    - Yes, that's a fan. You can change the fan settings in the notification tray.
    - You can overclock in the notification tray as well.
    - This device is strong enough to play GameCube, Wii, and PS2 emulators. (And very small bit of Nintendo Switch, ex Sonic Mania at 60fps)

      @@edogawakonan8930 Some of them aren't bad. For example, the Powkiddy devices are generally good. If you put a community firmware on them, they get much better performance. The V90 handles all handhelds GBA and older perfectly, and just about anything at or before 4th generation for under $50. The only real complaint I have is the plastic sucks. I'd rather pay an extra $10. Their more premium handhelds have better build quality and performance.
      Even with the device in this video, the weakest part is probably the joycon sticks, but that's not a huge problem because they are very cheap and easy to replace. The whole housing can be replaced and only require a single ribbon cable. They go for under $5 on average if you're willing to wait on shipping.

    A few points you missed that are touched on in WULFF DEN's review.
    1. The Console features a few different Performance modes including a High Performance which will Over Clock the Console and really push the fan (Yes that is a fan for active cooling)
    2. The Odin has a GUI built for it that you can enable which looks quite practical and very clean
    3. The sticks use magnetic positioning to register their movement which does not lend its self to drift issues since it isn't based on contact/rubbing the way the switch is.
    4. They are pushing OTA updates pretty frequently (I believe they have had 2 or 3 since launch.)
    I love you guys over at LTT and especially Anthony but I do feel like they should have been more thorough with this review. Not sure if there were limits put on them as far as what they could or couldn't do in regards to opening the console but I think that something like this really does deserve a deeper dive in the future and you should have gone ahead and popped it open, as well as spent a bit more time digging through the settings to understand exactly what you are looking at. No hate, just some constructive critique for the future.

    The reason there's two HDMI outputs on the dock is that the Lite model doesn't support video output over USB C. There's a mini HDMI port next to the microSD card slot under the cover at the top of the device, and you use a jumper cable to go from the Odin's mini HDMI output to the micro HDMI input at the top of the dock.
    If you're serious about using the Odin docked, I would at least get the Base model to avoid having to use the HDMI jumper. Mini HDMI and micro HDMI ports are not very durable, so if you're using the Lite model docked be very careful when you're unplugging/plugging in the cable.

    Another great video from ANTHONY, as an older guy I enjoy seeing these videos as I enjoy retro gaming, even more so for the commute to / from work. as soon as I saw the doc I was sold on this. Being able to throw in a large SSD, network port, multiple USB 3 ports and HDMI Ports is a nice touch. I agree that trying to map a non N64 Controller for n64 emulation ca be a pain in the butt. would be interesting to see if this doc could output to multiple screens using the two HDMI ports, output to two different screens or a HDMI capture card. (not sure why you would want to do that but would be interesting to see in any case) I am. sure there would be a performance hit
    Being able to use this in combination with the doc as a inexpensive Plex media server or NAS wouldn't be out of the question.
    I've been using a GPH Canoo for years and I've been looking to replace it with another inexpensive device but can emulate more systems then I currently can.
    Thanks again Anthony, keep these retro videos coming, I found your video on Composite/Component/Scart converters helpful in making my selection as putting in a dedicated HDMI mod in to each of my retro systems would be costly (But worth it). Maybe you can do a review on ODE mods for retro systems. ODE conversions are a great way to keep a system with a failed optical drive operational and out of a landfill.

It would be much easier to have a SATA to USB enclosure that costs $10 (and that doesn't need screws, is easier to replace and can be used with all compatible devices) than to travel with that kind of full featured dedicated dock of that shape.

    Edit: Looks like purple USB-A plugs don’t exist as a standard plug (or port) color. They’re therefore used proprietarily by manufacturers, often being the equivalent to a Teal USB-A (3.1) plug speed wise, and may be able to handle additional amperage, especially in the case of HUAWEI SuperCharge compatible plugs.

      @@Sevent77 I think you are missing the point, your poco X3 may be faster, but it won't be able to sustain that performance for longer as it doesn't have any cooling.
      This device can sustain it's performance for longer, and with it's built-in overclocking, it can perform closer to 855-865 at expense of battery.
      Running 845 has some pros as well, windows and Linux support this chip, so you can install those OS as well

    • @Sevent77
      @Sevent77 Před 2 lety

      @@thelookofdisapproval8234 And I think you're overestimated what this 845 oc can do, for one the 845 GPU runs at 787 while 860 runs at 750 so it is slightly faster but the 860 has more computing units not to mention other specs that make the 860 superior.
      And while true that my X3 will thermal throttle that's not a big issue as both devices will power throttle sooner since both CPU and GPU are on the same chip
      So the only time when you'll see the boosted GPU speed is if the CPU runs at less than 20%, anything higher and the GPU will be starved for power and forced to dowclock.
      845 is in that weird spot where it has barely enough power to run some PS2, GC games but far too much power to run everything else, so that oc and active cooling aren't fully taken advantage of IMHO.

    • @laurencefraser
      @laurencefraser Před 2 lety +1

      Apple has awful autonomy and repairability, but is often very capable and there are a lot of useful productivity tools where the android equivalent just doesn't measure up (or doesn't exist), to my understanding. Also, if you want anything to be private or secure ever? Android is not the way to go. Much as Apple also uses it as an excuse to 'justify' a lot of their anti-consumer nonsense, they do actually put a fair bit of effort into the whole 'user privacy' thing.
      Don't get me wrong, Apple's a terrible company and I refuse to give them money ever... but the only reason I don't put Android stuff in the same 'do not even think about buying' pile is the lack of available alternatives (like, custom building a Raspberry Pi based system is looking to be the most viable alternative at this point, which is... um... well, it says Something about the current state of the market...)

    • @sovo1212
      @sovo1212 Před 2 lety

      @@laurencefraser To be fair, it's not like Android phones give you that autonomy either. Even if you manage to get a "de-googled" device, you still can't install whatever you want on them. There's no such thing as a BIOS for ARM devices. Also Linux is still pretty limited for mobile, and you'd still need to use a few popular (yet defective/invasive) apps if you want to stay in touch with some muggles (i.e. Whatsapp).

      @@nebulous962 the actual throughput in sequential is actually faster on USB 3.1, but it's much much slower for hard drives because of the latency of the controller.
      USB is only faster when copying large files, when a program requests to read a file there's a much larger delay though before it starts reading it so it's actually slower when you're booting off of it, like 100 times slower.

    While I am not so enamoured with the hand-held as I don't generally game on the move, that dock looks like a great way to turn an old phone into a retro powerhouse. Since it connects via USB C it should be compatible with any relatively modern handsets.
