People have no idea how valuable steam engine knowledge is, whether as the engine used at a mine, a water pump, or as a railroad locomotive. Which makes such knowledge priceless. Knowledge such as a book I have in my possession that is a technical manual for repairing steam locomotives. And the interesting bit? Published in my hometown, exactly 100 years ago in 1924. People have forgotten that the way we once lived, we used to take pride in our work, when nothing was throwaway or considered "preplanned obsolescence." Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's not useful. I would rather have dependable and able to DIY repair it, than buy new.

Those elevators brought op the food. I never saw the morgue, or even thought they had one. You did not show a bathroom.

I was 16 working those kitchens, 50+ years ago, in that first building or the Quad, you were in. They did pay more than minimum wage then. Reagan shut them down, one by one. Sadly, some of the ppl were just old and mentally unstable with no where to go. One time I was sent over to building 93, to help in that kitchen. No geriatric floor, I can tell you but lots of men. As I was serving the trey a fairly young man displayed his manhood, squishing it on the glass. Of course I screamed. He was taken away and I never went back either, to help out. I often brought treys into the patient areas. The worst I saw was a women with horrendous bedsores, as they were feeding her. Some of the worst ppl were the employees, often making the patients do tricks for them. I detested those and told them so. But, many of us collected money and cigs to share with those that helped us in the kitchens, until the state was sued by some idiot for having their brother work in the kitchen. He probably wanted it as it was not ordered. That was the end of patient help. Cannot believe the state it is in. You do know, the place is filled with asbestos. Why it remains as the cost would be prohibitive to develop that prime land, near the Long Island Sound. But, also, the Kings Park township could not sustain anymore traffic either. I believe they like leaving it a quaint hamlet. Great times growing up there.

Maybe you guys don’t know NYC but that hospital is in the Bronx right near Westchester County. It’s not in the “middle of NYC” it’s on the northern end of the northern most borough.

Some of those shots are priceless, the stories they tell, so deep, the imagination runs wild. I had to pause on some of them because my mind was captured. great job.

I'm surprised there isn't more vandalism or graffiti, or that homeless people haven't colonized it. Was the chlorine the reason why the paint is peeled like that?

This was awesome!! Videos like this, I sit here and try to imagine the hustle and bustle of what it use to be. To know that there were so many people there working everyday. A cafeteria, people looking out of the windows while they had lunch. I wish I could have seen how it was for one day back in its hay day.

At 13:04 where it says "benztropine mesylate" on that lone pill. That is a medication to treat people with parkisons or to treat involuntary movements from some of the psychatrict drugs side effects or general invoultary movements from other disorders. I can be wrong so correct me

That looks more like a youth program than a detention center. A youth program is where they go after spending time at juvie.

My husband worked for TRW in the ballistic missile office at Norton AFB from 1984 to 1992 and then for TRW as the lead contractor for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste project in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1992 to 2001. Some of the best times of his life. Although the buildings where he worked were adequate, they were nothing like this one. Such a shame it's been destroyed.
