what happens. Pumping an old busted ass water tube boiler with some fuel and water and watching what happens
yeah id try and fire up the old diesel backups lying around i can see them in the background and i love big engines
@@22cj57 There’s always a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when whenever an old engine rotting for years and suddenly roaring back to life after a complete overhaul and proper maintenance.

I'm impressed with how quickly you turned tail when that siren went off. I have enough wartime PTSD where I'd have just froze for about 10 seconds while my brain interprets all the data.
3:17 is the creepiest alarm sound I've ever heard
It reminded me of siren head, but playing speed is x2
Both times (first video) and now, it gave me goosebumps. Such an odd noise
Yeah that alarm was creepy. That was the fastest I have ever seen them run in a video

Yeah
10:45 "that still works" *flick, flick, flick, flick*
Glad to finally get to see the inside, but it's so sad how mutilated it is 😞 would've loved to see some of these places in their prime!
It's kinda ironic they disabled this water-powered plant at the time the world was hit by the first oil crisis (the second happaened 6 years later).
Industrialism at his finest **chef kiss**
19:00 and the fans still spin. Man those are some good bearings
Love your pfp btw
When things were made reliably.
120 years almost and they keep on going... wowww........
They must’ve been packed tighter than a Super Bowl stadium to keep the elements out for so long
Ik a factory across my street that has fans still spinning, makes it 10x more eerie!
I've encountered some very nasty people exploring abandoned places before. Glad it went cordial for you guys, great video as always
19:36 That is such a cool shot. I didn't know ferns would grow out of a wall like that. That's amazing.
Guys, I wanted to say that The Proper People channel is without a doubt what I like most on CZcams, the atmosphere of each video is indescribable, I am happy to say that you make my life more enjoyable. Thank you. A hug from Brazil.
I live like 4 miles away from the plant it's an amazing place I have great stories from there. I've been chased by a homeless man with a pipe to a homeless dude on all fours running around. But besides that it's great
That was a truly freaky sounding siren or alarm that you set off at 3:22 on the counter. Just the sound of it would be enough to get rid of me, it was almost like an audio attack.
The scrapping just make this place seem haunted, as if the generators are trying to scream to life again
This channel could have it's own TV show. The production is amazing and this stuff can't be faked
No matter how many times I watch, the Intro music still hits so hard.😀
i remember that video! when the alarm went off the first time I watched it, it scared the stuffing out of me and I must have jumped 5 feet in the air! LOL!!
I was hoping the switching room being sealed off meant it would be Moslty unharmed... Man that's sad to see it obliterated like that.
Very cool to see, also as a current operator at a coal power plant, impressed at some of the knowledge you have of the vessels at all the generating stations you visit. Keep the vids coming! We watch them from our control panel lol.
4:32 - Did you guys get a pic of that gorgeous Day of the Dead painting?? I'd love that on my phone wallpaper!! 💜🤞🤓
3:20 dang that alarm scared me
oof this thing sounds freaking weird
I realize this is completely out of nowhere, even off the wall, but when I saw those lights way up near the catwalks and platforms at 9:16, a question popped into my mind: "How the _hell_ did they ever change the bulbs in them!?" (I'm a model railroader working in O scale [1/4"=1'], building on an early 1900s brick railroad enginehouse and I'm going to install non-working industrial lights, similar to those, hanging from the collar beams of the roof trusses, so I'm curious.) Seeing the blades of exhaust fans, like those at 19:00, whirling in the breeze always amazes me; they must have wonderful bearings to be that free-moving after 50 years! I really like your videos, guys, so thanks for all you time and effort to bring us these documentations of history. Stay safe, always.
A tall ladder. They sell really really tall step ladders.
@@joeythefoxxo Wrong-o! Cherry pickers. They drive in small cherry pickers, I’ve seen them in use.
Whenever I see those places I try imagining how it must have been like working there during its last few years. Run-down, leaky, old equipment, barely working. Dark industrial factory-like halls, dust and deafening noise everywhere.
I love exploring in the ☔️
IKS, Great you take the time to watch other explorers' activities. Of course, IKS is does their own share of honorable explores, too.
Rain always adds an interesting dynamic during explores; particularly when it's raining INSIDE a building!
Best regards. From the States, Keith
This video really reminds me of a game called rain world
chocolate rain
Did anyone notice the Christmas tree? The guys were staring right at it and completely missed it! Lol ! Play the video at 20:50 and look toward the bottom left corner of the screen. It's sitting there right next to the turbine.
oh damn, a mini tree
20:51 - 21:18

