  • Is the Odin Lite worth the huge wait it takes to get one? Are there any concerns with the device or issues? Let's find out! Spoiler... it's fantastic... mostly.
    Some things I forgot to mention in the review:
    Overall the battery isn't the best but for most situations it's fantastic. On the lower end, you're looking at about 5-6 hours for something like PS2 depending on the brightness and other settings draining your battery. Dreamcast/N64 or other midrange emulation gives you a good amount of battery life ranging from about 7-12 hours and with lower-end emulation even better. Any Odin is a good Odin in my opinion. To those waiting for their units still, I hope you all receive your units soon!

    I genuinely hope this device will be the value king for a good while to come so everyone can enjoy this absolute gem of a handheld. The battery issues aren't as bad as you might think all things considered. Really wishing they'd catch up on shipping these out sooner rather than later! If you have any questions feel free to let me know and I'll try my best to answer your Odin Lite questions. Have a great weekend everyone!

    The shipping times are getting much better . I waited 3 months but now they are getting the waiting time down to a month or less and the 6gb ram 128gb storage lite model I got was well worth the wait. It is the best emulation handheld I’ve ever used for the price. It’s as good or better than some of the far more expensive ones. From what I’ve seen the Lite models with 6 and 8gb ram are very close in performance to the pro model. The pro does duel boot Linux and windows and the snapdragon chip in it is more optimized in some cases but not many.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      There's simply nothing that can come close with this performance you get for your dollar, agreed. Glad to hear you like it! How do you find the recessed joysticks and ergonomics?

    • @matthewsmith2506
      @matthewsmith2506 Před rokem

      @@KeiRetroGaming It feels great in your hands but the analog sticks are a little to small. As I said in my other comment , you can turn down the sensitivity on the right analog stick when your play games that you need more control and it helps a lot. I’ve played Halo on Xbox game pass that way and it really does make things easier. That said your still better off using a Xbox controller on FPS games because it’s just what we are use to . I do think you can get a lot better over time with the analog sticks on the console. Other than that it’s a fantastic feeling and performing handheld console. If I had bought this first I don’t think I would have bought my Switch Lite. Nintendo really needs to open the Switch up for cloud gaming on other streaming services.

  • @matthewsmith2506
    @matthewsmith2506 Před rokem +2

    Hint ...... when streaming turn the response time down on the right analog stick and it will perform a lot better in games that need more control.

      The joystick sensitivity? I'll go try that out, thanks! Not sure if I tried that when I filmed this video but it sure plays a big part in making it usable in games like that. If that works I can probably learn to adjust to these recessed joysticks eventually... Still not used to them.

    Of course there will be new devices, but betting not with the combo here for the price. 16X9 display 6", crazy efficient 6nm chipset, actually faster overall than the 845, About $265 delivered right now. Betting this device will remain the best overall for a while. Plus the V3 display on these now is very similar to the V1 that was highly reviewed.

    Nice review. That said I do want to point out that the sticks are indeed not optimal, but they're not as bad as you make them out to be. Also, glad the speaker issue was just a one time fluke.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      Different people might enjoy them and they're definitely usable but I find them pretty tough to use. I think they might also just be extremely sensitive causing the big movement jumps in a lot of games. Controllers can be hit or miss depending on the person and I'm glad to hear they're working decently for you. The speaker thing was terrifying...

      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem +1

      Framerate is locked to 30 with 60 being "unsupported on this device". With high resolution selected on ultra settings it maintains 30fps.. the biggest limitation here is being locked to 30 and not being able to push "ultra resolution" as that shows up as unsupported as well.

    How does your shell look/feel at this point? I’m seeing a lot of people reporting that their transparent shells are developing cracks in various areas like near the ports. Obviously you haven’t had it the 1-3 months that they have since their hairline cracks appeared. I don’t know if it is from the device heat during long gaming sessions or what it could be but it is worrying…

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      I looked really close the other day for cracks and I didn't see anything. The lite seems to stay under 45c so the heat won't do much to it. That's a very big concern of mine with the unit so I'll update the community if I have that happen to my unit. The shell so far feels high quality and looks great so I hope cracking doesn't become a widespread issue.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem +4

      I'd grab the Lite or the Base model personally. The Pro's only "pro" is running windows and that seems hit or miss with what you can actually play on it. The Lite also has the smallest queue so far at the moment. I've never used more than 4gb ram on any Android device I've used under any situation so I don't really see a benefit to 8gb ram on the pro specifically for Android. The base is solid if you want better driver support but the Lite is also a great way to go if you want it earlier. I've never noticed any visual glitches or issues so far with emulation on the Lite.

    With the incoming Retroid Pocket 3+ I can't tell if the Ayn Odin is still the recomended value king. Do you have a recommendation? I know the Ayn Odin will be more powerful but what about the ergnomics and is the price to value still in favour of the Odin?

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      The Odin still has far better ergonomics than the RP3/3+ and but it's not easier to pocket. If you want GC and the odd PS2 title then go for the Odin. If you want something easy to carry around, excellent screen and DC/N64 and under then grab the RP3+. The Odin is great but I haven't used mine much since getting my RP3, I mostly value portability and a good screen in a device (RP3 wins in both areas). The Odin has a good screen but the RP3 looks more saturated and bright. Even with the ergonomics better on the Odin I'm more happier with the RP3 overall as a package.

    • @NyctNyct
      @NyctNyct Před rokem

      @@KeiRetroGaming Thanks for the input! The one thing I couldn't tell was which one has a better screen. I'll likely get the RP3+ given the screen and portability advantage. I have a Steam Deck and I'll just use it for the heavier and harder to emulate games.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      I'd say the RP3+ has a better screen overall. The Odin is good but the panel isn't as saturated nor as bright as the one on the RP3+, portability sounds like it's important to you so that's what I'd recommend.

    • @NyctNyct
      @NyctNyct Před rokem

      @@KeiRetroGaming just wondering do you ever miss the pixel density on the Odin and when it comes to carrying the RP3 is just putting it in your pocket fine? Does it causes scratches, do you need a screen protector or case?
      Thanks again for all the input!

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      I don't notice any difference in pixel density on my day to day usage, the RP3 screen has great pixel density. It fits well in pockets but I would recommend a screen protector as they're only $5 just in case something accidentally scratches the screen. I always buy a case but I keep them stored in it until I'm using it, that's just a personal choice though.

    The biggest with this device bar none is the shipping issues. I know this is a new company, but at this point, the wait time for this device and the odin pro/base is laughable and inexcusable. I probably wouldn't feel so strongly about it if AYN didn't decide to put the Loki up for pre-order while struggling to keep up with the demand of their current products.

    How can you say its fantastic if the joysticks are bad, thats a key function of the device. Also as someone who is buying this device only for moonlight.. I am a bit concerned with your findings so far, can you provide a follow up.

    • @KeiRetroGaming
      @KeiRetroGaming  Před rokem

      The hardware itself is solid and I've seen many people mod the joysticks. Gulikit is releasing a Hall Sensor upgrade for the switch sticks soon and those are drop in replacements for the device (they've been delayed a couple months though). As it sits the joysticks are pretty odd for AAA games and will occasionally jump even if the latency doesn't spike.
      I'll definitely do a follow up video if I manage to fix the joysticks or random latency spikes. I was actually gonna take a look at the network problem today on the lite and see what I can adjust. The joysticks being recessed are a personal thing I dislike but I have a friend who loves them so you might not find them as bad, you can also get vita stick caps to give you a bit more height to them if you want taller sticks. Hope that helps a bit.
