  • Here we have a very common fault on the BMW 3 series (E91) & 5 series (E61) - The remote controls for the central locking not working although batteries & fuses are all ok, no fault codes are logged in the car - The fault is usually either the remote receiver or 'Diversity module' as its commonly called which is fitted under the rear spoiler, is either water damaged or in most cases the wiring loom in the rear hatch has got some broken wires at the hinge point - Here we show a common fault area & repair. this may also be common on other BMW estate cars / hatch backs which have the diversity module fitted here.
    Hopefully you find this video interesting & helpful if you have this fault & will save you some time & money if you need this fix! If you do then please click the 'Like' & 'Subscribe' buttons!

    Thanks for your clear explanation about the wire harness. I had only 5V on 3rd wire, but no 12V on 1st and 4th wire. All the fuses were good. I traced it back to one broken wire inside the rubber harness area (top right corner as you look from rear of car). I soldered an extra inch of wire to connect it up again (give it some slack😊). Remote locking/unlocking all working again. No more alarm going off everytime I unlock to get into the car! Yay! Cheers. 👍

    Justin. Watched this other night. What a mission on the 5 tourer. I’ve an out of date Peugeot 206 on a very low mileage in the trade with faulty central locking. Not usually a problem. Just sell it as to lock manually car under £1500 car. But this one was unlocked boot as arrived but on latch. Now it’s a locked boot. No external boot key lock and now locked shut. So Opened manually and forced to stay open by removing bar on electrical lock. As it’s failed central locking this is a screwed up car. Either locked shut boot or boot unlocked off latch !!!! What with the car being uneconomical to throw more money at. The car doesnt lock. Or unlock. This isn’t a module this time but a failed CLocking system. Sold a lot cars over the years but one like this have not. Loose on the latch open boot or locked shit. Google confirms same. System down electrical lock boot no boot key ‘you’re in trouble’

    Thank you for a great video! On my 2009 E61 the remotes (keys) stopped working, so I had a new set made. That did not solve the issue and I took apart the "diversity module" and found no obvious damage. I'm dreading this possibility - that the cable is cut somewhere under the lining. On the plus side, my lining is half-off anyway because I was search for the reason of flooding through the sunroof (stupidly enough, the rear outlet tubes were clogged and water just overflowed the inner rails and flowed over the roof liner into the battery compartment, and, what is worse, the spare wheel space which is crammed with computers and relays - yay!)... Anyhow, I'll give the cables a good look and hopefully I can reconnect the broken ones using some scraps...

    Did this on my e61 myself two months ago, caused much consternation! However it resolved the remote locking issue but the HRW still not working even through I soldered that cable too.... I live live without the hrw for now, it's nearly summer here in the UK! This is a stupidly complex design again from bmw, unnecessarily complex.

      Hi, as far as I could see the only fuse was the one in the video, have you checked the remote for a signal?, these can also be faulty - they have soldered on batteries & button faults, if not the remote then the diversity unit itself can be faulty (usually water ingress)?.. or more wiring faults further into the roof panel as in the video.. good luck & thanks for watching the video!

    I've been watching various videos as my F10 5 series keeps having issues with the key (I think it's a leak as it stops working after a car wash or rain)... But I'm curious, how does this even happen? Seems odd for so many wires to randomly break.

    • @JC-ECUConnection
      @JC-ECUConnection  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi & thanks for watching, I’m not sure about the faults with F-series, the fault in this video is relevant for E-series - maybe it had the same layout & issues.. the main problem with the E-series is that the repeated opening & closing of the boot cause the wiring to flex & gradually work harden & then break, also the pvc on the cable degrades making things worse & allowing water ingress.. good luck finding your fault & feel free to post here what you find!

    Hi,
    I've the same problem and more. I had some broken wires. I repaired them and bought used module cuz mine was with severe water damage. Now the remote works, but only if it is in very close proximity to the antenna in the spoiler.
    I've BMW E61 530d 2007. Can you suggest a way to fix it. Is it the module in your opinion?
    Thx in advance :)

    • @JC-ECUConnection
      @JC-ECUConnection  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi, it could be that the module you have purchased is faulty but I would start by testing the remote batteries, they are soldered to the circuit board & will need cutting open & soldering skills to replace..