The acrobatics of some taggers to make their mark is pretty impressive.
My home state love it when y’all explore Louisiana if interested I may be able to hook y’all up with some to explore an abandon oil rig in the gulf or some of the abandon pilot towns along the Mississippi River
10:00 that is actually a make shift shower! Homeless people are running water from a nearby building

How do they get running water from a nearby building?
ClonkAndre _ they use a couple of houses and the extenders.
Please remember most squatters probably won't hurt you. I used to walk around an abandoned YMCA with a metal pipe, just in case. This sounds awful but they're just as afraid of you as you are of them.
You guys seem to have a good bit of engineering knowledge when exploring places, at least compared to other urban explorers I've watched, which makes your videos way more interesting. Its nice to have someone with a general understanding of things to explain what you're looking at.
21:43 Now that's a really spine chillin sound.

At 28:35 you can see the old tubes , just like from an old jukebox or amp. Thanks for filming this power plant !
These seem to be nixie tubes displaying some numbers back in the days. You can vaguely see the number-shaped cathodes. The panel to the right had an LED replacement for that purpose.
Oh wow, I remember the other video from years ago and never realized how close I live to this place! Gives me a whole new perspective on it!
LOL Bryan looks like he's been living off grid for a few years....until Harry's came along.
I'm so happy y'all were able to do a full video on the plant after the previous situation with the alarm. The last time I visited New Orleans in 2017, I saw the smoke stacks from the top of some bridge going over the city so quite naturally I had to drive until I found it. I didn't try to find a way in as badly as I wanted to, but even just the outside of the building looks absolutely mental.
I love the "Spirited Away" inspired graffiti at 10:30, it probably went over a lot of the people's heads, but really cool.
I used to live in New Orleans and saw this building every day on my way to work
Only OG’s seen the first time they visited this when it first came out
Even power plants built long ago had more graceful architecture than a lot of homes built today. I didn't think I was interested in industrial urbex but your videos have made me appreciate it. That guy at a distance casually walking towards you with his hands in his pockets was a creepy moment. I wonder if it was the same guy you were talking to later. He sounded like Rust Cohle btw.
Definitely one of my favorite videos so far... it has everything, a power plant, rain, soothing music, sketchy stuff going on...
U
I'm just gonna chill in my chair and watch this vid.
You and your chair, just chillin'
I'm gonna stand and do coke from a motorcycle chain.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that security system wasn't 'officially' decommissioned. 😂
I remember taking a few photos of this magnificent decaying power plant back in 2016, when I had New Orleans as a home port for the ship I was working on as a photographer back then. As far as I remember, it was the Carnival Inspiration.
I was temped to get a closer look, but I, too, noticed the alarm system.
I am glad I can see now how this historic powerplant looks like on the inside.
You are doing an awesome job.
That is quite possibly the most terrifying sound I've ever heard
I forgot how spooky the sensor sounded, scared me bad last time lol. Great video non the less.
I didnt realize this was where I lived lol. it's literally 2.8 miles from my house. that's super cool. I've probably driven by this thing (or the property) at least once.
That was very interesting and informative.. Thank you for the privilege of showing us inside this once very busy establishment.. Your risk does not go unnoticed 👍😉👍 continue to be safe and thanks for the great video 👌👏💪🤗
great to see you guys still at it.. definately my favorite explorers....i dont think i've ever posted a comment here before so i thought i'd show my appreciation.. Thanks for all the great content!
If I was your mum and watched you do that tightrope walk, I’d not be able to breathe! You guys are bad ass 🤘
I worked in an old power station years back (in the UK), it was beautiful in the turbine hall and control rooms, out he back was a shit hole. At the time I also got the chance to enter the old Battersea power station before it was finally closed and boarded up.

Another great video guys very intense. You guys never seem to fail one of my favorite channels on CZcams. Going to share this video and send it to a buddy.
You guys should seriously be documenting the ART that's everywhere in those spaces. It will never be seen again at this level.
will w yes but these guys are breaking laws too and some of that graffiti was definitely worth filming and you’d have to be an old bitter twat not to admit that it’s art
They've said before they're generally more interested in the architecture than the art. Every now and then they'll focus a shot on some standout graffiti tho.
Definitely not condoning the graffiti, but I found it fascinating. Haven’t seen that level of skill in a long time.
